<p>Dataset containing data on abundance, distribution, composition and sources of marine litter (macrolitter and microplastics) along the East Pacific region, generated by reviewing all the peer-reviewed literature published for the region until December 2023. The results of this literature review are presented in the manuscript "Macrolitter and microplastics along the East Pacific coasts – a homemade problem needing local solutions".</p> <p>All the data extracted from the literature are included in the sheets "MacroData" and "MicroData", corresponding to "macrolitter" and "microplastic" studies, respectively. The sheet "Legend_MacroData&MicroData" contains the metadata for the sheets "MacroData" and "MicroData". All the remaining sheets contain the data utilized for the elaboration of the graphs and figures presented in the manuscript.</p>

Contents, Format, and Reader Interactions with Middle English Practical Manuscripts, ca. 1375–1500
<p>These three .csv files contain datasets intended to supplement the book, <em><a href="https://press.uchicago.edu/ucp/books/book/chicago/R/bo222256991.html">Reading Practice: The Pursuit of Natural Knowledge from Manuscript to Print</a> </em>(University of Chicago Press, 2024). They convey information on 182 Middle English "practical" manuscripts created between ca. 1375 and 1500. Practical manuscripts are defined as manuscripts written entirely (or nearly so) in Middle English containing contents entirely (or nearly so) related to medicine and practical science, like agriculture, animal husbandry, and craft manufacture.</p> <p>To identify these 182 manuscripts, I first searched the Voigts-Kurtz database of <a href="https://cctr1.umkc.edu/search" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><em>Medical and Scientific Writings in Middle English</em></a>, compiled over several decades by Linda Ehrsam Voigts and Patricia Deery Kurtz and now containing data on more than 1200 manuscripts containing Middle English medical or scientific texts. After identifying promising manuscripts in the Voigts-Kurtz database, I followed this initial search with consultations of manuscript catalogues for the Beinecke Library, Yale University; Bodleian Library, University of Oxford; British Library, London; Cambridge University Library, Cambridge; Henry E. Huntington Library, San Marino, CA; Morgan Library, New York; National Library of Medicine, Bethesda, MD; Trinity College Cambridge Library, Cambridge; University of Glasgow Library, Glasgow; and Wellcome Library, London. In addition to identifying manuscripts not cited in the Voigts-Kurtz database, these catalogue searches enabled me to weed out manuscripts that contained too much Latin for my purposes or those that contained just a small section of medicine and science and were otherwise devoted to literature, law, religion, or other texts. <br><br>From these searches, I identified over 300 fifteenth-century manuscripts that I hoped would <br>reveal how English lay people thought of books as tools for collecting and utilizing knowledge<br>related to day-to-day medical practice, agriculture, or husbandry. However, I couldn't ascertain <br>if the manuscripts I had identified were the sort of book that a non-elite person might own<br>until I made research trips to the libraries and archives that held them. I was fortunate <br>to begin this project at the same time that many libraries in the U.K. were changing their <br>policies in regards to digital photography. As a result, I was able to photograph scores of <br>manuscripts in a single trip, which I then analyzed and catalogued in my database over the <br>following months. These research trips, conducted over summers and academic holidays between <br>2014 and 2021, enabled me to whittle down my initial corpus of over 300 potential "practical manuscripts" <br>to the 182 manuscripts analyzed in <em>Reading Practice</em> and described in these appendices. Part of this<br>process entailed identifying fifteenth-century manuscripts that had been bound into composite volumes<br>by later collectors. These once-separate manuscripts are counted individually in my corpus, and their <br>folio numbers in those composite volumes are noted in the spreadsheet below.</p> <p>The "Manuscript Attributes" .csv file contains the following information on each of these 182 vernacular manuscripts:</p> <ul> <li>Shelfmark</li> <li>Archive/library</li> <li>Approximate date of creation</li> <li>Writing support (paper or parchment)</li> <li>Number of folios (and folio numbers, for composite manuscripts)</li> <li>Size in mm</li> <li>Quality of scribal hand</li> <li>Information on contents</li> <li>Information on reader marks</li> <li>Information on reader cancellations or censorship</li> <li>URL for digital facsimile, if available</li> </ul> <p>The contents field of the "Manuscript Attributes" .csv file indicates whether the manuscript contains texts in the following genres, and which texts those are, if readily identifiable:</p> <ul> <li>Illustrations</li> <li>Medical recipes</li> <li>Herbals</li> <li>Charms</li> <li>Medical treatises</li> <li>Treatises on phlebotomy</li> <li>Reproductive recipes</li> <li>Uroscopy texts</li> <li>Surgical texts or surgical recipes</li> <li>Craft recipes</li> <li>Dietaries or health regimens</li> <li>Plague treatises</li> <li>Prognostications</li> <li>Texts on weights and measures</li> <li>Texts on animal husbandry</li> <li>Texts on planting, grafting, or gardening</li> <li>Texts on hawking, hunting, or fishing</li> <li>Almanacs</li> <li>Treatises on astrology</li> <li>Culinary recipes</li> </ul> <p>The "Reader Marks" .csv file contains transcriptions of every reader mark in a fifteenth-<br>century practical manuscript that I could attribute to a reader or which could be dated <br>definitively. In addition, the spreadsheet contains notes about other reader and scribal additions,<br>like added recipes or indices. I note the location of these marks and indicate<br>whether they were made in the fifteenth (XV), sixteenth (XVI), or seventeenth (XVII)<br>centuries. In total, the spreadsheet contains notes or transcriptions of over 500 separate<br>instances of reader interactions with practical manuscripts.</p> <p>The "Cancellations" .csv file contains information about which manuscripts feature censorship of any kind and what sorts of material was censored or cancelled.</p>

<p>This repository contains model data accompanying the manuscript:</p> <p>Udara Amarathunga, Eelco J. Rohling, Katharine M. Grant, Alexander Francke, James Latimer, Robert M. Klaebe, David Heslop, Andrew P. Roberts and David K. Hutchinson, 2024: <strong>Mid-Pliocene glaciation preceded by a 0.5-million-year North African humid period</strong>, <em>Nature Geoscience</em>, <a href="https://doi.org/10.1038/s41561-024-01472-8">10.1038/s41561-024-01472-8</a> </p> <p>There are three main folders:</p> <ul> <li><strong>inputs.tgz</strong>: containing input files for each simulation</li> <li><strong>outputs.tgz</strong>: containing model outputs (as shown in the manuscript)</li> <li><strong>restarts.tgz</strong>: containing restart file bundles for the end of each simulation.</li> </ul> <p>There are three experiments, as described in the manuscript. Dataset for the manuscript "Amapari Marker Band Metal-Enrichments: Potential Mechanisms and Implications for Surface and Subsurface Water and Weathering in Gale crater"
<p>The dataset for the main manuscript contains three CSV files: list of long distance remote micro images (LDRMIs), the ChemCam chemical data, and the alpha particle X ray spectrometer (APXS) chemical data. The LDRMI csv lists two sets of data, one for the sol (Mars solar day), sequence identifier, and target name of LDRMIs that target the Amapari Marker Band (AMB). These are represented as green points on manuscript Figure 1. The second list are for LDRMI images that did not specifically target the AMB, but contain the AMB, and these are orange points on manuscript Figure 1. The ChemCam data file has metadata for each observation point in a ChemCam target: file name, spacecraft clock, observation number, stratigraphic member, rock type, target distance, and total of all spectral channels. Chemical information includes: the oxide chemistry (oxide wt%), uncertainty (RMSEP accuracy and shot-to-shot precision), minor element quantification, and minor element uncertainty (ppm), preliminary sulfate composition (without uncertainty and only provided up to sol 3778), peak areas for some elements (Cu, Zn, and Cr). The oxide sum includes all oxides and elements for which we have quantitative data. Spectral unmixing qualitative values are listed for each element. Derived data includes the corrected MgO, Na<sub>2</sub>O, and CaO in both mol and oxide wt% (values before and after correction are provided), and the calculated alteration index. Derived data is only calculated for AMB bedrock targets (does not include veins or mixed vein-rock targets with elevated CaO). The APXS data sheet provides sol, target name, oxide data, and uncertainties for the drill tailings observations, and the derived data for each target.</p>

<p>There are two datasets provided in this excel file. The data are flavonoid abundances of Argentina anserina [=Potentilla anserina] exposed to two levels of ultraviolet light in a greenhouse. The "leaf only data" tab has the combined foliar abundances of the major classes of flavonoids detected: chalcone, flavonone, flavone, flavonol, flavon-3-ol, and proanthocyanidin. This dataset was used to analyze the effect of UV treatment and elevation on flavonoid production in leaves. The "leaf and petal matching cmpnds" is the abundance of the major flavonoid classes in leaves and petals for only the compounds that were detected in both tissue types. This dataset was used for all analyses that related leaf flavonoids with petal flavonoids and petal UV pigmentation. </p>

<p>This dataset belongs to the manuscript of Wagner and Schepanski (2024) entitled "Quantifying fire-driven dust emissions using a global aerosol model" submitted to the "Journal of Advances in Modeling Earth Systems (JAMES)".</p> <p>It contains the for the 10 year simulation period 2004-2013 the monthly, seasonal, or yearly averaged fields of the variables (variable name in brackets) that were used to prepare the plots and statements made in the manuscript. These are in detail:</p> <ol> <li>GFAS input data of FRP (frp)</li> <li>simulated AOD (tau_2d_550nm) and dust AOD (tau_comp_du_550nm)</li> <li>simulated wind-driven (emi_du_dust) and fire-driven (emi_du_fdust) dust emission fluxes</li> <li>simulated atmospheric dust concentration (du_all) including the soluble/insoluble coarse (du_ci, du_cs) and accumulation (du_ai, du_as) mode together with vertical atmospheric pressure levels (pfull)</li> </ol> <p>The simulated results are provided for both simulations, the <strong>control run</strong> without the additional fire-dust emissions and the actual <strong>firedust simulation</strong> with the new fire-dust emission parameterization.</p>
