Data on: The role of technical characteristics in blockchain adoption: survey data from German social media network users
<p><span>Blockchain has become a hyped emerging technology that is predicted to be heavily influential in all our lives. Yet, until now, it has failed to deliver most of its advertised benefits. To tackle this problem and provide an explanation for the missing wider success, this study focuses on the role of technology features in the adoption of blockchain. Thus, this research integrates the view on technological characteristics, represented by aspects of the mindfulness concept, with the sociological aspects influencing technology adoption decisions based on the widely used unified theory of acceptance and use of technology (UTAUT). The resulting research model is evaluated using the partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) estimation approach with German social media network. The findings indicate that only high-level knowledge of distinct technology features (uniqueness) is influencing adoption decisions while the missing deeper understanding of these features hinders a careful evaluation of its benefits and meaningful use. This research expands the technology adoption literature by highlighting the role of technical characteristics and combining social, psychological and technological factors into one model. Further, it helps practitioners to understand the causes for the limited success of blockchain and advances the general knowledge on technology adoption.</span></p>
Willingness to Adopt Solar-Driven Drip Irrigation Systems: An Investigation in Ganj, Chakri
<p>To assess farmers' willingness to adopt solar-powered drip irrigation systems, a survey was administered to a sample of 141 farmers randomly selected from Union Council Ganj, Chakri, District Rawalpindi, Pakistan. The survey instrument captured data on various factors hypothesized to influence adoption decisions, including:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Socioeconomic characteristics:</strong> Age, status within the family, agriculture as a primary source of income.</li> <li><strong>Farm attributes:</strong> Number of land parcels, ownership status of land, depth of water.</li> <li><strong>Knowledge and access to technology:</strong> Knowledge of how to use solar-driven drip irrigation systems.</li> <li><strong>External influences:</strong> Demonstration effect on adoption (observing others using the system), influence of government subsidies on adoption.</li> </ul> <p>This data collection approach allows for a <strong>statistically robust</strong> analysis using a logit model to identify the key drivers influencing farmers' adoption decisions. The findings can be directly used by policymakers and agricultural extension services to develop targeted interventions promoting the widespread use of these water and energy-saving irrigation technologies.</p> <ul> <li>This Stata do-file contains the commands used to replicate the research findings presented in this paper.</li> </ul>

Exploring the role of positive direct expe-rience in adoption of energy-efficient technologies
<p>The visitors of a recently refurnished public swimming pool in a Swiss city were surveyed about their experience with new low-flow showerheads, intention to take advantage of a local utility's campaign offering low-flow showerheads for home use at a highly subsidised price, socio-psychological determinants of a decision and intention to purchase a subsidised low-flow showerhead in this context and their socio-demographic background.</p>
Disparities in pediatric patient portal adoption and feature use
<p>Objective: Disparities in adult patient portal adoption are well-documented; however, less is known about disparities in portal adoption in pediatrics. This study examines the prevalence and factors associated with patient portal activation and use of specific portal features in general pediatrics.</p> <p>Materials and Methods: We analyzed electronic health record (EHR) data from 2012-2020 in a large academic medical center that offers both parent and adolescent portals. We summarized portal activation and use of select portal features (messaging, records access and management, appointment management, visit/admissions summaries, and interactive feature use). We used logistic regression to model factors associated with patient portal activation among all patients along with feature use and frequent feature use among ever users (i.e., ≥1 portal use).</p> <p>Results: Among 52,713 unique patients, 39% had activated the patient portal, including 36% of patients aged 0-11, 41% of patients aged 12-17 and 62% of patients aged 18-21 years. Among activated accounts, ever use of specific features ranged from 28% for visit/admission summaries to 92% for records access and management. Adjusted analyses showed patients with activated accounts were more likely to be adolescents or young adults, white, female, privately insured, and less socioeconomically vulnerable. Individual feature use among ever users generally followed the same pattern.</p> <p>Conclusions: Our findings demonstrate that important disparities persist in portal adoption in pediatric populations, highlighting the need for strategies to promote equitable access to patient portals.</p>
