<p>There are three files: control, EP and noEP. Each file contains dimensions latitude, longitude and year. Each file contains variables absolute vorticity (avor), genesis potential index (gpi), relative humidity (rh), vertical stratification (tz), potential intensity (vpot), and vertical wind shear (vws). CESM2 cloud locking suite multi-level fields for FLOCK simulation
<p>Selected multi-level Community Atmosphere Model version 6 (CAM6) fields from the FLOCK simulation of the Community Earth System Model version 2.0.1 (CESM2). The simulation is labeled "FLOCK" in the GRL manuscript but has a native case name of "F1850JJB_c201_CLOCK" in the file names. FLOCK is forced by prescribed pre-industrial atmospheric composition, and monthly mean sea-surface temperatures and sea ice concentrations taken from an existing pre-industrial fully coupled simulation ("CTL"). Cloud properties seen by the radiation scheme are prescribed ("locked") and are sourced from randomly selected years of a 3-year data pool comprised of Years 20-22 of CTL.</p>

CESM2 COVID and 2019/20 Australian Wildfire Simulations
These simulations comprise three ensembles spanning 2019-2024. The ensembles include 50 members forced with 1) SSP245 climate forcings, 2) SSP245 combined with estimated COVID-related emissions reductions, and 3) SSP245 combined with estimated COVID-related emissions reductions and emissions from Australia's 2019-20 bushfire season.
CESM2 and E3SM variables used for diagnosing westerly wind events
<p>This data set contains variables needed to identify and evaluate westerly wind events (WWEs) in a simulation using the Community Earth System Model version 2 (CESM2) and a simulation using the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM). The CESM2 simulation was a historical run from 1980–1999 that was restarted from the CMIP6 historical simulation. The E3SM was a 400-year pre-industrial simulation from which we analyzed the last 39 years. Only those last 39 years are included in the E3SM files. </p> <p>For both the CESM2 and E3SM simulations, meridionally-averaged zonal wind stress from 2.5°S – 2.5°N filtered from 5–90 days was used to identify westerly wind events in the Pacific Ocean (120°E – 280°E). Events were defined as patches of zonal wind stress in the time-longitude plane with zonal wind stress values of 0.04 Nm<sup>-2</sup> or larger that lasted at least 5 days and were at least 10° longitude long. Meridional wind stress was also used along with the zonal wind stress to make spatiotemporal composite wind-stress vectors across all WWEs for each model. Outgoing longwave radiation (OLR) was also used as a proxy for convection. Again spatiotemporal composites were made of OLR centered on WWEs for each model. Finally, 1000-mb zonal wind speed was used to determine if WWEs defined by 5-90 day filtered zonal wind stress actually correspond to unfiltered westerly wind speeds.</p> <p>These simulations were part of a larger set of simulations used to evalute the fidelity of WWEs in CMIP6 simulations through a variety of model diagnostics. WWEs are important to air-sea feedbacks as they can initiate ocean Kelvin waves that then propagate eastward altering the thermodynamic structure of the upper ocean. Most importantly, these WWE-generated Kelvin waves can play an important role in El Nino Southern Oscillation dynamics.</p>

ATom: CAM-chem/CESM2 Model Outputs Along Flight Tracks, 2016-2018
This dataset contains CAM-chem (Community Atmosphere Model with Chemistry) model outputs along ATom flight tracks. CAM-chem is a component of the Community Earth System Model Version 2 (CESM2) and is used for simulations of global tropospheric and stratospheric atmospheric composition and for studies of chemistry-climate interactions. In general, CAM-chem uses the MOZART chemical mechanism, with various choices of complexity for tropospheric and stratospheric chemistry. For this dataset, CAM-chem used the MOZART-TS1 chemical mechanism, and the model was nudged to reanalysis meteorology from MERRA2.

<p>Included in this repository is CESM2(WACCM6) Earth system prediction framework forecast output necessary to replicate the results of "Delayed surface impacts of the January 2021 sudden stratospheric warming".</p> <p>Standard forecast output is formatted as "ssfcst_ddMMM", where ddMMM is either 04jan or 08feb.</p> <p>Forecasts initialized January 4th, 2021 with scrambled initial conditions are formatted as: "15to20kmRampBot_", for scrambled tropospheric initial conditions; "9to12kmRamp_" for scrambled stratospheric initial conditions; and "2017noSSW_" for scrambled atmospheric initial conditions started from a January 2017 atmospheric restart.</p> <p>The forecast initialized February 8th, 2021 with scrambled tropospheric initial conditions is formatted "15to20kmRampBot_update_".</p> <p>Forecasts initialized February 1st and 8th, 2021, with scrambled stratospheric initial conditions are formatted "9to12kmRamp_updated_".</p> <p>All files contain relevant dimensions. "mXX", where XX is between 0 and 20, denotes the forecast member. Geopotential height is in the "Z3" files, surface temperature is in the "tas" files, and zonal mean zonal wind and tropopause pressure are in the "h2" files.</p>
