Legacy Partner Archive: (0882) eMammal

eMammal is a data management system and archive for camera trap research projects. This cyber-tool is designed to not only be useful to scientists, but also to the citizen scientists who aid scientists in photo collection. Camera trappers use our software to look at pictures, identify animals and upload them for review and archive at the Smithsonian. These data then help address important conservation-related questions. The pictures provide a unique view into the secret world of wildlife.

https://emammal.si.edu

Inventory of ancient environmental DNA from sedimentary archives: locations, methods, and target taxa

Locations of sampling sites from sedimentary ancient environmental DNA (aeDNA) studies. aeDNA is DNA that has degraded into short fragments, exhibits post-mortem damage signatures, and is recovered from a non-living tissue, organism, or environmental sample. Here we focus on sedimentary archives with contiguous records such as lake and marine sediments, permafrost, middens, cave sediments, soils, and incidental associated surface sediment samples used to interpret sedimentary archives. Studies span historic and ancient time periods using a variety of DNA-based methods (i.e., metabarcoding, shotgun sequencing, target capture, qPCR, ddPCR, and others) to study taxa from microorganisms to plants and mammals.

Data - Mentions and names of God in the Archives Parlementaires (French Revolution)

This graphs are the result of a distant reading of the Archives Parlementaires (AP), the edition of discourses (and documents related to discourses) pronounced in the French national assemblies during the French Revolution. We made a list of names of God and searched for them. We classified the results also according to time. We can get an idea of the changes in the frequency of mentions of God, and in the names used to speak of God.

Yet it must also be mentioned that we may not have identified all possible mentions of God, for two reasons: 1) God can be referred to implicitely or through rarer expressions; 2) there are OCR errors.

The actual figures should be thus significantly higher. In the framework of our project, we did not intend to obtain statistical precision. It was enough for us to show that mentions of God played an important role in the political culture of the French Revolution.
