This dataset contains dissolved organic carbon concentrations from surface water samples collected at 100 urban stream and canal locations in the greater Miami, Florida metropolitan area. This dataset describes a small-scale study of the distribution and sizes of webs in Dean Creek Marsh, located on the southern end of Sapelo Island, Georgia, USA. The study contained three components: A transect survey to understand the spatial distribution and density of spider webs among different vegetation types, a targeted search for webs to understand the population of webs in the region, and a sticky-trap study to investigate the prey abundance among vegetation types in the marsh.

Harmful Algal Bloom Reports for 405 lakes in New York State (USA), with antecedent weather conditions and trophic status for each lake.

Cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cyanoHABs) are often associated with warm water temperatures and low wind speeds, but quantifying thresholds in meteorological conditions is challenging. In an attempt to better quantify antecedent weather conditions associated with cyanoHABs, we assembled a dataset to include cyanoHAB reports from individual lakes, as well as air temperature and wind speed data on the day of, and 5 days preceding each cyanoHAB report. CyanoHAB reports were provided by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) for 405 lakes for an 11 year period spanning 2012-2023. We used 4km gridded surface meteorological data to calculate antecedent weather conditions leading up to each report. The resulting dataset includes 4,208 cyanoHAB reports from lakes of varying trophic states in New York State (USA). We calculated anomalies in daily wind speed and air temperature for each report and the five days preceding it. The dataset is formatted as a wide table, with individual cyanoHAB reports listed by row. Each row provides report-specific data to include the date, site, trophic state of the lake, and the cyanoHAB report status. Each row contains weather data specific to the date and location of each report, with weather variables calculated from the closest grid point for each lake site. We provide 36 columns containing weather variables for each report to include air temperature and wind speed for the day of the HAB as well as the 5 days preceding it. We also provide a 24-year mean value for the day of the year (DoY), as well as the calculated difference between the day in question and the 24-year mean for the DoY.

Valuing multiple ecosystem services under contrasting land use scenarios, Grand River Basin (Iowa and Missouri, USA), 2016

This dataset includes spatial and tabular data used to evaluate ecosystem service outcomes under three land-use scenarios (baseline, buffered, and productivity-based) within the Grand River Basin, spanning southwest Iowa and northwest Missouri. The dataset comprises geospatial layers and model inputs for land cover, soil characteristics, and hydrology, as well as outputs from the InVEST modeling suite for nutrient delivery ratio, sediment delivery ratio, carbon storage, and pollinator abundance. It also includes financial data used to estimate the net present value of bioenergy grassland systems, including enterprise budgets and biomass yield assumptions. The scenarios simulate the conversion of cropland to native grassland either adjacent to streams (Buffered) or on low-productivity soils (Productivity-based), and the dataset captures associated changes in land cover, ecosystem service indicators, and potential biomass production. This dataset is intended to support further research and planning related to landscape-scale conservation, ecosystem service valuation, and bioenergy development in agricultural regions.

Methane ebullition and diffusion rates, turbulence, water temperature, and water depth data from Falling Creek Reservoir (Virginia, USA) in the ice-free period during 2016-2019

This dataset includes weekly and subweekly methane ebullition and diffusion rates collected from March through November in 2016, 2017, 2018, and 2019 in Falling Creek Reservoir (FCR), a drinking water reservoir owned and managed by the Western Virginia Water Authority and located in Vinton, Virginia, USA. In 2016, ebullition rates were measured at four near-shore sites along a longitudinal gradient in FCR that included four replicate locations within each site, for a total of 16 sites in the reservoir. In 2017, methane emission rates and five different potential environmental driver variables (water temperature, wind speed, pressure, turbulence, primary production) were measured at five longitudinal transects that included four replicate sites per transect, for a total of 20 sites in the reservoir. In 2018, ebullition was measured at the same five longitudinal transects but with two replicate sites per transect, for a total of 10 sites. In 2019, ebullition was only measured at the furthest upstream transect monitored in 2017-2018, with four replicate sites within that transect. The dataset consists of four tables: 1) weekly methane ebullition and diffusion rates and the water depths at each of the 24 unique monitoring sites; 2) 10-minute resolution sediment-water interface and surface water temperatures from 16 sites in 2017; 3) weekly sediment-water interface and surface turbulence at the four transects in 2017; and 4) geographical coordinates of each of the 24 sites in the reservoir.

High Frequency Meteorological, Drift-Corrected Dissolved Oxygen, and Thermistor Temperature Data - Lake Sunapee Buoy, NH, USA, 2007 – 2013

The Lake Sunapee Protective Association (Sunapee, New Hampshire, USA) has been operating an instrumented buoy on Lake Sunapee (maximum depth 33.7 meters) beginning on 27 August 2007. The environmental sensors on the buoy from 2007 - 2013 provided information on weather conditions, lake thermal structure, and oxygen dynamics, and their data can be used to calculate physical and biological variables such as buoyancy frequency, thermocline depth, thermal stability, and lake metabolism. The sensors were programmed to collect environmental data every 10 minutes. The buoy collected meteorological data 1.7 meters above the lake surface, including wind speed and direction (Vaisala WXT52 anemometer), air temperature and humidity (Vaisala HMP50), and photosynthetically active radiation (PAR Li-Cor). The water temperature sensors (TempLine thermistors from Apprise Technology in 2007-2010; NexSens T-node sensors 2010-2013) were situated at 0.5-2 meter intervals from 0-14 meters deep with the bottom sensor approximately 1 meter from the sediments. The dissolved oxygen (Zebra-Tech d-opto) sensor was deployed at approximately 1 meter below the surface and recorded oxygen concentration (mg/L), oxygen saturation (%), and temperature at the sensor (oxygen saturation is not included in this dataset). The buoy was anchored at approximately 15 meter deep water near the Loon Island lighthouse in the northern half of the lake, near the deepest part of the lake (43.390 N, -72.057 W). During the winter of 2007 - 2008, the buoy froze into the ice and continually recorded data with the uppermost thermistor below the bottom of the ice. In winter of 2008 - 2009, the buoy was damaged by ice and data were not collected until re-deployment on 29 July 2009. In subsequent years, the buoy was deployed from April or May to October or November at the Loon Island location and limited data were obtained during the winter months at the Sunapee Harbor (43.386 N, -72.081 W). High-frequency temperature data from four near-shore sites, Lake Sunapee, NH, USA, 2006-2018

Onset temperature loggers were located at four near-shore sites in Lake Sunapee, New Hampshire, USA. The temperature sensors were co-located at sites where monitoring for Gloeotrichia echinulata, a large colonial cyanobacterium, occurred (see EDI data package edi.497). Temperature loggers were deployed during the summer months (approximately June through September) in 2006-2018 at Herrick Cove South (site = HerrickCoveSouth), 2007-2018 South of the Fells (site = SouthOfTheFells), Newbury (site = Newbury), North Sunapee Harbor (site = NorthSunapeeHarbor).
