<p>Here we provide data about living benthic foraminifera related to the manuscript "Influence of modern environmental gradients on foraminiferal faunas in the inner Kongsfjorden (Svalbard)" published in Marine Micropaleontology.</p> <p>This excel file contains four sheets:</p> <ol> <li><strong>readme</strong></li> <li><strong>KING18_station_infos:</strong> includes sampling coordinates and related information.</li> <li><strong>KING18_abundances10cm3_0-1cm:</strong> includes living benthic foraminiferal absolute abundances (individuals 10cm<sup>-3</sup>) in the 0-0.5 and 0.5-1 cm sediment layers and four different size fractions (i.e., 63-100, 100-125, 125-150 and >150 µm).</li> <li><strong>KING18_abundances10cm3_0-5cm: </strong>includes living benthic foraminiferal absolute abundances (individuals 10cm<sup>-3</sup>) in seven sediment layers (i.e., 0-0.5, 0.5-1, 1-1.5, 1.5-2, 2-3, 3-4 and 4-5 cm) and the >150 µm size fraction.</li> </ol>

"Blacksmiths of Modernity" mosaic in Kyiv, Ukraine. One of the brightest Kyiv mosaics is dedicated to nuclear physicists - the main rock stars of Soviet science. On the panel of Galina Zubchenko and Grigory Prishedko on the facade of the entrance of the Institute for Nuclear Research, they resemble new Prometheans who forge the future by splitting the nucleus and creating a "peaceful atom". The brightness and dynamics of the composition are really impressive! The theme of scientific progress was one of the most popular in monumental mosaics and a favorite among the authors of this work - by the way, a married couple. The brilliance of their compositions is not without reason reminiscent of distant lands: Grigory Prishedko studied in Mexico for two whole years with Diego Rivera, the wife of Frida Kahlo. <p>Postcolonial Interruptions, Unauthorised Modernities is a ground-breaking work that revaluates the cultural and political understandings of the world today from the perspective of the south. Largely located in the Mediterranean, and in understandings of a ‘southern question’ that extends beyond local and national confines, the arguments and perspectives proposed seek to explore the historical formation and political configurations of a multiple modernity. <br> <br> Drawing upon the interdisciplinary lines of thought developed within cultural and postcolonial studies, the work develops a concept of heritage beyond the concerns and obsessions of the Anglo-American world. It offers a counter-hegemony construction of the figure of the migrant and ‘other’ as a disruptive force in the construction of the idea of the West. It proposes a rethinking of the geo-political economies of knowledge and power, lived and viewed from elsewhere. This accessibility written book should be of interest to anyone interested in the construction of modernity and the future of postcolonial studies.</p>

Data from: The paleobiologic implications of modern nonmarine ecological gradients
<p>In modern nonmarine settings, previous studies have demonstrated the importance of elevation-correlated ecological gradients, but such studies tend to focus on relatively small areas and only one higher taxon. Here, we analyze GBIF occurrence records from a wide variety of taxa across the southeastern United States coastal plain. Many taxa display ecological gradients (gradients in proportional or relative abundance) correlated with elevation, distance to the coast, and latitude. These gradients tend to be steepest within a few tens of kilometers near the coast and at elevations less than 25 m. Some taxa, notably terrestrial mammals, do not display gradients correlated with elevation and distance to the coast. The small sample sizes of these groups and their heterogeneous sampling raise concerns about whether sufficient data exists. Coupled with previous studies of these ecological gradients, their common presence over distances of tens to hundreds of kilometers and elevations of tens to hundreds of meters suggests they are likely important in the nonmarine fossil record. Because elevation and distance to the coast change predictably with cycles of accommodation and sediment flux, these ecological gradients are predicted to occur in the nonmarine stratigraphic record, especially through intervals that record transgression or regression. Such gradients will affect the local composition of species associations and occurrences, even in the absence of regional species origination, immigration, and extinction and in the absence of regional change in the structure of ecological gradients. The ordination of taxon counts in stratigraphically limited samples has great potential for establishing their existence.</p>

3D cranial landmark coordinates from the Athens Collection. A modern Greek population reference dataset for testing 3D-ID software
<p>The present dataset comprises the landmark coordinates of 158 intact crania (80 males and 78 females) of adult individuals from the Athens Collection. The 3D coordinates of up to 34 landmarks have been extracted from high quality textured 3D models produced with photogrammetry. The dataset aims to evaluate the correct classification performance of 3D-ID software. Hence, the dataset contains the landmark 3D coordinates both in Meshlab's PickedPoints files (.pp) but also in 3D-ID's input text format (.3did). The dataset is accompanied by certain GNU Octave scripts and functions used for data conversion and integrity check. For more details see the Dataset Description pdf.</p>

Modeling Sulfate Attack in Modern Concrete for Building Sustainable and Resilient Infrastructure
<p>Corresponding data set for Tran-SET Project No. 17CTAM01. Abstract of the final report is stated below for reference:</p> <p>"External sulfate attack is a complex phenomenon and is manifested in the form of large expansion, cracking, and spalling depending on the exposure solution and material constituent properties. Several models were developed in the past to demonstrate sulfate attack mechanisms that account for the diffusion of sulfate ions into the porous concrete and the successive deformation triggered by the chemical reaction and precipitation of expansive agents. However, none of these models accounts for the effect of the migration of solvent water from the low solute concentration solution to high solute concentration solution driven by the osmotic pressure. Osmotic pressure is believed to cause spalling and cracking of concrete substrates coated with semipermeable membrane that prohibits diffusion of ions from the surroundings into the porous body. In order to determine the effect of osmotic pressure on the deformation of concrete exposed to sulfate solution, a coupled poromechanical model has been developed. Sensitivity analysis has been performed to investigate the effect of material constituent properties and exposure solution on the osmotic pressure induced damage propensity of concrete. It has been found that concrete surface can exhibit high instantaneous tensile stress developed by the gradient in the salt concentration between the pore solution and external surroundings."</p>

<p>The forms collect information on the pieces included in the Project “Glass Imitations of Stones in the Roman Period and their Reinterpretation in the Modern Era” (PID2020-117299GB-I00), acronym: LAPISVITRUMQUE, funded by MCIN/ AEI/10.13039/501100011033. There are three forms: one for glass (Tabla_vidrio), another for precious and ornamental stones (Tabla_piedras), and a third that relates the two (Tabla_correlacion). The first two include data related to the pieces themselves and the third seeks to compare glass and stone through various filters by set, group, class, colour and quality. This form is constantly being updated as new information is added. In the case of glass, it can be used to determine the shapes imitated in their decoration and the type of ornamental rocks or precious stones they imitate. And in the case of stone productions (<em>instrumenta domestica</em>, personal ornaments, etc.) to contrast their appearance or not in glass.</p>
