Tree regeneration after fire: Effects of burn severity, Delta soil analysis
This study examines the effects of burn severity on patterns of post-fire tree establishment in the boreal forest. We collected data from 5 separate field experiments examining seedling establishment across different severity levels in 4 burns in central Yukon Territory, Canada, and interior Alaska, USA. The experimental studies focus on the germination, survival, and growth responses of four common tree species, trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides), lodgepole pine (Pinus contorta), white spruce (Picea glauca) and black spruce (Picea mariana). Data on the soil organic layer (depth, moisture, bulk density, pH) were also collected at each site. This file contains more detailed data from organic and mineral soil measurements made in the Delta 99 burn. Note that the file format differs from the CPCRW soil datafile. Information on warming manipulation plots at the Delta site are included here. Measurements of soil organic layer depth, wet weight, dry weight, %moisture, and pH are included for 4 sample dates. Some data are available only for one or two sample dates. Samples were taken with a 5-cm hand corer, except in 2001, where a 2-cm diameter corer was used. An additional line is included which give the full species names associated with the 6-letter codes used as column headers.
Seasonal high-frequency measurements of discharge, water temperature, and specific conductivity from Delta Stream at F10, McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica (1990-2023, ongoing)
As part of the Long Term Ecological Research (LTER) project in the McMurdo Dry Valleys of Antarctica, a systematic sampling program has been undertaken to monitor the glacial meltwater streams in that region. This package contains data pertaining to continuous monitored water quality and quantity parameters measured with automatic recording devices on streams in this region. Specifically, this metadata record describes the hydrology data set for the McMurdo Dry Valleys' Delta Stream at the F10 streamgage, located in the Fryxell Basin of Taylor Valley. Measurements commenced during the 1990-91 season and are ongoing. This dataset extends through the first half of the 2022-23 field season.

Measurements commenced during the 1990-91 austral summer and are ongoing. This dataset extends through the first half of the 2022-23 field season.

Let the giants be named - Taxonomic description database for the isopod genus Bathynomus for the DELTA system
<p><span>Morphological characters have been extracted from recent relevant literature on <em>Bathynomus</em>, mainly from the six previously known species from the Atlantic Ocean and gulf of Mexico </span><span>(Magalhães and Young 2003; Lowry and Dempsey 2006; Shipley et al. 2016; Huang et al. 2022)</span><span>. To simultaneously maximize compactness and taxonomic value of the species description, mainly characters that have previously been interpreted as diagnostic at the species level have been included, omitting others which played no role in species delimitation. A taxonomic database has been newly set up using DELTA </span><span>(Dallwitz 1980, 1993; Dallwitz et al. 2006)</span><span>. Character states for all presently known Atlantic congeners have been scored to generate a natural language description and a new identification key </span><span>(Dallwitz 1974)</span><span> for the region as well as a species diagnosis. The species diagnosis has been composed based on the characters used in the identification key.</span></p> <p> </p>
The state of the lower Volta Delta Beaches in Ghana from field observations.
<p>The continuous collection of data is important, particularly for developing models for local applications. It is also important to collect in situ data in this observation scarce region to improve our understanding of coastal evolution. The data presented here were planned and collected along a 90 km coastline. The experiment holds significant scientific value as it marks the first comprehensive data-gathering effort along the Volta Delta within the Bight of Benin, West Africa. Several projects, decision-makers, and scientists will make use of this data to calibrate their models. The study was executed in 2023, and it provides a comprehensive description of the morphodynamical characteristics of the study area and identifies the factors influencing the changes. The data include nearshore and riverine bathymetry, topography, sediment grain size distribution, and waves in the study area. The research experiment provides a foundation for future extensive and long-term investigations along the LVD and promotes localized investigations. </p>

Salinity, Turbidity, Wind from the S1-GB pylon at the LTER site Delta del Po and Costa Romagnola (2012-2021)
<p>The present database comprises observations spanning from 2012 to 2021, focusing on abiotic parameters collected from the S1-GB dynamic pylon, in the Northern Adriatic Sea (around 7 miles offshore within the Po Delta on a bottom depth of 22.5 m), Italy. Specifically, it encompasses measurements on atmospheric parameters above the water surface and measurements at a defined depth (https://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P01/current/ADEPZZ01/) of salinity (URI: https://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/OD1/current/SAL/) in PSU (Practical Salinity Units), turbidity (URI: http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P25/current/TURB/) in NTU (Nephelometric Turbidity Units; http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P06/current/USTU/), wind speed (URI: http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P25/current/WINDS/) in m/s (meters per second; http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P06/current/PMPS/), and wind from direction (URI: http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/standard_name/wind_from_direction/) in degrees (angular degrees, 0 represents the true north; http://vocab.nerc.ac.uk/collection/P06/current/UAAA/). The S1-GB pylon is situated at 44,74° N; 12,45° E (WGS-84 coordinate system) and is managed by the Institute of Marine Science of the National Research Council (ISMAR-CNR) in Bologna. The dataset relies on a Comma Separated Values (CSV) file and it is composed by 82391 records offering an invaluable insight into the dynamic characteristics of the marine environment over nearly a decade. The S1-GB pylon is part of the site “Delta del Po and Costa Romagnola”, which belongs to the Long Term Ecological Research national and international networks (LTER-Italy, LTER-Europe and ILTER) and eLTER-RI. The site contributes also to the DANUBIUS and JERICO Research Infrastructures.</p>

Divergent geographic patterns and functional characteristics: Subtle mapping for ponds in the Yangtze River Delta Region
<p>Pond water surfaces (PWS) possess diverse functional types, such as aquaculture, agriculture-water supplement, and ecosystem regulation. However, existing research often treats PWS as a homogeneous aquatic ecosystem; the absence of a comprehensive PWS classification system hinders ours understanding of PWS background characteristics and is detrimental to watershed management. Here, a comprehensive classification system of PWS, including fish aquaculture ponds (FAP), shrimp and crab aquaculture ponds (SCAP), natural ponds (NP), and landscaping ponds (LP) was proposed from remote sensing perspectives. Additionally, interpretation rules were standardized from multi-features including spectrum, shape, topography, and surrounding geographical environments. Subsequently, refined spatiotemporal data product of PWS in the Yangtze River Delta from 2016 to 2022 was generated using Sentinel-2 images with 10 m spatial resolutions. The results indicate that: (1) The spatiotemporal changes exhibited three stages, i.e., “declining – stable – recovery.” The area of PWS decreased from 5186.52 km² to 4920.90 km²in 2016-2017, stabilized at approximately 4500 km² in 2019-2021, and then rebounded to 4834.12 km² in 2022. (2) Regarding different PWS functional types, significant differences were demonstrated in terms of area, surrounding environment, and spatiotemporal changes. Firstly, FAP dominated in terms of area, accounting for 47.81% of the total. Secondly, FAP was widely around rivers and lakes. At the same time, SCAP was concentrated around lakes or along the coast, LP was primarily found in urban areas, and NP was predominantly found in rural areas and mountainous regions; Thirdly, NP decreased as land remediation work progressed continuously, while LP increased due to policy support for urban renewal. Changes in aquaculture were more complex, experiencing a sharp decline from 2016 to 2020 due to reduced market demand but rebounded in 2021-2022 with supportive policies. In summary, the system and data products developed in this study reveal the diverse relationships of "functional type-geographical environment-driving factor" regarding PWS, implicating appropriate planning for aquatic ecosystem.</p>
Benthic diatoms of the Ebro Delta coastal wetlands (NW Mediterranean)
<p>This dataset includes 24 sites encompassing diatom counts and associated water chemistry parameters from wide range of wetland habitat types (coastal lagoons, salt and brackish marshes, shallow bays, microbial mats and nearshore marine waters) from the Ebro Delta (Spain). Diatom data represents sediment surface samples collected over three seasons (winter, spring and summer) from 2012-2013 years.
