WaivOps RTRO-DRM: Open Audio Resources for Machine Learning in Music

<p><strong>WaivOps RTRO-DRM Dataset</strong></p> <p>RTRO-DRM is an open audio dataset composed of a series of drum recordings in the style of 1980s electronic music. The dataset comprises 2138 raw, unedited audio clips recorded in uncompressed stereo WAV format. These recordings were curated using an internal drum sample dataset and MIDI files sourced from a code-based music generation system, along with a MIDI transformer model trained on more than 30,000 MIDI files. The files primarily consist of recordings that may not meet conventional audio quality standards but can still be valuable for a range of applications and research projects.</p> <p><strong>Dataset</strong></p> <p>The primary objective of this dataset is to provide accessible content for machine learning applications in music and audio research. Food quantity and the intensity of the alarm signal combine to modulate the resource selection in a termite species

<p>Maximizing food intake while minimizing risk is an important trade-off in the foraging behavior of most animals. In general, foragers are vulnerable and the ability to trade off benefits (food quantity) against costs (risk of being killed) may provide a considerable ecological advantage. Despite the increasing number of studies, the effects of food quantity and mortality risk signals on resource selection in eusocial insect is not well understood. Here, we investigated the combination of distinct levels of food quantity and the intensity of alarm signal on resource selection of a Neotropical termite, <em>Nasutitermes</em> <em>corniger</em> (Motschulsky) (Termitidae: Nasutitermitinae). Manipulative bioassays with binary and multiple choices were conducted over time to check the recruitment of termite groups among resources containing different levels of food quantity and alarm signals. Overall, our results showed that regardless of food quantity, termites avoid a food source if there is even a small amount of alarm signal. This work contributes to a better understanding of habitat use by termite species. Furthermore, it shows for the first time the combined effects of food quantity and alarm signals on the resource selection of an important ecological and economic termite species. </p>

Data from: Home is where the high-quality resources are: nursery characteristics and territory distribution suggest reproductive resource defense in golden rocket frogs

<p><span>For externally fertilizing animals, the early stages of development are often the most precarious. In the face of multiple abiotic and biotic stressors, parents must assess and select rearing sites that maximize the probability of offspring survival. This is particularly true for Neotropical poison frogs, many of which transport tadpoles to small pools of water called phytotelmata that serve as larval-rearing sites. In these systems, pool choice can have a large effect on offspring growth and survival. Here, we studied the golden rocket frog (</span><em>Anomaloglossus</em> <em>beebei</em>, Aromobatidae), a territorial phytotelm-breeding frog that lives exclusively in giant tank bromeliads (<em>Brocchinia</em> <em>micrantha</em>), to examine phytotelm selection and reproductive resource defense. We first quantified the characteristics of phytotelmata and found that tadpoles were more likely to occur in pools with low levels of mucilage and in leaves at intermediate heights on the plant. We additionally found that low mucilage pools have significantly clearer water, have higher concentrations of dissolved oxygen, and are exposed to lower levels of photosynthetically active radiation. We then mapped the spatial distribution of pools with low levels of mucilage in relation to male territories and found that these "clear" pools are (1) more likely to be within male territories than outside of them, and (2) territory centroids are closer to clear pools than are random locations. Overall, our results show that male golden rocket frogs defend territories that include preferred tadpole deposition sites, suggesting a direct relationship between high-quality reproductive resources and territory defense.</p>

Data from: Pollinator competition and the contingency of nectar depletion during an early spring resource pulse

<p>Concerns about competition between pollinators are predicated on the assumption of floral resource limitation. Floral resource limitation, however, is a complex phenomenon involving the interplay of resource production by plants, resource demand by pollinators, and exogenous factors — like weather conditions — that constrain both plants and pollinators. In this study, we examine nectar limitation during the mass flowering of rosaceous fruit trees in early spring. Our study is set in the same region as a previous study that found extremely severe nectar limitation in summer grasslands. We use this seasonal contrast to evaluate two alternative hypotheses concerning the seasonal dynamics of floral resource limitation: either (H1) rates of resource production and consumption are matched through seasonal time to maintain a consistent degree of resource limitation or (H2) a mismatch of high floral resource production and low pollinator activity in early spring creates a period of relaxed resource limitation that intensifies later in the year. We found generally much lower depletion in our study compared to the near 100% depletion found in the summer study, but depletion rates varied markedly through diel time and across sampling days, with afternoon depletion rates sometimes exceeding 80%. In some cases, there were also pronounced differences in depletion rate across simultaneously sampled floral species, indicating different degrees of nectar exploitation. These findings generally support the seasonal mismatch hypothesis (H2) but underscore the complex contingency of nectar depletion. The challenge of future work is to discern how the fluctuation of resource limitation across diel, inter-diel, and seasonal time scales translates into population-level fitness outcomes for pollinators.</p>
