EIAH data model: semantic interoperability between distributed digital repositories

The authors described their information architecture project aimed at improving access to the Encyclopaedia of Iranian architectural history (EIAH) by signalling relationships between concepts and between concepts and documents. The outcome will be presented in a semantic portal or might be used for complex search queries by end users.

ISO 25964: a standard in support of KOS interoperability

ISO 25964: Information and documentation – Thesauri and interoperability with other vocabularies will be a two-part standard that updates and revises the existing international standards for monolingual and multilingual thesauri. And not just that: it should also help thesauri to play their full part in access to networked resources, particularly in a Semantic Web context. Part 1 (dealing with the development and establishment of thesauri) is on track for publication in 2011, while Part 2 (focusing on interoperability) is scheduled for completion in 2012. A large part of the content is intended to standardize mapping between one vocabulary and another.

Interoperability and discursive process about categories

With interdisciplinary contexts and various epistemic points of view, Digital Humanities implies taking into account social dimensions in the production of tools, methods, and archive processes.
From a pragmatic point of view, Digital humanities activities involve complex interpretative processes, linking human (individual and collective understanding) and algorithmic computation spaces. This articulation is emphasized In Prospéro software, but still has to support community dialog processes, which can be understood according to the Vocabulary alignment paradigm or socio-anthropological usage of language paradigm. In order to do so, we give some exploratory guidelines to express and historicize taxonomic processes and define the conditions by which algorithms could support such developments

Semantic interoperability in an international comprehensive knowledge organisation system

In this paper, the functional and relational characteristics and requirements for various
types of semantic interoperability in a comprehensive international knowledge organisation
system are being discussed with regard to an analysis of the underlying retrieval paradigms.
Furthermore, this paper analyses the potential benefits and perspectives of the selective transfer
of modelling strategies from the field of semantic technologies for the refinement of relational
structures of inter-system and inter-concept relations as a requirement for expressive and
functional indexing languages supporting advanced types of semantic interoperability.
