Acadia National Park, U.S. National Park Service using Lakes and Stream Monitoring Protocol for National Parks in the Northeast Temperate Network, Version 1.1 (2006-2011)
Water quality data collected by Acadia National Park (U.S. National Park Service) staff using the procedures found in the Lakes and Stream Monitoring Protocol for National Parks in the Northeast Temperate Network, Version 1.1. Sampling occurs annually and is scheduled to continue indefinitely. Additional data from non-NPS collaborators are also included (in the pre-2006 sheets). Parameters measured in the field include Secchi transparency and surface temperature. Secchi depth was always measured using a viewing scope with "mask". Color, chlorophyll a, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, DOC, anion & cation samples were collected as grab samples or depth-integrated epilimnetic samples in lakes, and then sent to a central laboratory for analyses. These samples were collected in April, June, August and October. The National Water Quality Lab was used for analysis in 2006 & 2007; the Sawyer Environmental Chemistry Research Lab was used 2008-2011. Values below reporting/detection level indicated in associated "Flag" field. Empty cells with no associated flag indicate no data collected for parameter.
Stable carbon, oxygen and nitrogen isotopes in tree rings from temperate forests within long-term monitoring network in the UK
<p>Supporting dataset for the paper "Climate and atmospheric deposition effects on forest water‑use efficiency and nitrogen availability across Britain" by Guerrieri et al. 2020 Scientific Reports DOI is 10.1038/s41598-020-67562-w (<a href="https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-67562-w">https://www.nature.com/articles/s41598-020-67562-w</a>)</p> <p>The dataset includes carbon, oxygen and nitrogen stable isotope composition measured in tree rings for four species at twelve forests across climate and atmospheric deposition gradients in Britain. Data were used to i) investigate spatial and temporal (over 30‑years) changes in tree intrinsic water use efficiency (iWUE, i.e., the ratio between CO<sub>2</sub> assimilation - A, and stomatal conductance- g<sub>s</sub>); ii) assess the possible species-specific physiological mechanisms (changes in A and/or g<sub>s</sub>) evaluate whether sites receiving high Ndep experience increase in ecosystem N availability and N saturation (using tree-ring nitrogen isotope composition as a proxy); iv) elucidate drivers of spatial and temporal changes in the isotope-derived physiological and ecological processes (i.e., relative contribution of climate vs. changes in atmospheric CO<sub>2</sub> and nitrogen and sulfur deposition). </p> <p>The following files are available:</p> <ul> <li>CSV file including: a) Site names; b) Species; c) Latitude; d) Longitude; e) Investigated years (1980-2010); f) Measured isotope-related parameters and tree ring nitrogen %. [Videos] Design of resilient smart highway systems with data-driven monitoring from networked cameras
<p>Traditional high-way transportation systems are monitored based on traffic counters. Such sensors provide much less information compared to traffic cameras and make the system less secure/resilient to attacks/disasters. Thanks to the success of deep learning for object detection/segmentation on images and the publicly available large-scale image datasets with object labels, fusing the information from both traffic counters and traffic cameras has the potential to improve the security and resilience of existing high- way transportation systems. The purpose of the project is to investigate such a potential by developing a deep-learning-based highway video monitoring method that can reliably estimate the fine-grained (car/truck/motorcycle) traffic flow of a high-way network. First, we need to collect a large- scale traffic video dataset with traffic flow estimations from corresponding traffic counters. Then, we need to find efficient deep learning methods for extracting fine-grained local traffic information from individual traffic videos. At last, we need to correlate this information with traffic counters for sensor fusion and detection of defective counters.</p>

<p>The file "catalog.h5" contains the catalog of seismic events analyzed in the paper "Seismic monitoring using the telecom fiber network" by S. Donadello et al., Commun Earth Environ 5, 178 (2024) <a href="https://doi.org/10.1038/s43247-024-01338-2">https://doi.org/10.1038/s43247-024-01338-2</a> (formerly "Earthquake observatory with coherent laser interferometry on the telecom fiber network" on arXiv preprint).</p> <p>The reported data correspond to raw recordings, acquired by coherent interferometry techniques on a telecommunication fiber (see also <a href="doi.org/10.1109/TIM.2023.3288255">https://doi.org/10.1109/TIM.2023.3288255</a>), and decimated to a lower sampling rate.</p> <p>The catalog is organized as about 900 seismic events in the period between June 19th, 2021 and Sept. 26th, 2022, between Feb. 6th and March 23th 2023, and between Nov. 9th, 2022 and Nov. 18th, 2022, according to the criteria described in the paper.</p> <p>A detailed description of the ".h5" file format is provided in "h5_file_description.txt".</p> <p>A Python3 script "h5_cat_parser.py" for data interpretation in terms of standard python structures is provided.</p>

NARSTO Pacific 2001 Air Quality Study (PAC2001) Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) and and Canadian Air and Precipitation Monitoring Network (CAPMoN) Supplemental Air Quality Data
NARSTO_PAC2001_GVRD_CAPMON_AIR_QUAL_DATA is the North American Research Strategy for Tropospheric Ozone (NARSTO) Pacific 2001 Air Quality Study (PAC2001) Greater Vancouver Regional District (GVRD) and and Canadian Air and Precipitation Monitoring Network (CAPMoN) Supplemental Air Quality Data product. Data was obtained from January 1, 2001 to January 1, 2002. Air quality monitoring data routinely collect by the GVRD CAPMoN during the sampling period of PAC2001, are included as supplemental data for PAC2001.The GVRD monitoring network of 20 sites continued operation during the PAC2001 field study period, with enhanced quality assurance (QA) and quality control (QC) activities. At all sites, meteorological measurements were carried out at a 5-min time resolution. At a few specially equipped sites, particle mass PM10 were measured using tapered element oscillating microbalances (TEOMs). The network data complements the special study sites and form a spatial distribution of the pollutants. CAPMoN is a non-urban air quality monitoring network with siting criteria designed to ensure that the measurement locations are regionally representative (not affected by local sources of air pollution).The objectives were to determine the spatial patterns and establish the temporal trends of pollutants related to acid rain; provide for long-range transport model evaluations and effects research (aquatic, terrestrial, building materials and health); ensure the compatibility of federal, provincial and U.S. measurements; and study atmospheric processes. Scientists involved with the measurement of atmospheric pollution in urban centers would consider most CAPMoN sites to be remote and pristine. There are currently 19 measurement sites in Canada and 1 in the U.S. The Saturna Island site is located in the PAC2001 area of interest. PAC2001 was conducted from 1 August to 31 September 2001 in the Lower Fraser Valley (LFV), British Columbia, Canada. The study consisted of individual research projects organized to address several issues on ambient particulate matter and ozone that are important to policy makers. A special issue of Atmospheric Environment [Vol. 38(34), Nov 2004] described specific study objectives (Li, 2004) and presented a series of results papers from the field study. The ground sampling sites during the study were (1) Cassiar Tunnel, (2) Slocan Park, (3) Langley Ecole Lochiel, (4) Sumas Eagle Ridge, and (5) Golden Ears Provincial Park. Aloft measurements were taken from a Convair 580 and a Cessna 188. Selected measurement data were compiled for each site and aircraft and are archived as site-specific data sets.North American Research Strategy for Tropospheric Ozone (NARSTO), which has since disbanded, was a public/private partnership, whose membership spanned across government, utilities, industry, and academe throughout Mexico, the United States, and Canada. The primary mission was to coordinate and enhance policy-relevant scientific research and assessment of tropospheric pollution behavior; activities provide input for science-based decision-making and determination of workable, efficient, and effective strategies for local and regional air-pollution management. Data products from local, regional, and international monitoring and research programs are still available.
