The First ISCCP Regional Experiments have been designed to improve data products and cloud/radiation parameterizations used in general circulation models (GCMs). Specifically, the goals of FIRE are (1) to improve basic understanding of the interaction of physical processes in determining life cycles of cirrus and marine stratocumulus systems and the radiative properties of these clouds during their life cycles and (2) to investigate the interrelationships between the ISCCP data, GCM parameterizations, and higher space and time resolution clouddata.To-date, four intensive field-observation periods were planned and executed: a cirrus IFO (October 13 - November 2, 1986); a marine stratocumulus IFO off the southwestern coast of California (June 29 - July 20, 1987); a second cirrus IFO in southeastern Kansas (November 13 - December 7, 1991); and a second marine stratocumulus IFO in the eastern North Atlantic Ocean (June 1 - June 28, 1992). Each mission combined coordinated satellite, airborne, and surface observations with modeling studies to investigate the cloud properties and physical processes of the cloud systems.These files are calculations of the daily solar irradiance at the surface, based on observations by the METEOSAT. The file naming convention is: esqDDMMYYx.fis where DDMMYY is the dateThese files are: I2 pixels, 376 pixels/row, 326 rows. OMI/Aura Hyperspectral UV Irradiance and Underwater Attenuation Coefficient 1-Orbit L2 Swath 13x24km V004 (OMOCNUV) at GES DISC
The Collection 4 Aura Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) Hyperspectral Surface and Underwater UV Irradiances (OMOCNUV) product is now available from the NASA Goddard Earth Sciences Data and Information Services Center. The OMOCNUV product contains surface UV irradiances from 290 to 399 nm, as well as planar and scalar irradiances and diffuse attenuation coefficients over water, and other ancillary variables. Details can be found in the OMOCNUV readme document (see Documentation tab).The OMOCNUV files are stored in the version 4 netCDF format. Each Level-2 file contains data from the sunlit portion of an orbit (~53 minutes). There are approximately 14 orbits per day. The average file size is about 91 MB.

Earth Radiation Budget Experiment (ERBE) Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) from the Earth Radiation Budget Satellite in Native Format
ERBE_TSI_ERBS_NAT is the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment (ERBE) Total Solar Irradiance (TSI) from the Earth Radiation Budget Satellite in Native Format data set. Data collection for this product is complete.The goal of the ERBE was to produce monthly averages of longwave and shortwave radiation parameters on the Earth at regional to global scales. Preflight mission analysis lead to a three spacecraft system to provide the geographic and temporal sampling required to meet this goal. Three, nearly identical, sets of instruments were built and launched on three separate spacecraft. These instruments differed principally in the spacecraft interface electronics and in the field-of-view limiters for the non-scanner instruments that were required due to differences in the spacecraft orbit altitudes. The ERBS spacecraft was launched by Space Shuttle Challenger in October 1984 and was the first spacecraft to carry ERBE instruments into orbit. ERBS was designed and built by Ball Aerospace Systems under contract to NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), and ERBS was the first spacecraft dedicated to NASA science experiments to be launched by the Space Shuttle. ERBS carried the Stratospheric Aerosols and Gas Experiment II (SAGE II) in addition to the ERBE instruments. The Payload Operation and Control Center (POCC) at GSFC directed operations of the ERBS spacecraft as well as the ERBE and SAGE II instruments and employed both ground stations and the Tracking and Data Relay Satellite System (TDRSS) network. Spacecraft and instrument telemetry data were received at GSFC where the data were processed by the Information Processing Division that provided ERBE and SAGE II experiment data to the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC). The second and third spacecraft that launched with ERBE instruments were the Television Infrared Radiometer Orbiting Satellite (TIROS) N-class spacecraft, which was a part of the NOAA operational meteorological satellite series. The NOAA-9 and NOAA-10 spacecraft were launched in December 1984 and September 1986, respectively. The NOAA spacecraft included other instruments, such as the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) and the High-Resolution Infrared Radiometer Sounder (HIRS), which provided NOAA with data for near-real-time weather forecasting. Both spacecraft were in nearly Sun-synchronous orbits. At launch equator-crossing times for the NOAA-9 and NOAA-10 orbits were 1420 UT (ascending) and 1930 UT (descending), respectively, where UT denotes universal time. The Satellite Operations and Control Center (SOCC) at the National Environmental Satellite and Data Information Service (NESDIS) operated the NOAA spacecraft. NOAA provided telemetry data and generated ERBE data for LaRC. From 1984 through 1994, TSI values were obtained from the solar monitor on the ERBS non-scanner. The individual TSI values represented orbital averages of the instantaneous measurements which were corrected for the angle between the instrument optical axis and the Sun and which were normalized to the mean Earth/Sun distance. At least once every 2 weeks, the Sun was observed by the monitor for several 64-second measurement intervals. Each interval was separated into two 32-second periods. During the first period, the Sun drifted across the 9.2-degree non-occulted field of view, and its radiation field is measured. During the second period, a low-emittance shutter, representative of a near-zero irradiance source, was cycled into the field of view, and the low irradiance from the back of the shutter was measured. The resulting measurements from the two different periods were used to define the irradiance, using the model that is described in Characteristics of the Earth Radiation Budget Experiment Solar Monitors by R. B. Lee III, B. R. Barkstrom, and R. D. Cess.Typically, two to eight values of the irradiance were determined during an orbit. Considering that these irradiance values were derived typically during a single orbit for a few minutes, the averaged irradiance values represented an almost instantaneous level, and not a daily average.

Gene expression data from 4T1 irradiated tumors treated with TGFbeta blockade
Accumulating data support the concept that ionizing radiation therapy (RT) has the potential to convert the tumor into an in situ individualized vaccine; however this potential is rarely realized by RT alone. Transforming growth factor xce xb2 (TGF xce xb2) is an immunosuppressive cytokine that is activated by RT and inhibits the antigen-presenting function of dendritic cells and the differentiation of effector CD8+ T cells. Here we tested the hypothesis that TGF xce xb2 hinders the ability of RT to promote anti-tumor immunity. Development of tumor-specific immunity was examined in a pre-clinical model of metastatic breast cancer. Mice bearing established 4T1 mouse mammary carcinoma treated with pan-isoform specific TGF xce xb2 neutralizing antibody 1D11 showed significantly improved control of the irradiated tumor and non-irradiated metastases but no effect in the absence of RT. Notably whole tumor transcriptional analysis demonstrated the selective upregulation of genes associated with immune-mediated rejection only in tumors of mice treated with RT+TGF xce xb2 blockade. Mice treated with RT+TGF xce xb2 blockade exhibited cross-priming of CD8+ T cells producing IFN xce xb3 in response to three tumor-specific antigens in tumor-draining lymph nodes which was not evident for single modality treatment. Analysis of the immune infiltrate in mouse tumors showed a significant increase in CD4+ and CD8+ T cells only in mice treated with the combination of RT+TGF xce xb2 blockade. Depletion of CD4+ or CD8+ T cells abrogated the therapeutic benefit of RT+TGF xce xb2 blockade. These data identify TGF xce xb2 as a master inhibitor of the ability of RT to generate an in situ tumor vaccine which supports testing inhibition of TGF xce xb2 during radiotherapy to promote therapeutically effective anti-tumor immunity. We used genome-wide microarray to depict main biological processes responsibles for the therapeutic benefit of the combination ofTGF-beta blockade and local radiotherapy. To gain a more comprehensice protrait of the effects of RT and TGFbeta blockade on gene expressionin tumors we collected 4T1 tumors 4 days after completion of RT. Three tumors from each group were then subjected to RNA extraction and hybridization on affymetrix array.
Sentinel-5P TROPOMI Irradiance product SWIR module L1B V2 (S5P_L1B_IR_SIR) at GES DISC
The Copernicus Sentinel-5 Precursor (Sentinel-5P or S5P) satellite mission is one of the European Space Agency's (ESA) new mission family - Sentinels, and it is a joint initiative between the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the ESA. The sole payload on Sentinel-5P is the TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI), which is a nadir-viewing 108 degree Field-of-View push-broom grating hyperspectral spectrometer, covering the wavelength of ultraviolet-visible (UV-VIS, 270nm to 495nm), near infrared (NIR, 675nm to 775nm), and shortwave infrared (SWIR, 2305nm-2385nm).TROPOMI Level-1B (L1B) product is generated by the Koninklijk Nederlands Meteoroligisch Instituut (KNMI) TROPOMI L01B processor from Level-0 input data and auxiliary data products with the netCDF-4 enhanced model. It provides users with radiance, irradiance, calibration and engineering products.
Gene expression profiles of irradiated lung tissue in three mouse strains
The aim of our research is to clarify the mechanisms generating heterogeneity in response to C-ion irradiation that arise from individual genetic variations in humans. In this study we performed whole lung C-ion irradiation using three different strains of mice to examine whether strain-dependent differences in radiation effects occur in high-LET C-ion thoracic irradiation. Murine strain-variance was evaluated by histopathological examination of intra-alveolar hemorrhage that is likely to occur during the early phase after irradiation and of lung fibrosis during the late phase occurring more than three months after irradiation. We also performed microarray analysis to identify the key genes that are differentially regulated in different mouse strains after C-ion irradiation and to determine the mechanism of strain-dependent pulmonary damage after high-LET C-ion irradiation. Eight-week old female inbred C3H/He Slc C57BL/6J Jms Slc and A/J Jms Slc mice (3 kinds of mice) were used. The whole thorax of three mice was locally irradiated at 10 Gy with C-ion beams with a reference beam 137Cs gamma-rays (2 kinds of beam). Three mice of each strain (3 mice) were sacrificed and immediately dissected for lung extraction at 6 h (6h sample). Lungs for three mice of each strain without irradiation were extracted at the same time as control samples (control sample). Hybridization to microarrays (Whole Mouse Genome 4x44K OligoMicroarray Kit single color Cyamine 3-CTP) consisting of 44,000 total spots was conducted using an Agilent Gene Expression hybridization kit. The arrays from three independent replicates for each sample (3 arrays) were scanned on an Agilent dual-laser Microarray Scanner (all from Agilent Technologies) following the manufacturer s instructions. A total of 108 samples were analyzed. 3 replicate arrays x 3 mice x 3 strains x 2 timing for sampling x 2 kinds of beam.
