Importance of Data Science in Decision Making

Data Science is a rapidly growing field of study that not only focuses on understanding the data but also, on predicting the future outcomes by the method of data gathering and data analysis. Usingstatistical methods to find patterns in data, we can turn an outcome in our favor by adjusting our actions and responses accordingly. In this paper, we investigate how decision-making process is leveraged with the help of data science in various fields and the ethical issues involved for the same. We also discuss how data science can foster better controlling, administering, regulating, directing and executing aspects of decision-making. This paper would ultimately serve as a reference material for individuals and organizations willing to understand the importance of data science in decision making process.

D4.6- Validation of citizen science data

This document is a deliverable of the SCORE project, funded under the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 101003534. The aim of this document is to outline the dual objectives essential to the success of the SCORE project: first, providing an overview of the methods and practices for validating citizen science data, and second, integrating these validated datawith institutional monitoring systems. Validating citizen science data is crucial to ensuring the accuracy and reliability of information collected by non-professional volunteers. Once validated, this data can be integrated into institutional systems to enhance environmental monitoring, particularly in urban coastal areas where detailed and localised data can significantly improve monitoring capabilities and decision-making.

Open Access Spiel "Skill It - Unlock Your Science!"

SKILL IT!

Alle hier publizierten Materialien unterliegen der Creative Common-Lizenz CC-By 4.0 Namensnennung 4.0 International

Data from: Bringing ecology blogging into the scientific fold: measuring reach and impact of science community blogs
The popularity of science blogging has increased in recent years, but the number of academic scientists who maintain regular blogs is limited. The role and impact of science communication blogs aimed at general audiences is often discussed, but the value of science community blogs aimed at the academic community has largely been overlooked. Here, we focus on our own experiences as bloggers to argue that science community blogs are valuable to the academic community. We use data from our own blogs (n = 7) to illustrate some of the factors influencing reach and impact of science community blogs. We then discuss the value of blogs as a standalone medium, where rapid communication of scholarly ideas, opinions, and short observational notes can enhance scientific discourse, and discussion of personal experiences can provide indirect mentorship for junior researchers and scientists from underrepresented groups. Finally, we argue that science community blogs can be treated as a primary source and provide some key points to consider when citing blogs in peer-reviewed literature.
