The EcoTrends project was established in 2004 by Dr. Debra Peters (Jornada Basin LTER, USDA-ARS Jornada Experimental Range) and Dr. Ariel Lugo (Luquillo LTER, USDA-FS Luquillo Experimental Forest) to support the collection and analysis of long-term ecological datasets. The project is a large synthesis effort focused on improving the accessibility and use of long-term data. At present, there are ~50 state and federally funded research sites that are participating and contributing to the EcoTrends project, including all 26 Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) sites and sites funded by the USDA Agriculture Research Service (ARS), USDA Forest Service, US Department of Energy, US Geological Survey (USGS) and numerous universities. Data from the EcoTrends project are available through an exploratory web portal (http://www.ecotrends.info). This web portal enables the continuation of data compilation and accessibility by users through an interactive web application. Ongoing data compilation is updated through both manual and automatic processing as part of the LTER Provenance Aware Synthesis Tracking Architecture (PASTA). The web portal is a collaboration between the Jornada LTER and the LTER Network Office. The following dataset from Crossett Experimental Forest (CRO) contains production of sound seeds by pines measurements in numberPerHectare units and were aggregated to a yearly timescale.

McMurdo Sound, Antarctica: Cape Armitage, sponge abundance and cover and photo ID information for 1968 and 2010
In 2010 we had the opportunity to revisit historical transects and experiments set up by Dayton et al. in the 1960s, 70s, and 80s. Using the SCINI ROV we were able to revisit sites we had dived previously, including some deeper sites that are no longer diveable by current United States Antarctic Program policies. Revisiting these sites enabled us to study and document long-term changes in benthic biota at McMurdo Sound, Antarctica. These are data on sponge abundance and percent cover collected in 1968 and 2010. We are making these data available to researchers for future observations of community change in the nearly pristine environment of the Ross Sea, Antarctica.

Bottom sediment, chlorophyll and pheophytin survey Plum Island Sound, Massachusetts, September 10 - 15, 2010
Tidal bars and tidal flats in shallow, mesotidal estuaries are subject to the action of tidal currents and waves. This complex forcing gives rise to large variations in bottom sediments and related benthic ecosystems. In this research we study the spatial relationships among tidal currents, waves, sediment characteristics, chlorophyll a, and pheophytin in the shallow bars and flats of Plum Island Sound, Massachusetts, USA. Waves and tides have a mild effect on the sand grain size and percent of silt and mud of these shallow deposits. Average wave conditions are more important than extreme events, like Nor’easters, in sediment sorting. The spatial distribution of pheophytin, an indicator of dead microphytobenthos, mimics that of silt and mud whereas chlorophyll a, a proxy for the live microphytobenthos stock, is greatest in sandy areas characterized by intermediate values of tidal velocity.Tidal currents and waves were computed using the numerical model Delf3D.-SWAN. We present high-resolution field measurements of five sites along the United States Atlantic Coast, and cellular automata simulations, to investigate the erosion of marsh boundaries by wave action. According to our analysis, when salt marshes are exposed to high wave energy conditions their boundaries erode uniformly. The resulting erosion events follow a Gaussian distribution, yielding a relatively smooth shoreline. On the contrary, when wind waves are weak and the local marsh resistance is strong, jagged marsh boundaries form. In this case, erosion episodes have a long-tailed frequency magnitude distribution with numerous low-magnitude events, but also high-magnitude episodes. The logarithmic frequency magnitude distribution suggests the emergence of a critical state for marsh boundaries, which would make the prediction of failure events impossible. Internal physical processes allowing salt marshes to reach this critical state are geotechnical and biological, and related to the nonhomogeneity of salt marshes whose material discontinuities act as stress raisers.

This is a seven-category land-cover map of the Plum Island Sound estuary, Massachusetts. The seven categories are: water, tidal flats and soils, Spartina alterniflora, Spartina patens, trees, grass, impervious surface. These medium resolution true color images are considered the new "basemap" for the Commonwealth by MassGIS. The photography for the entire commonwealth was captured in April 2005 when deciduous trees were mostly bare and the ground was generally free of snow. Image type is 4-band (RGBN) natural color (Red, Green, Blue) and Near infrared in 8 bits (values ranging 0-255) per band format.

Fine scale DEM was generated by using Terrasolid’s TerraScan Lidar processing software, based on airborne LiDAR data collected on April 19th to 25th, 2005; then a toolbox ArcHydro in the software ArcGIS is used to extract stream network from the DEM data.

Pseudo-Soundings for Publication "Changes in the simulation of instability indices over the Iberian Peninsula due to the use of 3DVAR data assimilation"
<p>These data are made available as part of paper: S. J. González-Rojí, S. Carreno-Madinabeitia, J. Sáenz, and G. Ibarra-Berastegi (2021) "Changes in the simulation of atmospheric instability over the Iberian Peninsula due to the use of 3DVAR data assimilation", published in <em>Hydrology and Earth System Sciences (HESS) (</em><a href="https://doi.org/10.5194/hess-25-3471-2021">https://doi.org/10.5194/hess-25-3471-2021</a><em>)</em>. The dataset holds selected postprocessed files that allow to reproduce all the results in the paper.</p> <p>Two WRF experiments nested in ERA-Interim were prepared. The first one (N) was configured as in standard numerical downscaling experiments. The second one (D), with the same parameterizations, included a step of 3DVAR data assimilation every 6 hours. The original experiments covered period 2010-2014 after a year of spin-up (2019). </p> <p>The following files are included:</p> <p>- PseudoSoundings_EXP_YYYY: Contains the Pressure, Temperature and Mixing Ratio on each point included in the mask defined for the Iberian Peninsula. The values of each model level are included. The values at 00 and 12 UTC are included. </p> <p>- ListPointsWRF.txt: Provides the order followed in the nPoints dimension of the nc files.
