Day 204: Medieval Castle - 1scanaday

![](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/a/ab/Panoramic_view_of_La_Couvertoirade_02.jpg/1200px-Panoramic_view_of_La_Couvertoirade_02.jpg) Nestling at the heart of the Causse du Larzac, in wild, unspoilt countryside, the medieval village of **La Couvertoirade** has retained a truly remarkable group of buildings from its Templar and Hospitaller past. The towers and wall-walk of the ramparts, fortified doors, Templar castle from the late 12th century, fortress church from the 14th century, paved side streets dotted with typical stone houses, and old residences. This village is ranked among the most beautiful villages in France. Captured with the iPhone 12 Pro & Polycam. Medieval Lintel, Santa Fiora.

A Medieval door lintel in Via del Fondaccio Santa Fiora, Grosseto, Tuscany. Wild boar hunt with hunting dogs and spearman. The lintel in which the basrelief was carved shows toolmarks related to a possible 14th c. production, although the piece was re-positioned later in its current location. Model was created in Reality Capture using 249 photographs. The Mt. Amiata Project is an ongoing GDH collaboration involving faculty and students at the University of Florence and the University of Siena. We could not have done this project without the considerable support of the Municipality of Santa Fiora. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Medieval Tombstone, Montemor-o-Novo

Circular tombstone, made in marble, with a cross with the end of its arms looking like a fleur-de-lis. It is a tombstone from the 15th century and is actually in deposit at the Museum of the Convento de S. Domingos, in Montemor-o-Novo. Provenance: This piece comes from the Castle of Montemor-o-Novo, probably from the archaeological deposit of the Church of Santiago, which existed there until the 1980s. In the medieval village inside the fortified walls there were four parish churches, and cemetaries were built around each one. During the Middle Ages it was customary to mark the graves with tombstones, which were nothing more than slabs of stone placed standing straight, on which were engraved religious symbols and on which sometimes was indicated the profession of the deceased. This set of stelae comes safely from the ancient medieval cemeteries inside the castle, although it is not possible to determine to which church (s) it was associated. Medieval Archivolt 4

Medieval archivolt of the thirteenth century belonging to the Portico de Santiago, in the parish church of El Salvador (Cifuentes, Spain). It corresponds to the left side of the arch where various diabolic figures that represent vices and evil are located. These diabolical figures torment and martyr some individuals, in a clear representation of Hell and the future that awaits sinners. Since almost nobody knew how to read in the Middle Ages, these images were used by the Church for pedagogical purposes to convey its message. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab

Medieval Gargoyle (Montemor-o-Novo)

A peculiar gargoyle, in granite, probably from the ruins of Santa Maria do Bispo's Church, in Montemor-o-Novo's Castle. This piece is preserved in the Montemor-o-Novo's Archaeological Museum in the Convent of São Domingos. The piece features two human figures holding each other in what appears, at the first look, to be a romantic scene, altough with some erotic characteristics that could be hidden from those that don't look for the details. Photos from Canon 5D Mk IV (35mm lens). Completely processed (aligned, scaled, modeled, cleaned, simplified, unwrapped, textured, meshed) in Reality Capture. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
