SIMARA: a database for key-value information extraction from full-page handwritten documents

We propose a new database for information extraction from historical handwritten documents. The corpus includes 5,393 finding aids from six different series, dating from the 18th-20th centuries. Finding aids are handwritten documents that contain metadata describing older archives. They are stored in the National Archives of France and are used by archivists to identify and find archival documents.

Each document is annotated at page-level, and contains seven fields to retrieve. The localization of each field is not available in such a way that this dataset encourages research on segmentation-free systems for information extraction.

Rapid Documentation Avifaunal Diversity of Buxa Tiger Reserve, Alipurduar, West Bengal, India

The dataset “Rapid Documentation Avifaunal Diversity of Buxa Tiger Reserve, Alipurduar, West Bengal, India” is published by Nature Mates Nature Club

Buxa Tiger Reserve is a tiger reserve and national park lies in the Alipurduar district of northern West Bengal, India, covering an area of 760 km2.

Buxa Tiger Reserve was created in 1983 as the 15th tiger reserve in India. In 1986, Buxa Wildlife Sanctuary constituted over 314.52 km2 of the reserve forests. In 1991, 54.47 km2 was added to Buxa Wildlife Sanctuary. A year later, in 1992, the Government of West Bengal declared its intentions to constitute a national park over 117.10 km2 of the Buxa Wildlife Sanctuary. State government finally declared the national park with notification No.3403-For/11B-6/95 dt. 05.12.1997.

Buxa Tiger Reserve(BTR) lies in Alipurduar district of West Bengal. Its northern boundary runs along the international border with Bhutan

It is the easternmost extension of extreme bio-diverse North-East India and represents highly endemic Indo-Malayan region. The fragile "Terai Eco-System" constitutes a part of this reserve. The Phibsoo Wildlife Sanctuary of Bhutan is contiguous to the north of BTR. Manas National Park lies on east of BTR. BTR, thus, serves as an international corridor for Asian elephant migration between India and Bhutan. To the south-west, the Chilapata Forests form an elephant corridor to the Jaldapara Wildlife Sanctuary.

The forest type of the reserve includes : Northern dry deciduous, Eastern Bhabar and Terai sal, East Himalayan moist mixed deciduous forest, Sub-Himalayan secondary wet mixed forest, Eastern sub-montane semi-evergreen forest, Northern tropical evergreen forest, East Himalayan subtropical wet hill forest, Moist sal savannah, Low alluvium, Savannah woodland.(https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Buxa_Tiger_Reserve, http://www.wildbengal.com/buxa.php).The main species constitutes trees like Sal, Champ, Gamar, Simul, Chikrasi.

The climate of the reserve is mostly humid subtropical with hot summers and cool winters. The monsoon season begins in June and lasts until September, bringing heavy rainfall to the region. (https://www.studyiq.com/articles/buxa-tiger-reserve/)

So far 352 species of trees, 133 species of shrubs, 189 species of herbs, 108 species of climbers, 144 species of orchids, 46 species of grasses,16 species of sedges, 6 species of canes and 4 species of bamboos have been reported. Buxa has a good faunal diversity. As many as 68 species of mammals, 41 species of reptiles, more than 246 species of birds, 4 species of Amphibians along with 103 species of fishes and around 500 species of insects have been recorded.(https://ntca.gov.in/assets/uploads/briefnote/buxa.pdf)

This dataset enlists all the birds identified during a biodiversity survey conducted in the year 2016

Species or genus-level identifications have been made for every species. There are bird species total, with records of them in different families and different orders.

Resource contacts

Name: Arjan Basu Roy

Position: Secretary

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: basuroyarjan@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9872-3562

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/

Name: Tarak Samanta

Position: Research Associate

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: taraksamanta995@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6809-0549

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/

Name: Rishin Basu Roy

Position: Researcher

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: wildrishin@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9638-818X

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/

Name: Nivedita Sengupta

Position: Intern

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: niveditasngpta.ns@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1085-7385

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/

Name: Lina Chatterjee

Position: Research Associate

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: lina.linachatterjee@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5626-5046

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/

Name: Vijay Barve

Position: Research Advisor

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: vijay.barve@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4852-2567

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/

Rapid Documentation Of Avifaunal Diversity of Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary, Darjeeling, West Bengal, India

The dataset “Rapid Documentation Of Avifaunal Diversity of Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary, Darjeeling, West Bengal, India” is published by Nature Mates Nature Club

The establishment of the Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary took place in 1915 within the Darjeeling District of West Bengal, India. The term 'Senchal' denotes 'The Hill of Damp and Mist', therefore leading to the designation of the refuge as the "Senchal Wildlife Sanctuary". The aforementioned wildlife sanctuary holds the distinction of being among the oldest in India, encompassing a total land area of 38.6 square kilometers.

The central region of the Sanctuary maintains a consistently low temperature throughout all seasons. The months of July and August are characterized by the occurrence of monsoon in the region. The central region of the sanctuary experiences an annual precipitation range of 2500 - 3000 mm. A significant volume of water is discharged through the fountains and slopes originating from the elevated region of the Sanctuary, ultimately flowing into the Teesta River in the east and the Balason River in the west. The soil is unconsolidated, young, and of the Mountainous loamy type, with some sands mixed in on the upper part. The Kurseong region is characterized by a soil composition consisting primarily of alluvial mixtures, which provides favorable conditions for the establishment and development of many tree species.

The sanctuary comprises a harmonious integration of both natural and man-made woodlands, seamlessly intertwined

Barking deer, Wild boar, Himalayan black bear, Indian leopard, Jungle cat, Rhesus macaque, Assamese macaque, Himalayan flying squirrel are some of the mammalian species that inhabit the area along with many others.

In addition, this sanctuary exhibits a significant abundance of avian species.

The dataset is a complete compilation of bird species identified during a biodiversity study conducted in the year 2017.

All species have been classified and identified at either the species or genus taxonomic level. There is a diverse assemblage of 109 avian species, with each species being systematically classified within various 44 families and 12 orders.

Resource Contacts

Name: Arjan Basu Roy

Position: Secretary

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: basuroyarjan@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0001-9872-3562

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/

Name: Tarak Samanta

Position: Research Associate

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: taraksamanta995@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0001-6809-0549

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/

Name: Rishin Basu Roy

Position: Researcher

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: wildrishin@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0002-9638-818X

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/

Name: Nivedita Sengupta

Position: Intern

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: niveditasngpta.ns@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0003-1085-7385

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/

Name: Lina Chatterjee

Position: Research Associate

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: lina.linachatterjee@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0002-5626-5046

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/

Name: Vijay Barve

Position: Research Advisor

Organization: Nature Mates-Nature Club

Address: 6/7 Bijoygarh Kolkata-700032

Email: vijay.barve@gmail.com

Orcid : https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4852-2567

Home page: http://www.naturematesindia.org/
