This dataset contains summary data collected at the Jornada Basin LTER program's P-COLL NPP site weather station at several temporal scales. Observed values include average/maximum/minimum air temperature, relative humidity, and wind speed; average wind direction; total precipitation; soil moisture, temperature and conductivity. Orthorectfied photo mosaics derived from UAV overflights of the fifteen NPP study sites at Jornada Basin LTER in 2019

This data package contains orthorectified mosaic photographs of each of the 15 NPP study sites at the Jornada Basin LTER in southern New Mexico, USA. The mosaics were derived from raw images collected during uncrewed aerial vehicle (UAV) overflight missions conducted in late summer and early autumn of 2019 (1 overflight day per site). For each site one or two missions were flown during an afternoon using a DJI Phantom 4 UAV, and between 450 and 1300 12.4 megapixel RGB images were captured. A subset of images captured at each site were loaded into Agisoft Metashape software to derive orthorectified photo mosaics. The raw images are not provided but can be made available via project PIs. This data package includes one centimeter resolution orthomosaic images of all 15 sites as geotiff raster files. Other derived products from these UAV missions, including digital elevation models, digital terrain models, and sparse point clouds, are available in other EDI data packages (knb-lter-jrn.210543002, knb-lter-jrn.210543003, and knb-lter-jrn.210543004, respectively). This study is complete.

These models include elevations of vegetation and other aboveground features. The raw images are not provided but can be made available via project PIs. This data package includes one centimeter resolution DEMs of all 15 sites as geotiff raster files. Net Primary Productivity (NPP) Weight Data at the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge, New Mexico

Several long-term studies at the Sevilleta LTER measure net primary production (NPP) across ecosystems and treatments. Net primary production is a fundamental ecological variable that quantifies rates of carbon consumption and fixation. Estimates of NPP are important in understanding energy flow at a community level as well as spatial and temporal responses to a range of ecological processes. Above-ground net primary production (ANPP) is the change in plant biomass, including loss to death and decomposition, over a given period of time. To measure this change, vegetation variables, including species composition and the cover and height of individuals, are sampled up to three times yearly (winter, spring, and fall) at permanent plots within a study site. The weight data presented here is obtained by harvesting a series of covers for species observed during plot sampling. These species are always harvested from habitat comparable to the plots in which they were recorded. This data is then used to make volumetric measurements of species and build regressions correlating biomass and volume. From these calculations, seasonal biomass and seasonal and annual NPP are determined.

OMPS-NPP L2 LP USask Aerosol Extinction Vertical Profile swath daily V1.1

<p>The USask OMPS-LP L2 2D Aerosol v1.1 product provides stratospheric aerosol extinction retrievals performed at the University of Saskatchewan for the central slit of the Ozone Mapping and Profiler Suite Limb Profiler (OMPS-LP) instrument on the Suomi-NPP satellite. The two-dimensional retrieval algorithm accounts for variation in the along orbital track dimension, retrieving an entire orbit simultaneously instead of treating each image independently. Stratospheric aerosol is retrieved from approximately the thermal tropopause to 30 km on a 1 km grid with a vertical resolution of approximately 2 km, and is assumed to be sulfate aerosol following a log-normal particle size distribution.</p> <p>Each granule contains data from the daylight portion of each orbit measured for a full month. Spatial coverage is global (-82 to +82 degrees latitude), and there are about 14.5 orbits per day, each has typically 160 profiles with an along orbital track sampling of 125 km. The files are written using NetCDF4.</p>

Monthly, Seasonal and Yearly Net Primary Productivity (NPP) data of India from 2003-2020 modelled using the CASA model

<p>We estimated monthly Net Primary Productivity (NPP) at 1km spatial resolution for India using the Carnegie-Ames-Stanford Approach (CASA) Model. The CASA is a light use efficiency (LUE) based model that simulates NPP driven by remote sensing and meteorological data inputs. NPP is calculated as a product of the light use efficiency (LUE) and absorbed photosynthetically active radiation (APAR). The seasonal and annual data are prepared by aggregating the monthly data. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) recognizes four seasons in India based on climate conditions. The four seasons are defined as Winter (January-February), Pre-monsoon (March-May), Monsoon (June-September), and Post-monsoon (October-December). The seasonal data is prepared according to the above classification of the seasons.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

Net primary production (NPP) and climate data from Sevilleta LTER core and control sites in desert grassland and shrubland ecosystems, 1999 - 2017

This dataset and R code were used to create the figures, tables and statistical analyses for the following publication: Rudgers, JA et al. 2018. Climate sensitivity functions and net primary production: A framework for incorporating climate mean and variability. Ecology. Data were collected by the Sevilleta LTER program, which is located in the Sevilleta National Wildlife Refuge (SNWR), New Mexico. These are long-term, continuing data sets. Data collection started in 1999 at the black grama grassland and creosote shrubland, and in 2002 for blue grama grassland. Meteorological stations started recording data as early as 1989. The study abstract from Rudgers et al. 2018 is: Understanding controls on net primary production (NPP) has been a long-standing goal in ecology. Climate is a well-known control on NPP, although the temporal differences among years within a site are often weaker than the spatial pattern of differences across sites. Climate sensitivity functions describe the relationship between an ecological response (e.g., NPP) and both the mean and variance of its climate driver (e.g., aridity index), providing a novel framework for understanding how climate trends in both mean and variance vary with NPP over time. Nonlinearities in these functions predict whether an increase in climate variance will have a positive effect (convex nonlinearity) or negative effect (concave nonlinearity) on NPP. The influence of climate variance may be particularly intense at ecosystem transition zones, if species reach physiological thresholds that create nonlinearities at these ecotones. Long-term data collected at the confluence of three dryland ecosystems in central New Mexico revealed that each ecosystem exhibited a unique climate sensitivity function that was consistent with long-term vegetation change occurring at their ecotones. Data are reported by age cohort, and include NPP increments (averaged across all trees within each landscape and successional stage) for all trees of known age (determined from coring).

This data set is derived from BNZ LTER inventory plots, where band dendrometers are in place on trees within each diameter size class (typically 10 trees per 10 cm increment diameter size class). Dendrometer bands are read in the fall each year. Biomass is calculated from allometric equations, from which annual biomass increments are derived. Data are reported as the average annual growth per tree across all trees within a given landscape and successional stage and reported as kg biomass/tree/year.
