The sewing in a Gothic style bookbinding
A model of the sewing in a Gothic style bookbinding. Straight, packed sewing around double cord supports, the sewing of the endbands is separate from the main sewing in this instance. The wooden boards are bevelled slightly on all edges but with a more pronounced curve at the spine edges, accommodating the swell of the sewing and encouraging a slight round to the spine. Holes are drilled and channels filed into the boards, wooden pegs are hammered through the holes where the cords emerge to secure the supports and anchor the boards to the book structure. The excess cords and pegs are cut and sanded flush. The added colour of the paper section edges and the sewing supports is to aid in their photogrammetric imaging. A medium quality model (here decimated to 1000k) of the Gothic decorations of the choir of the Saint Michael's Roman Catholic Cathedral in Alba Iulia, Romania. (copyright Arhiepiscopia Romano-Catolica de Alba Iulia, 2017). The model was created from 40 photos obtained using a 180 mm telephoto lens. "A remnant of the fortress that once occupied Fort Canning Hill from 1861 to 1926, Fort Gate was built in 1846. It served two purposes – to protect Singapore from a sea-borne attack and to give the country's European population a refuge should a local disturbance arise. <br><br> On the other side of Fort Gate are two imposing Gothic Gates at the entrance of Fort Canning Green, which was once a Christian burial ground. Flowering phenology and abundance, Gothic, CO, USA, 1973-present
<p>Prof. David Inouye has been collecting data on the abundance and timing of flowers that fall within permanent plots at the Rocky Mountain Biological Laboratory (RMBL), in Gothic, Colorado, USA, from 1973 to present. During the growing season, flowers of each species are counted approximately every other day, though in some years the start and/or end of flowering were missed, and data were not collected in 1978 and 1990. A core set of 23 2 x 2 m plots have been followed 1974-present (excluding 1978 and 1990), and additional plots have been added through the years (two in 1985, three in 1998, and two in 2004). Data are now collected in a total of 30 plots and up to 135 plant species have been recorded in the plots.</p>
