Roadside rights-of-way as pollinator habitat: a literature review
<p>Pollination of crops and naturally-occurring flowering plants is a critical ecosystem service provided by managed and unmanaged animal pollinators. Insects are the most studied pollinators, particularly managed honey bees, unmanaged wild bees, and butterflies. Bees and butterflies thrive in early-successional habitat featuring grasses, exposed soil, wildflowers, and shrubs, which is consistently found within transportation and utility rights-of-way (ROW). However, intensive management of ROW can reduce the amount of high-quality pollinator habitat; such practices include frequent mowing, broadcast herbicide use, and planting non-native cool season grasses. Here, we review peer-reviewed academic and non-peer-reviewed gray literature describing ROW management practices and their effects on pollinator populations. Both information sources consistently recommend these management practices to provide pollinator habitat in ROW and promote plant and pollinator diversity and abundance:</p> <ol> <li>Reduce mowing frequency and time mowing to pollinator activity. </li> <li>Target herbicide applications to undesirable plant species using backpack sprayers.</li> <li>Plant native seeds, seedlings, or shrubs, leaving some exposed soil for nesting.</li> </ol> <p>We considered threats to plants and pollinators associated with ROW, including traffic volume and mortality, noise, light, and air pollution, and habitat fragmentation. The literature indicates that these threats vary widely across road sizes, types, and landscape contexts and suggests that the overall negative impacts do not outweigh the potential benefits of promoting pollinator habitat in ROW. Landscape context also influences the composition of ROW plant and pollinator communities.</p> <p>Many state Departments of Transportation have incorporated integrative vegetation management (IVM) principles into ROW management, and we summarize a number of case studies here. Restoration projects in high-visibility areas are common; these can lead to public support for additional pollinator habitat enhancement. Implementing new management practices can be difficult; therefore, we discuss strategies to aid in successful adoption, including gathering public support, collaborations between public and private agencies, and innovative funding opportunities. While assessing vegetation management impacts on bee and butterfly communities in ROW is a rapidly expanding area of research, there are still many gaps in current knowledge. We conclude this report by addressing these gaps and provide suggestions for further study.</p>

<p>Introduction</p> <p>This database includes the data linked with the paper “Only an inkblot? A literature review of the neural correlates of the Rorschach inkblot test” published in “Neuroscience & Biobehavioral Reviews”.</p> <p>In this paper, we reported information on neural correlates of the underlying perceptual-cognitive processing and potentially identify neuroimaging markers of psychopathology risk assessed through the Rorschach inkblot test. The present review offers a systematization of the available literature on the Rorschach inkblot test and neuroimaging research.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>The 13 selected studies had been conducted with healthy participants and using fMRI, EEG, and fNIRS to investigate the neural underpinnings of Rorschach inkblot test responses.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>The temporo-occipital and posterior temporal gyrus activations suggest not a primary visual activation but denote more complex visual processing. A positive personal attitude towards ambiguity is associated with increased response in the visual cortex when presenting ambiguous stimuli. The limbic system activation highlights underlying processing in the emotional and memory domains responses in the "oral" domain are associated with motor and premotor activation. MNS activity has been observed during both movements' execution and observation.</p>

The Nunavut Arctic College and the mobilization of Inuit Qaujimajatuqangit in Nunavut research: A systematic review of research literature (Dataset)
<p>This dataset is part of a systemic literature review that supports a North by North research project led by NAC with assistance from NRI and supported through Memorial University of Newfoundland and Labrador. It provides a review of existing research in Nunavut, documenting types of support NAC and NRI and how IQ is used in literature. Its findings show how NAC and NRI are involved in research, and how Inuit Qaujimanituqangit and Western Sciences are brought together in research. A main focus of this work prioritizes northern and Inuit participation and ways of knowing in research processes.</p>

Authorship information of open educational resources derived from peer-reviewed scientific literature
<p>This dataset evaluates the authorship of open educational resources available at 5 STEM resource web sites (EcoEd Digital Library, CourseSource, Teaching Issues and Experiments in Ecology, Teach the Earth, and the National Center for Case Study Teaching in Science). Using 20 exercises from each site, it evaluates the proportion of exercises that draw on peer-reviewed scientific studies; of those, it also evaluates the proportion in which any author of the teaching exercise overlaps with any author of a scientific article from which the open educational resource is derived. The overall goal is to evaluate overlap in authorship between scientific publications and associated open educational resources. The first tab shows how the studies were selected and the second tab presents authorship data for each study.</p>
