A Novel Algorithm for Estimating Web Page Ranking in Search Engine Results Pages
<p><em><strong>Abstract:</strong> </em>Search engine optimization (SEO) can make a big improvement in the traffic to a web page. Because search engines keep their main rules of ranking undeclared, it’s important to develop models that can estimate the ranking of a web page in the search engine to be able to optimize web pages to rank higher in the search engine. The available research methodologies used machine learning algorithms to provide solutions for this target with the help of generated datasets by scraping the search engine results pages (SERP) and crawling web pages. Their proposed models suffered from the inability to be updated dynamically if the search engine updated its ranking algorithm, and their input data did not include the diversity of web pages and languages. This research will propose a novel original rank estimation algorithm that’s able to overcome other research challenges, with a set of comparative experiments and complexity analysis. Results will show that the proposed algorithm could achieve higher values of accuracy, precision, and recall.</p> <p><strong><em>Dataset: </em></strong></p> <p>For research purpose, the dataset will play two roles, first, it will act the role of search engine result pages (SERP), and second, it will be used to test algorithms and calculate performance measurements. Dataset is consisting of 9930 web pages, aimed to identify search results pages, focusing on the top 3 pages of SERP, with 31 extracted attributes that's related to search engine optimization (SEO). The distribution of examples between class labels was balanced, with changes due to scraping operation issues, but not significantly different, with fractions of 39.9%, 34.6%, and 25.5% for the class labels page1, page2, and page 3. It involved also removing missing values, duplicates, and data type conversions to obtain a comprehensive dataset.<br> Keyword selection involves selecting keywords from various categories and considering diversity, including high and low traffic, long-term and short-term keywords, and generic and branded keywords. Apify online tool was used for search engine scraping with default language and US country, resulting in 388 selected keywords with 30 results per keyword. Dataset included extracted SEO features from 9991 web pages using screamingFrog desktop software and Rapidminer desktop software, determining page SEO-friendliness and comparing it to SERP rankings. Dataset cleaning involved removing redundant attributes, removing paid SERP results, replacing missing values, and converting data types. Rapidminer was used for data cleaning and preprocessing, generating new attributes related to keyword usage in web pages.<br> </p>
Macroinvertebrate ecosystem engineering affects streambed retention of microplastics
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>Microplastic pollution of aquatic environments threatens human health, ecosystem processes, and biodiversity. Many existing models of microplastic movement in streams do not account for biotic effects on microplastic fate. Ecosystem engineering by net-spinning caddisflies (Hydropsychidae) has been shown to substantially affect sediment and organic matter transport as well as streambed hydrology. Caddisfly engineering may likewise affect the movement of microplastic pollution in streams. We used a controlled 11-d flume experiment to investigate the potential for caddisflies to serve as a biotic control on microplastic transport. Flumes containing a single gravel dune were randomly assigned to density treatments: control (0 caddisflies/m<sup>2</sup>) or stocked with 500, 800, or 2500 caddisflies/m<sup>2</sup>, incubated (d 1–10) to allow for caddisfly silk structure construction, inoculated (d 11) with PVC microplastics (333 µm–1 mm), and sampled (d 12). Microplastic was quantified as caught in a drift net (downstream transport), eaten by caddisflies (ingestion), or captured in caddisfly silk structures or settled into the gravel dune (i.e., total streambed retention). Mean downstream plastic transport was 9% lower than the control in the 800 caddisflies/m<sup>2</sup> treatment and 10% lower in the 2500 caddisflies/m<sup>2</sup> treatment (<em>p</em> < 0.001 and <em>p</em> = 0.003, respectively). Mean total streambed retention was 9% higher than control in the 800 caddisflies/m<sup>2</sup> treatment (<em>p</em> < 0.001) and 910% higher in the 2500 caddisflies/m<sup>2</sup> treatment (<em>p</em> = 0.004). Ingestion of plastic by caddisflies was rare and highly variable (0–0.55% of plastic particles) but did increase with caddisfly density (<em>p</em> = 0.002). This work represents one of the first investigations of animal ecosystem engineering as a control on the movement and fate of microplastic particles in fresh waters and establishes a foundation for future research on biotic control of microplastic transport.</span><span> Our results suggest that ecosystem engineering by net-spinning caddisflies may serve as a biotic control of microplastic transport in freshwater streams. </span></p>

Validated CFD Model for Multimode Gasoline Compression Ignition Engine
<p>A validated CFD model for the multimode combustion engine developed under the DOE funded project DE-EE0008478 (Co-optimized Mixed-Mode Engine and Fuel Demonstrator for Improved Fuel Economy while Meeting Emissions Requirements). It incorporates advanced physics-based fuel surrogate models for thermophysical properties and reaction kinetics. The combustion modes include spark ignition (SI), low temperature combustion (LTC), and compression ignition (CI). The real fuel model was validated for RON60, RON70, RON80, RON90, and two biofuel blends. DARTER: Digital twins for Accessible Real Testing grounds for automotive Engineers and Researchers
<p>The DARTER dataset contains a sample (for now) of driving data (camera, LiDAR, IMU, steering wheel angle, etc.) without labels gathered at AstaZero's test track using the Chalmers ReVeRe lab's SnowFox test vehicle. DARTER stands for Digital twins for Accessible Real Testing grounds for automotive Engineers and Researchers. This research was possible thanks to the funds of a SAFER pre-study grant.</p> <p> </p> <p><strong>About DARTER:</strong></p> <p>Verification and validation (V&V) of Intelligent Transport Solutions and their components in real traffic is difficult (costs, passers-by, etc.) and running tests under all possible conditions (weather, traffic, etc.) is impossible. For these reasons, controlled proving grounds and simulations are being used to safely increase the coverage of V&V. </p> <p>The DARTER project, a SAFER pre-study, addresses two issues connected to these alternatives. On the one hand, the limited access to real proving grounds and their corresponding high-fidelity simulations of academic researchers, key in evaluating the benefits and social and environmental harms that technological advances can pose. Grain Boundary Engineering Enhances the Thermoelectric Properties of Y2Te3
<div> <p>The performance of thermoelectric materials is typically assessed using the dimensionless figure of merit, <em>zT</em>. Increasing <em>zT</em> is challenging due to the intricate relationships between electrical and thermal transport properties. This study focuses on Y<sub>2</sub>Te<sub>3</sub>-based thermoelectric materials, which are predicted to be promising for high-temperature applications due to their inherently low lattice thermal conductivity. A series of Y<sub>2+x</sub>Te<sub>3</sub> compositions with excess Y was synthesized to explore the effects on electronic and structural characteristics. Density functional theory calculations suggest that additional Y atoms increase charge carriers, thereby enhancing electrical conductivity and boosting thermoelectric performance. X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the presence of excess Y reduces lattice volume and alters bonding structures. Furthermore, the addition of Bi significantly enhances the power factor by promoting the segregation of elemental Bi particles and the formation of Y-Bi-rich grain boundaries, which improve weighted mobility. This microstructural optimization leads to a fourfold increase in the Seebeck coefficient, resulting in a peak <em>zT</em> of 1.23 at 973 K and a predicted maximum conversion efficiency of 10.3% under a temperature difference of 673 K. These findings highlight the potential of Y<sub>2</sub>Te<sub>3</sub> for high-temperature thermoelectric applications and demonstrate the effectiveness of grain boundary engineering in enhancing thermoelectric performance.</p> <p> </p> <p>DOI: <a href="https://doi.org/10.1002/aenm.202404243">10.1002/aenm.202404243</a></p> </div>
