Mapping 'the constructive turn' in comment sections of news websites

<p>The research project critically examines the guidelines of the comments sections of the twenty largest online news outlets over the last ten years. Rather than focusing on the familiar negative comments of news consumers and their narratives, we analyze and compare the news outlets&rsquo; guidelines and how they have led in what we call &lsquo;a constructive turn&rsquo;. We propose our own theoretical framework to analyze what is encouraged and what is discouraged in news outlets&rsquo; guidelines. Results show an increasing focus on constructiveness in the guidelines of the comment sections and a shift to more positivity, rather than on deleting and filtering negative or toxic comments. Although platforms differ in their views on the role of commenting and the definition of constructiveness, the turn towards the constructive design of the commenting platform is shared among them.</p> <p>This dataset contains the commentary guidelines in the top 20 English-language online news websites of December 2020 based on research conducted by Similar Web (Source: Similar Web for Gazette). For each news publication, the current commentary guidelines were scrapped from the internet, alongside earlier versions of their guidelines. In total, three moments were used to map the guidelines: 2021, 2015 and 2010. The content was analysed through coding using Nvivo software. We applied a bottom-up approach - by creating simple codes and eventually grouping them together.&nbsp;Each set of guidelines was coded on what behaviour was <em>encouraged</em> and what was <em>discouraged</em> by the news outlet, and what kind of <em>discussion environment </em>the news outlet expects from their commenters in general (e.g. entertaining, healthy, inclusive etc.).&nbsp;</p> <p>This dataset contains coded content for the project. Following logic was used in uploading the documents:</p> <p>1 - Nvivo project file - can be opened using Nvivo for Mac - contains all information (files, codes, etc.)</p> <p>We also upload more user-friendly data (the following documents are uploaded in MS Word format):</p> <p>2 - Codebook (provides the logical structure of coding applied + number of codes for each category)<br> 3 - Code excerpts for discouraged elements found in the content<br> 4 - Code excerpts for encouraged elements found in the content<br> 5 - Code excerpts for discussion environment elements found in the content</p> <p>Disclaimer: The user-generated content guidelines of news media companies are their own intellectual property and we do not own any rights to it.&nbsp;</p> <p><br> &nbsp;</p>

Online Supplement for An Arabic Version of The Visual Aesthetics of Websites Inventory (AR-VisAWI): Translation and Psychometric Properties

<p>This is the online supplement for a translation of the Visual Aesthetics of Websites Inventory into Arabic (AR-VisAWI).&nbsp;</p> <p>In the field of human-computer interaction, the concept of visual aesthetics gained popularity after researchers started to recognize its merits and effects on user experience. Yet, no proper instrument exists to assess the visual aesthetics of websites that are intended for users who speak Arabic as their native language. As such, the aim of this study was to develop and evaluate an Arabic version of the Visual Aesthetics of Websites Inventory (VisAWI, Moshagen &amp; Thielsch, 2010) and its short version (VisAWI-S, Moshagen &amp; Thielsch, 2013). For this purpose, participants were asked to evaluate a randomly assigned website with the AR-VisAWI and with different validating instruments. A final sample of 223 participants was included in the analyses.</p> <p>This online supplement includes</p> <ul> <li>a codebook describing all instructions and items</li> <li>raw data (anonymised) and analysis script (Note: The raw data contains only the information of persons who have agreed to be included in the analysis. Some demographic information was deleted to ensure anonymity.)</li> <li>Questionnaire template and scoring instructions</li> </ul>

<p>The dataset contains user reviews and ratings of restaurants situated across 65 locations in Dublin along with other features such as cuisine, price range etc. which are as follows.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Restaurant ID</strong>: Each ID represents a restaurant which has been given a unique ID to easily identify them. Analyzing the Impact of Copying-and-Pasting Vulnerable Solidity Code Snippets from Question-and-Answer Websites

<p>This data comprises all input and output, including intermediate results for the evaluation of the tool cpg-contract-checker(CCC) and the crawled data and results for the study published under the name "Analyzing the Impact of Copying-and-Pasting Vulnerable Solidity Code Snippets from Question-and-Answer Websites".<br>We conducted a study on the impact of vulnerable code reuse from Q&amp;A websites during the development of smart contracts and provided tools uniquely fit to detect vulnerable code patterns in complete and incomplete Smart Contract code. The paper proposes a pattern-based vulnerability detection tool that is able to analyze code snippets (i.e., incomplete code) as well as full smart contracts based on the concept of code property graphs. We also propose a methodology that leverages fuzzy hashing to quickly detect code clones of vulnerable snippets among deployed smart contracts. Our results show that our vulnerability search, as well as our code clone detection, are comparable to state-of-the-art while being applicable to code snippets. The tools are used to realize a study pipeline for which the dataset and (intermediate) results are contained in this archive.</p>

Tweasel traffic collection for TrackHAR adapter work on websites (September 2024)

<p>To start creating TrackHAR adapters for trackers active on the web, we ran a traffic collection on the top 10,000 websites in Germany as per the Chrome User Experience Report (CrUX) for August 2024.</p> <p>The websites were accessed in a headless Chromium browser using Playwright from a French IP address between 2024-09-20 and 2024-09-26. <p>For T2.5 of the i-CONSENT project, an analysis was undertaken of the strategies used to effectively communicate with women on the topic of women&rsquo;s health or women&rsquo;s health research, considering aspects such as tone, format and audience interaction. A total of 42 websites, social media pages and apps were included in the analysis. The attached document presents the findings from the data generation stage of this analysis.</p>
