Supporting CESM output for "The effect of plant physiological responses to rising CO2 on global streamflow" (Fowler et al.; 2019)

<p>Thirty years of CESM soil moisture, rain, and snow data is collected here based on each experiment contained within Fowler et al. (2019). These data were used to produce Figure 3 of that work.&nbsp;Other supporting data including daily runoff and river discharge is archived elsewhere, while analysis scripts and more information can be found here:&nbsp;https://github.com/megandevlan/Physiology-Streamflow.git.&nbsp;</p>

Climate Reanalyses Data from CESM-MSHea-CDA and CM2-MSHea-CDA systems

<p>We&nbsp;apply&nbsp;an identical coupled data assimilation algorithm and effective model error relaxing scheme to two widely-used IPCC coupled models, CESM and CM2, to establish two coupled data assimilation (CDA) systems. Then we use both CDA systems to assimilate historical atmospheric and oceanic observations to form two sets of climate reanalyses for the past four decades. Manuscript is written to report our efforts on convergent Climate Reanalysis, which is prepared to sumitted to&nbsp;<em>Journal of Climate.&nbsp;</em>Here we upload the mainly data of our reanalysis experiments.</p>

CESM coupled simulation dataset with new (Mod_cp) and original (F09) dynamical coupling scheme from atmosphere, ocean and ice.

<p>1. Coupled models simulate air-sea interaction by coupling components models together. However, in state-of-the-art models such as CESM, the atmospheric model contains dynamic core and physic parameterization that are not differentiated during air-sea interaction. The dynamics-physics (D-P) coupling in CAM causes the prognostic winds of the dynamic core be interpolated onto non-staggered locations. We propose a new dynamical coupling scheme (denoted as Mod_cp) that eliminates the extra interpolation during D-P coupling for the atmosphere-ocean interaction, reducing the numerical diffusion during the dynamics-physics coupling for air-sea interactions.</p> <p>2. Using new and original dynamical coupling scheme, two coupled simulations &nbsp;(100 years) were conducted. Climatology of atmosphere (cam), ocean (ocn) and sea ice (ice) model simulations are archived here (last 50 years). The &nbsp;resolution is around 1 latitude x 1 longitude.</p> <p>3. B1850_mod_cp denotes the simulation with new dynamical coupling scheme, B1850_f09_g16 denotes the simulation with original scheme.</p>

A large ensemble of spatially and annually averaged CESM CAM 100-year data

This repository contains data from an ensemble of 100-year runs on the Cheyenne computer at NCAR. The purpose of this data set is to allow an investigation of how different variables are affected by software and hardware modifications at different time scales. The data was produced by a CESM 1.3 series tag using the CAM5 model version described in Kay et al. (2015). The simulations are CESM startup runs using a present-day F compset (active atmosphere and land, data ocean, and prescribed ice concentration), CAM5 physics at approximately 1 degree latitude/longitude resolution, and the spectral element dynamical core. The output contains CAM data from 147 simulations each with a 100-year time series (100 time points) of 134 variables. Of the 147 runs, 139 are control runs that differ only by an order double precision perturbation to the initial temperature, where 114 were from an Intel compilation and 25 from a GNU compilation. The remaining 8 runs are so-called test runs, each with a single modification (e.g., single parameter, compiler, minor code change) changed relative to the control runs. The simulations originally output monthly data. The modestly sized dataset released here is a result of annually averaging the monthly files, and then spatially averaging the annual averages over the grid. Each of the 147 NetCDF files corresponding to a single simulation contains the variable names and a matrix of 100 years of annual averages for each variable.

CESM ISMIP6 Forcing Data

<div> <p>The Community Earth System Model (CESM) version 2.1 is a world-class coupled climate system model that includes components for the atmosphere, ocean, terrestrial system, river run-off, and fully active glaciers (Danabasoglu et al. 2020). This version of CESM was used in many experiments as part of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project 6 (CMIP6, Eyring et al. (2016)) including the Ice Sheet Model Inter-comparison Project 6 (ISMIP6).</p> <p>These data come from historical simulations (1950&ndash;2014) and future projections (2015&ndash;2100) using the fully-coupled earth system model, including an active ice sheet model (the Community Ice Sheet Model, or CISM, Lipscomb et al. (2019)) with feedbacks to the atmosphere, land, and oceans. We have provided data from these two transient experiments to the community through Ghub for analysis and to force uncoupled ice sheet models.</p> <p><u><strong>Downloading the Data</strong></u></p> <p><strong><a href="https://theghub.org/resources?id=4761">The data can be downloaded from the GHub.</a> Please log in and&nbsp;click on the Download tab to receive the Download instructions.</strong>For more information on how to obtain data from GHub visit <a href="https://theghub.org/accessing-data-with-globus" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Accessing Data</a> web page.
