DEEP Lakes Grant Program water quality assessment, CT, 1937-2006

“The water quality of lakes in Connecticut has historically been assessed by the CTDEP using best professional judgment as a follow-up to citizen complaints. The CTDEP possesses a number of lake technical studies (dredging feasibility studies, drainage studies, and diagnostic/feasibility studies) that were completed by local municipalities and lake associations using funding provided through the Connecticut Lakes Grant Program. Many of these reports contain data regarding lake water quality and limnological and watershed characteristics."

Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MIDEQ), MI: Water Color Study, 2006

The MI-DEQ initiated this study to test the nutrient criteria model developed in the state in which water color was one of the predictor variables of lake phosphorus. Great Lakes Environmental Center (GLEC) collected samples from 24 lakes/reservoirs; MDEQ collected samples on 39 lakes; and GLEC analyzed all data in their lab.

Little Traverse Bay Band of Odawa Indians (LTBB) water quality monitoring program, MI USA, 2000-2011

The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians (LTBB) is conducting a baseline assessment in selected water bodies within and adjacent to the 1855 historically delineated reservation boundaries. This baseline study began in Y2000, and LTBB began to acquire consistent data in 2001, and will continue until a sufficient amount of data is collected to assess current water quality conditions. Ten lakes have been chosen to be part of this program for sampling. Physical and chemical parameters measured in all selected water bodies are: dissolved oxygen, conductivity, temperature, turbidity, water depth, pH, nitrate/nitrite, total phosphorus, total kjeldahl nitrogen, and chloride. Parameters measured in the lakes only consist of chlorophyll a and water clarity.

Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council Comprehensive Water Quality Monitoring Program lake chemistry, MI, intermittent years between 1987-2010

The Comprehensive Water Quality Monitoring Program was launched by Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council in 1987, with subsequent field data collection in 1992, 1995, 1998, 2001, 2004, 2007, and 2010. Initially, physical and chemical data were collected on 10 lakes but the program has progressively expanded and, as of the 2010 field season, 143 samples were collected from 60 sites on 55 lakes and streams. Typically, data for nine parameters (temperature, dissolved oxygen, pH, conductivity, clarity, total phosphorous, total nitrogen, nitrate-nitrogen, and chloride) are collected at the surface, middle and bottom of the water column in each water body. This highly-accurate water quality data for lakes and rivers in Northern Michigan, collected consistently for the last 20+ years, have been compiled into a single database that can be used by staff to evaluate aquatic ecosystem health, examine trends within or among water bodies, and identify specific problems.
