Global dataset for evaluating impact of topographic factors on hydrologic response to climate variability

<p>The dataset contained here was used to document the biomes in the world that show high sensitivity in their hydrologic response to interannual changes in climatic forcing during the 2001-2016 period, while evaluating the role of major topoclimatic factors in modulating these responses. To do this we generated a hydrologic sensitivity index (HSi). HSi evaluates the absolute ratio between the changes of the climatic conditions (dryness index, DI) and hydrologic response (evaporative index, EI<sub>R</sub>) between consecutive years (e.g. HSi= |∆ EI<sub>R</sub> /∆ DI|). HSi was computed for every successive pair of years from 2001 to 2016. &nbsp;A total of 15 HSi maps were obtained representing the HSi for each consecutive pair of years.&nbsp; For each map, where HSi &gt;1, regions are classified as <strong><em>Sensitive</em></strong> and for HSi &le;1, <strong><em>Resilient</em></strong>. To provide a synthesis of the general trend of global hydrologic sensitivity, we display the frequency of HSi, showing the recurrence of HSi &gt;1 for every non-ocean location with a range of 0 (low frequency) to 15 (high frequency). Regions where frequency HSi&ge;7 are considered highly recurring and as such are deemed as the most hydrologically sensitive.&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>This dataset includes the code and raster data to evaluate the effect of the topography on HSi to&nbsp;plot the average frequency HSi for all elevations, aspects, and slope steepness against&nbsp; latitudinal change.</strong> We used global digital elevation models (DEMS) from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission&nbsp;(SRTM) data (90 m resolution; version 4, for latitudes &lt; 60◦ N and GTOPO30 (1◦ resolution; http://lta.cr.usgs.gov/GTOPO30) for latitudes &gt; 60◦ N. Slope and aspect maps were derived from the DEMs using standard GIS-based methods in ArcMap 10.7.Elevation range used is [0,7000] meters above sea level (m.a.s.l), aspect (N, NE, E, SE, S, SW, W, NW) specifically above slope values greater than 10-degrees (no flat areas used), and slope [0,90] degrees.</p> <p><strong>Contents:</strong></p> <ul> <li>1 MATLAB with the code ready to use</li> <li>1 PDF file with the same code</li> <li>27 geotiff files for elevation (dem#1-27.tif)</li> <li>27 geotiff files for frequency HSi (freq#1-27.tif)&nbsp;</li> </ul> <p>Note: the following&nbsp;files of slope and aspect could not upload in repository due to exceedance in storage limit: 50MG. Inhibition of striatal dopamine release by the L-type calcium channel inhibitor isradipine co-varies with risk factors for Parkinson's

<h3><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></h3> <p>Ca<sup>2+</sup> entry into nigrostriatal dopamine (DA) neurons and axons via L-type voltage-gated Ca<sup>2+</sup> channels (LTCCs) contributes respectively to pacemaker activity and DA release, and has long been thought to contribute to vulnerability to degeneration in Parkinson&rsquo;s disease. LTCC function is greater in DA axons and neurons from substantia nigra pars compacta than from ventral tegmental area, but this is not explained by channel expression level. We tested the hypothesis that LTCC-control of DA release is governed rather by local mechanisms, focussing on candidate biological factors known to operate differently between types of DA neurons and/or be associated with their differing vulnerability to parkinsonism, including biological sex, &alpha;-synuclein, DA transporters (DATs), and calbindin-D28k (Calb1). We detected evoked DA release <em>ex vivo </em>in mouse striatal slices using fast-scan cyclic voltammetry, and assessed LTCC support of DA release by detecting the inhibition of DA release by the LTCC inhibitors isradipine or CP8. Using genetic knockouts or pharmacological manipulations we identified that striatal LTCC support of DA release depended on multiple intersecting factors, in a regionally and sexually divergent manner. LTCC function was promoted by factors associated with Parkinsonian risk, including male sex, &alpha;-synuclein, DAT, and a dorsolateral co-ordinate, but limited by factors associated with protection i.e. female sex, glucocerebrosidase activity, Calb1, and ventromedial co-ordinate. Genomic Typing, Antimicrobial Resistance Gene, Virulence Factor and Plasmid Replicon Dataset for the Important Pathogenic Bacteria Klebsiella pneumoniae

<p>The infections caused by various bacterial pathogens both in clinical and community settings represent a significant threat to public healthcare worldwide. The growing resistance to antimicrobial drugs acquired by bacterial species causing healthcare-associated infections has already become a life-threatening danger noticed by the World Health Organization. Several groups or lineages of bacterial isolates usually called 'the clones of high risk' often drive the spread of resistance within particular species.&nbsp;</p> <p>Thus, it is vitally important to reveal and track the spread of such clones and the mechanisms by which they acquire antibiotic resistance and enhance their survival skills. Currently, the analysis of whole genome sequences for bacterial isolates of interest is increasingly used for these purposes, including epidemiological surveillance and developing of spread prevention measures. However, the availability and uniformity of the data derived from the genomic sequences often represents a bottleneck for such investigations.&nbsp;</p> <p>In this dataset, we present the results of a genomic epidemiology analysis of 61,857 genomes of a dangerous bacterial pathogen&nbsp;<em>Klebsiella pneumoniae</em> obtained from NCBI Genbank database. Important typing information including multilocus sequence typing (MLST)-based sequence types (STs), capsular (KL) and oligosaccharide (OL) types, CRISPR-Cas systems, and cgMLST profiles are presented, as well as the assignment of particular isolates to clonal groups (CG). The presence of antimicrobial resistance and virulence genes, as well as plasmid replicons, within the genomes is also reported.&nbsp;</p> <p>These data will be useful for researchers in the field of <em>K. pneumoniae</em> genomic epidemiology, resistance analysis and prevention measure development.</p>

Data associated with the article 'Intervention factors associated with efficacy, when targeting oral language comprehension of children with or at risk for (Developmental) Language Disorder: A meta-analysis'

<p>The efficacy of oral language comprehension interventions varies, but the reasons for this variation have received little attention. A meta-analysis was conducted to examine intervention factors associated with the efficacy (as expressed with effect sizes) of oral language comprehension interventions in children under the age of 18 with or at risk for (Developmental) Language Disorder, (D)LD.</p> <p>The meta-analysis article together with this additional material comprise the content needed for a thorough understanding and replication of the results.</p> <p>This dataset is based on two systematic scoping reviews on oral language comprehension interventions (Tarvainen et al., 2020, 2021). <p>The datesets refer to the article &quot;Experimental Procedures &amp; First Results of an Innovative Solid Oxide Fuel Cell Test Rig: Parametric Analysis and Stability Test&quot; (https://zenodo.org/badge/DOI/10.5281/zenodo.5763507.svg).</p> <p>Solid Oxide Fuel Cells are a promising technology for Solid Oxide Fuel Cells (SOFC) are a promising technology For high-efficiency electrochemical conversion of a vast range of fuel gas mixtures, thigh operating temperature conditions (650&ndash;900 ◦C) represent a challenge both at system level and at laboratory testing level, in terms of material properties and performance dynamics. In this work a detailed procedural analysis is presented for an innovative all-ceramic compact SOFC test rig and first experimental testing results are reported in terms of polarization curves obtained under parametric variation of operating conditions (H2 content, air ratio &lambda; and temperature) and short-term voltage stability test under load (140 h at 0.3 A/cm2 ). The electrochemical characterization results confirm the validity of the used all-ceramic cell holder, showing excellent cell performances in terms of polarization. H2 content has the most impact on SOFC performance, followed by temperature and finally air ratio, whose impact in the analyzed range is hardly seen. From the short-term stability test, the test bench setup reliability is demonstrated, showing no significant performance degradation after 140 continuous hours under load, which confirms the high quality and reproducibility of the results.</p>

YBEY as a ribosome biogenesis factor

<p>The ultraconserved RNA-binding protein YbeY has been associated with ribosomal RNA processing in numerous bacteria. However, mechanistic understanding of its function is still lacking, in particular in the light of the generally poor conservation of rRNA processing pathways across the bacterial kingdom. By leveraging the fact that YbeY homologues are wide-spread not only in bacteria but also in most eukaryotes harbouring bacteria-derived organelles, we addressed the functional significance of this protein in the highly divergent genetic system of human mitochondria.</p> <p>Mammalian mitochondrial rRNAs are known to be fully processed by dedicated RNase P and RNase Z enzymes, making additional ribonucleases superfluous. Indeed, <em>YBEY</em> knockout mitochondria were found to process all their ribosomal RNAs normally. Nevertheless, in the absence of YBEY, the mitochondrial small subunit (SSU) rRNA showed significant destabilisation, associated with a late SSU assembly defect. Component analysis identified a significant depletion of the mitoribosomal protein uS11m and several other, structurally dependent SSU constituents forming the platform and the head of the subunit. Our biochemical and genetic data suggest that this assembly defect renders the mitochondrial SSU initiation-incompetent, leading to a nearly complete translational shutdown in the mitochondrial compartment. Consequently, <em>YBEY</em> KO cells completely lose the ability to carry out oxidative phosphorylation.</p> <p>Coimmunoprecipitation and FLIM-FRET <em>in situ</em> interactomics, further supported by analyses in a heterologous system, identified direct and tight interactions between YBEY, uS11m and p32, a deeply conserved RNA-binding protein involved in mitoribosome assembly in a variety of eukaryotes. The three proteins form together stable and stoichiometric complexes. We propose that YBEY, together with p32, helps to efficiently deliver and/or correctly position uS11m on the nascent mitochondrial SSU&nbsp;in order to complete the assembly of the platform. Based on existing data, this YBEY function appears to be broadly conserved.</p>

Specifically, we 1) analyzed the distribution patterns of the studies <em>Drosophila</em> species; 2) fitted thermal performance curves; 3) tested the correlation between multiple thermal traits and distribution patterns; 4) fitted the Beverton-Holt model to describe the single-generation intra- and inter-specific competition effect; 5) examined the long-term effect of competition and temperature on the population size of a pair of Drosophila species.</p> <p>More details are provided in the README file.</p>

Evolution &amp; Development: advance online.<br> <a href="https://doi.org/10.1111/ede.12402">https://doi.org/10.1111/ede.12402</a></p> <p><strong>Abstract:&nbsp;</strong>Directional asymmetry is a systematic difference between the left and right sides for structures with bilateral symmetry, or a systematic differentiation among repeated parts for complex symmetry. This study explores factors that produce directional asymmetry in the flower of <em>Iris pumila</em>, a structure with complex symmetry that makes it possible to investigate multiple such factors simultaneously. The shapes and sizes of three types of floral organs, the falls, standards, and style branches, were quantified using the methods of geometric morphometrics. For each flower, this study recorded the compass orientations of floral organs as well as their anatomical orientations relative to the two spathes subtending each flower. To characterize directional asymmetry at the whole-flower level, differences in the average sizes and shapes according to compass orientation and relative orientation were computed, and the left&ndash;right asymmetry was also evaluated for each individual organ. No size or shape differences within flowers were found in relation to anatomical position, which may relate to the terminal position of flowers in <em>Iris pumila</em>, so that there was no evidence of any adaxial&ndash;abaxial polarity (which is very prominent in many other taxa). There was clear directional asymmetry of shape in relation to compass orientation, presumably driven by a consistent environmental gradient such as solar irradiance. There was also clear directional asymmetry between left and right halves of every floral organ, most likely related to the arrangement of organs in the bud. These findings indicate that there are different factors acting to produce directional asymmetry at different levels. In conventional analyses, these effects would be impossible to disentangle from each other and would probably be included as part of fluctuating asymmetry.</p> <p><strong>Data included</strong></p> <p>This data set includes landmark data for the falls, standards, and style branches of flowers of <em>Iris pumila</em>, as well as information about the compass orientation of each flower part, the compass orientation of the outer spathe of the respective flower, and the orientation of the flower part relative to the outer spathe, as described in the paper.</p> <p>The plants and flowers considered in this study have been sequentially numbered specifically for this study, and the identifiers for the floral parts use this numbering system. The numbers are consistent between the different flower parts included in the study.</p> <p>Files included:</p> <p><strong>fall_coord.txt</strong>: Landmark coordinates for the falls.
