Open Data Set for the article Analysing the impact of renewables on Iberian wholesale electricity market prices using machine learning techniques. Green Finance, 2024, 6 (2), 363-382
<p>The datasets available for open access from the article ‘<em>Ballester, C. and Furió, D. (2024). Analysing the impact of renewables on Iberian wholesale electricity market prices using machine learning techniques. Green Finance, 6 (2), 363-382</em>’ are provided here. This study has been supported by funding from the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation, and Universities (Project PGC2018-093645-B-100).</p> <p>The data encompasses the price series of the components of the final wholesale prices, other than the day-ahead market price, at an hourly frequency, from January 2017 to December 2021. In particular, the daily average of the hourly price series of the intraday market, which captures the net effect of the six sessions of the intraday market on the final price, the daily average of the hourly net effect on the final price of the procedure to solve technical constraints, the daily average of the hourly costs resulting from ancillary services and deviation management, the daily average of the hourly costs related to capacity payments and the daily average of the hourly costs associated with the interruptibility service. In addition, we compute the daily average of the hourly series of bids (price and amount) individually submitted by market participants to buy or sell energy, distinguishing between matched and non-matched bids, both in the day-ahead market and in the first session of the intraday market. Other energy-related price series included in the analysis are: the Dutch TTF futures price, the API2 index for the coal price, the EUA futures price, the percentage of hours with 100% use from the France-Spain interconnection, the spread from the France-Spain interconnection, the percentage of water reserves in the reservoirs of the Iberian Peninsula. All shareable data are made available in accordance with open data principles to promote transparency and reproducibility in research. However, there is a specific dataset that we are not authorized to share publicly. Specifically, this includes the data corresponding to the Dutch TTF futures price and the API2 index. Consequently, this dataset is published under restricted access.</p>
Open Data Set for the article Dynamic demand response to electricity prices: Evidence from the Spanish retail market. Utilities Policy, 88 (2024), 101763
<p><span>The datasets available for open access from the article ‘Furió, D. and Moreno-del-Castillo, J.<em> Dynamic demand response to electricity prices: Evidence from the Spanish retail market. Utilities Policy, 88 (2024), 101763</em>’ are provided here.</span></p> <p><span>The datasets comprise time series data on wholesale market global prices and quantity demanded by reference suppliers and competing retailers, along with day-ahead market prices for each of the 24 hours of the day spanning from January 1, 2007, to March 31, 2022. These series have been downloaded from the CNMC website. Additionally, primary temperature data were obtained from the Spanish Meteorological Agency’s website. This dataset provided hourly weather information from a nationwide network of weather stations. Given the scope of the demand series data, which reflects the entire Spanish market, the temperature series were constructed to ensure national representativeness. These data were then aggregated to develop comprehensive national temperature series, aligning them with the demand series. <span>Finally, a dummy variable for each day t of the studied period was constructed to capture the business/non-business day effect on electricity demand. It takes the value of 1 if </span></span><span>𝑡</span><span> corresponds to a working day (non-holiday, Monday to Friday) and 0 otherwise. The national holidays considered are as follows: January 1st, January 6th, May 1st, August 15th, October 12th, November 1st, December 6th, December 8th, and December 25th. Additionally, the corresponding Good Friday for each year included in the study period was also considered.</span></p>
Social Media Marketing for SMEs: Leveraging Information Systems for Sales Performance
<p><span>Small and medium enterprises (SMEs) may directly interact with more clientele using social media marketing (SMM). To ensure accurate data and effective monitoring of progress, the field of SMM requires implementing a robust information system. This study examines the impact of information systems on consumer engagement in social media marketing for SMEs. This approach assesses the adoption of social media marketing using a single variable. This study employed purposive sampling to identify 129 SMEs for cross-sectional preliminary research. The preliminary research will take place around Jabodetabek in May and June of 2024, utilizing a Google Form survey. The author analyzed the data obtained from PLS-SEM using Smart PLS 3.0. This preliminary research computed Partial Least Squares (PLS) scores and performed bootstrapping. From a statistical standpoint, social media enhances the marketing effectiveness of SMEs in Indonesia. The market's efficiency and performance demonstrate the gain. This preliminary research consists of nine variables, such as, competitor pressure, affordable marketing cost, user generated content, belief in information, customer relationship, social media marketing adoption, SMEs’ marketing engagement, and sales performance, with only one hypothesis exhibiting a non-significant relationship.</span></p> <p><span>Keywords—<em>social media marketing, SMEs, information systems, marketing engagement</em></span></p>

Variation in female leverage: The influence of kinship and market effects on the extent of female power over males in Verreaux's Sifaka
<p class="MsoNormal">Female mammals employ reproductive strategies (e.g., internal gestation) that result in power asymmetries specific to intersexual dyads. Because the number of eggs available for fertilization at any given time for most mammals is quite limited, having a fertilizable egg is potentially an important source of economic power for females. Control over mating opportunities is a source of intersexual leverage for female Verreaux's sifaka (<em>Propithecus verreauxi</em>). We examined economic factors thought to influence the value of mating opportunities, and, thus, the extent of female leverage: kinship and market effects. Using a longitudinal dataset of agonistic interactions collected during focal animal sampling of all adult individuals in 10 social groups from 2008-2019, we tested the effects of relatedness, female parity, reproductive season, and adult sex ratio (population and group) on (1) the direction of submissive signalling and (2) which sex won a contested resource. While 96% of the acts of submission were directed from males towards females, females only won a third of their conflicts with males. Thus, our study has implications for evolutionary explanations of female-biased power. If female power evolved due to their greater need for food and other resources, then intersexual conflicts would be expected to result in males more consistently relinquishing control of resources. As expected, males were more likely to chatter submissively towards successful mothers, during the mating season, and when the sex ratio was male-biased. Although females generally had less power to win a conflict when their fertilizable egg was less valuable (when they were nulliparous or unsuccessful mothers or when interacting with male kin) and with an increasing female-bias in the sex ratio, this ability to win additionally was influenced by which sex initiated the conflict. Our study demonstrates that female leverage can be influenced by the supply and demand for mating opportunities, but evoking submission does not translate into winning a resource. Indeed, intersexual power is dynamic, contextual, and dependent on the individuals in the dyad.</p>
Behavioral analysis for market anomalies with heterogeneous agent model
<p>This paper investigates the effect of heterogeneity and bounded rationality on market anomalies in price formation. We establish a heterogeneous agent model under prospect theory, where asset price fluctuation is determined by evolutionary dynamics system embedded in the model. Specifically, our model includes three types of expectation schemes related to different decision-making progresses: the rational scheme, the emotional scheme and the noise scheme. Agents under emotional scheme make decisions based on the cumulative prospect theory framework, which makes psychological factor tractable. By analyzing the distribution of return rate under selected parameters, we show that the model return shares the same pattern as those of SSE 50 Index. Furthermore, we investigate the factors of option implied volatility smile based on dynamic system, and the results suggest that the smile anomaly may be associated with the tail risk of the underlying asset's return distribution, which is effected by market stability and psychological factors.</p>
