Webinar: Towards bio-based paints and coatings – Fundamentals and an introduction to the PERFECOAT project
<p>The European paints and coatings market is projected to grow from USD 37.2 billion in 2023 to USD 41.6 billion by 2028 (Markets and Markets, 2023). While a majority of currently used ingredients are fossil-based, prospects show an increasing demand for sustainable paints and coatings, especially in the professional and DIY (Do it yourself) industries. To enable a smooth transition from fossil to sustainable products, the industry is in desperate need for high performance bio-based solutions especially for bio-polymers and lipids, binders, fillers, pigments and additives like functional nanomaterials. These major component groups combined account for nearly 70% of the ingredients (American Coatings Association, 2023). In the first two years of examination, the EU funded research project PERFECOAT successfully developed innovative bio-based solutions, from bio-waste and agricultural residues. These will be tested in the formulation of three use-cases: UV-curable clear coatings for wood, waterborne trim paints for DIY, and waterborne wall paints.</p> <p>At this project stage, the partners successfully developed bio-based polymers and lipids, binders, fillers, fungal pigments and dyes, as well as different additives like functional nanomaterials. These cover a variety of performance requirements like paint texture and grip, clarity, flexibility, UV resistance (no yellowing) as well as drying and curing time. </p> <p>In the first webinar “Towards bio-based paints and coatings – Fundamentals and an introduction to the PERFECOAT project” international experts will introduce the basics of paint and coatings formulation and address the potential of bio-based solutions in this field. A historic overview will address paint and coating applications and discuss the performance requirements for newly developed solutions and challenges in novel applications.</p> <p>Curious? 5G-VINNI Webinar for ICT-19 Proposers
<p>The 5G-VINNI project hold a webinar to explain its end-to-end facility to ICT-19 proposers and explain the process for obtaining consent for use of the 5G-VINNI facility. For ICT-19 proposers it is important to correctly understand how they can make use of the 5G-VINNI end-to-end facility. The webinar gave an overview on the facility and answered the questions that proposers had. In our webinar, we informed ICT-19 proposers and other interested participants about the 5G-VINNI facility and how to access and use it for the trials and validations of ICT-19 projects. The target audience for this webinar were proposers for ICT-19 projects in the context of the 5G PPP initiative of the H2020 programme of the European Commission.</p>

<p>During the WAAW campaign on 24 November, EU funded H2020 projects AVANT, DISARM, HealthyLivestock and ROADMAP joined forces to share experiences and progress from the field about the challenge of antimicrobial resistance in animals. Scientific Webinar on Sustainable Public Food Procurement (SPFP) in the European Union
<p>On 23 April 2024, <a href="https://sapiensnetwork.eu/">SAPIENS Network</a> <a href="https://sapiensnetwork.eu/research/early-stage-researcher-projects/sustainability-to-collective-table/">Early Stage Researcher Chiara Falvo</a> held a scientific webinar focusing on Sustainable Public Food Procurement (SPFP) in the European Union. The event took place in hybrid form and was hosted within the Master’s Course in Food Systems Law at the Department of Law of the University of Turin, also in collaboration with the Department of Agricultural, Forestry and Food Sciences (DISAFA). After a brief introduction on public procurement law and practice, Chiara delved into the legal strategies and mechanisms for integrating social and environmental considerations into the procurement of food and catering services. She also highlighted some national and local experiences that are leading the way in the field. During the event, <a href="https://www.giurisprudenza.unito.it/do/docenti.pl/Alias?silvia.mirate#tab-profilo">Professor Silvia Mirate</a>, who also acted as a discussant, provided an overview on the new EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR), followed by Chiara's exploration of its relevance for public procurement. Contributing to bridging the gap between the scientific domains of law and agricultural and forestry sciences, this webinar may be relevant for students and newcomers to public procurement, especially in the food sector, as well as for anyone interested in understanding deforestation issues and the latest legal mechanisms to combat them. </p>

Sam also works closely with teacher organisations around the world to understand the impact of digitalisation on teacher professional autonomy. His most recent book is titled Algorithms of education: How datafication and artificial intelligence shape policy (University of Minnesota Press), co-authored with Kalervo N. Gulson and P. Universities and Unicorns – New Forms of Value in Digital Higher Education (SRHE webinar)
<p>SRHE's Digital University Network organised an event on 21 September 2023. The research team from the ESRC-funded research project Universities and Unicorns (UU) project presented initial findings after the project finished. The project introduced fundamentally new ways to think about and examine the digitalising of the higher education sector. It investigated new forms of value creation and suggested that value in the sector increasingly lies in the creation of digital assets. Further, the project examined whether and how universities, companies and investors shift from forms of entrepreneurship to forms of rentiership. This has important consequences. Her approach sits at the intersection of economic sociology, science and technology studies, and higher education research.
