TEFs could be significant to regional carbon (C) and nutrient budgets because permafrost soils contain large stocks of soil organic matter (SOM) and TEFs are expected to become more frequent as climate warms. These simulations deal only with recovery following TEF stabilization and do not address initial losses of C and nutrients during TEF formation. To capture the variability among and within TEFs, we simulate a range of post-stabilization conditions by varying the initial size of SOM pools and nutrient supply rates. This file contains the results for 25 years of tussock tundra under greenhouse conditions.

Macrophyte and microbial mat biomass co-variation along a hydrologic gradient and response to a removal experiment in temporary wetlands Everglades, FL, USA, February 2003 – November 2006

This data package encompasses hydrologic variables, soil depth, hydrologically-regulated macrophyte community types, macrophyte biomass and community structure, and microbial mat biomass that was collected in two observational surveys and one in-situ experimental manipulation in six temporary wetland regions located in the Everglades, FL, USA. The goal of this project was to examine the co-variation in macrophyte and microbial mat biomass along the hydrologic gradient present across wetland regions and to determine the type and strength of interactions occurring between the two communities, which was tested using a biomass (macrophyte or microbial mat) removal experiment. The census observational survey took place at 140 sites from 2003-04-09 to 2004-05-26, which were randomly distributed across the hydrologic gradient present across the six temporary wetland regions. The transect observational survey occurred along six transects and each was deliberately established along the present hydrologic gradient within each region; a total of 254 sites were sampled from 2003-02-19 to 2005-03-04. The experiment took place at three temporary wetland sites with contrasting hydroperiods (3 – 6 months), and four transects were established per site with 24 pairs of control and treatment plots per transect. The removal treatment occurred one year before data collection, and data collection occurred from 2004-06-20 to 2006-11-25. The package includes six datasets, one R code file, and two shape files associated with the R code. Data collection for all datasets is complete. FCE1274_Census_Survey includes hydrologically-regulated macrophyte community type classifications, macrophyte biomass, microbial mat ash-free dry mass, mean soil depth, water depth, mean annual hydroperiod, and vegetation-inferred hydroperiod; each site was sampled once during the survey period and a subset of sites were sampled each year. Stand and Community Response to Hemlock Woolly Adelgid in Southern New England since 1995

Hemlock woolly adelgid (HWA), Adelges tsugae, an introduced aphid-like insect from Asia, is expanding its range across the northeastern United States through the range of Tsuga canadensis (eastern hemlock) and can severely reduce or eliminate this important late-successional species. As part of a study investigating stand- and landscape-level forest dynamics resulting from HWA infestation, we examined initial community response of eight T. canadensis stands in south-central Connecticut and then continued to monitor these stands every other year. Our major objectives were to assess mortality patterns in T. canadensis, evaluate subsequent changes in stand microenvironment, and relate these and stand composition to initial patterns of regeneration, understory response, and community reorganization. Tsuga canadensis damage varied broadly across the study area ranging from near zero to greater than 95 % mortality. All size and age classes sampled were attacked by HWA, although smaller trees exhibited higher mortality rates than larger trees. All remaining T. canadensis sampled in seven of the eight stands were infested with HWA and over 90 % suffered at least 50 % foliar loss. Since 1995, overstory and understory mortality has risen 5 to 15 % per year to overall values of 50 to 99%. There has been no sign of tree recovery and the health and vigor of remaining trees deteriorated in all infested stands. Results suggest that trees on some sites can remain alive for over 10 years following initial infestation and remain standing for 6 to 8 years following mortality. Substantial accumulations of downed woody debris have developed in stands with severe HWA damage. Canopy gaps created by HWA damage significantly increased the amount of light reaching the forest floor and resulted in rapid understory vegetation responses. CBC02 Winter-spring survival and response of birds to variable climate using mist-net captures at Konza Prairie

This dataset includes captures of small-bodied landbirds captured via passive mist-netting efforts. The objectives are to (a) initiate a long-term survey of the non-breeding birds of the site, (b) understand the behavioral and physiological mechanisms that allow birds to cope with the unpredictable, variable, and often harsh conditions during winter months, and (c) provide a training platform for students. The collection of this dataset is fully integrated into the teaching of “Wild Bird Research” (an undergraduate hands-on research course in the Division of Biology) and less formal instruction in bird research methods for graduate students. Additionally, the banding efforts have benefited from the engagement of Konza Prairie docents and frequently hosts class visits and other visitors interested in witness bird banding operations.

PsPM-HRM1-2: SCR and ECG measurements in response to white noise sounds and an auditory oddball task

<p>This dataset includes skin conductance response (SCR) and electrocardiogram (ECG) for each of 61 healthy unmedicated participants (28 males, 32 females, 1 unassigned, aged 25.8 +/- 4.6 years) in response to 20 broadband white noise sounds (HRM1) or 10 oddball tones in a oddball task (HRM2). Some participants did not did not complete HRM1 or HRM2 or were excluded from analysis such that there are 56 recordings for HRM1 and 58 recordings for HRM2. White noise sounds in HRM1 were 1 s long with 10 ms on- and offset ramp and presented at ~85 dB. Oddball and standard sounds in HRM2 were 50 ms long, with 10 ms on- and offset ramp, and presented at ~75 dB. Sound frequency was 440 Hz or 460 Hz, randomly balanced per participant to oddballs and standards. SOA between white noise sounds and oddball tones was selected randomly on each trial from 30 s, 35 s or 40 s. All stimuli were presented in one block. There is a marker for each sound onset (including standard tones) in the windaq files.</p>

PsPM-HRM5: SCR, ECG and respiration measurements in response to positive/negative IAPS pictures, and neutral/aversive sounds

<p>This dataset includes skin conductance response (SCR), electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiration measurements for each of 19 healthy unmedicated participants (8 males and 11 females aged 26.1 +/- 5.4 years) in response to 65 dB and 85 dB sounds as well as the 60 most arousing negative and the 60 most arousing positive (excluding explicit nude) IAPS pictures, presented for 1 s each. PsPM-RRM1-2: SCR, ECG, respiration and eye tracker measurements in response to electric stimulation or visual targets

<p>This dataset includes skin conductance response (SCR), electrocardiogram (ECG), respiration and eye tracker (including pupillometry) measurements for each of 29 healthy unmedicated participants (7 males and 22 females aged 23.5 +/- 3.6 years) in response to 10 discomforting electric stimulations to the forearm (RRM1) or 10 visual targets in a visual detection task (RRM2). The sample partly overlaps with data set <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.1292568">PsPM-FR</a>. Some participants did not take part in RRM1 or RRM2 such that there are 25 recordings for RRM1 and 26 recordings for RRM2. Electric shock stimuli are 0.2 ms wide square current pulse repeated at 500 Hz for 500 ms and individually adjusted amplitude just below the pain threshold. Visual stimuli are red crosses (+) embedded in a white digit stream; each stimulus is presented during 200 ms and separated by a 800 ms blank interval. ITI is selected randomly on each trial from 40 s, 45 s or 50 s. A baseline period with distractors but no targets concludes experiment RRM2. (This is in contrast to the methods description in Bach et al. (2016), according to which the baseline period was randomly either in the beginning or at the end of the experiment. This discrepancy was caused by an error in the code that controlled the experiment presentation.)</p>

Evaluating rose yield responses to compost treatments: Data from an 18-month field study in Kenya

<p>This dataset and these scripts supports the manuscript 'Modelling cut rose yield after compost amendment over an 18-month period using repeated sigmoidal Gompertz curve fitting' by Evy de Nijs, Roland Bol, Albert Tietema &amp; Emiel van Loon.&nbsp;</p> <p>Roses are an important crop for the floricultural sector of Kenya. Roses are a perennial crop and under continuous production for six to ten years. To optimize rose production, it is essential to understand how different management practices impact yield over time. This dataset contains a detailed record of rose yield data collected in an 18-month large-scale field experiment. The aim of this experiment was to evaluate the effect of pre-planting compost amendment on the yield and quality of cut roses. It was conducted in a polythene greenhouse near lake Naivasha, Kenya. Yield data included the number of stems harvested per day per flowering bed. Data presented here offer a comprehensive view of the impacts of different compost treatments on the yield of cut roses. Combined with the offered scripts, this is the framework presented in the aforementioned manuscript. Accessible Oceans: Auditory Display. Ocean Response to Extratropical Storm Hermine

<p>The twenty-one tracks make up an auditory display&nbsp;of the ocean response to extratropical storm Hermine in 2016. The tracks in the auditory display are comprised of data sonifications and contextual audio supports (dialogue, auditory icons, and music). You may <a href="https://samply.app/p/VGWHypmrFPZ1NqzeqZuM">listen online here</a>.</p> <p>The ocean data&nbsp;comes from the National Science Foundation (NSF) Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) and the display is based on the <a href="https://datalab.marine.rutgers.edu/ooi-nuggets/extratropical-storm-hermine/">OOI Nugget</a> developed by Dr. Leslie Smith.&nbsp;Please note that the Ocean Labs data nugget does not include sea wave height as part of its graph that we sonified. Storms also impact sea wave height, and Dr. Leslie Smith acquired this data from the OOI so that we could include it in the sonification and auditory display.</p> <p>The &ldquo;Accessible Oceans&rdquo; AISL Pilots and Feasibility study aims to inclusively design auditory displays that support the perception and understanding of ocean data in informal learning environments (ILEs). PsPM-PubFe: Pupil size response in a delay fear conditioning procedure with auditory CS and electrical US.

<p>This dataset includes pupil size response (PSR), skin conductance response (SCR), electrocardiogram (ECG) and respiration measurements. Also included are CS and US information, keypress responses, keypress response times and key correctness for each of 22 healthy unmedicated participants (7 males and 15 females aged 26.4+/-5.2 years) participating in a classical (Pavlovian) discriminant delay fear conditioning task. CS consists of two sine tones with constant frequency (220 Hz or 440 Hz, 50-ms onset and offset ramp). US is a train of electric square pulses delivered with a constant current stimulator (Digitimer DS7A, Digitimer, Welwyn Garden City, UK) on participants&#39; dominant forearm through a pin-cathode/ring-anode configuration. SOA betwen the CS and US is 3.5 s. The ITI is randomly determined on each trial to be 7, 9, or 11 s.</p>

Dataset: Strong isoprene emission response to temperature in tundra vegetation

<p>Dataset used in the article &quot;<em>Strong isoprene emission response to temperature in tundra vegetation</em>&quot; published in the journal <em><strong>Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the USA&nbsp;</strong></em><strong>119: e2118014119</strong> <a href="https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2118014119">https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2118014119</a></p> <p>The tab-delimited file contains direct surface-atmosphere isoprene fluxes, measured every 30-minutes&nbsp;by Eddy Covariance with a Proton Transfer Reaction -Time of Flight- Mass Spectrometer (PTR-ToF-MS) during the whole growing season at two different tundra sites in Scandinavia (near Abisko, Sweden in 2018, and near Finse, Norway during 2019). It also contains the MEGANv2.1 biogenic model predicted isoprene emissions for the same periods and sites. In addition, air temperature, vegetation surface temperature, and photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD) measured at the sites are also reported, together with their past 24h and 240h averages (needed to run the MEGAN simulation accounting for the recent past environmental conditions).</p>
