Empirical Research on Requirements Quality: A Systematic Mapping Study - Dataset

<p>We conducted a systematic mapping study on the empirical research into the quality of requirements titled &quot;Empirical Research on Requirements Quality: A SystematicMapping Study&quot; in the Requirements Engineering Journal. This is our replication package.</p> <p>Full Abstract:</p> <p>Research has repeatedly shown that high quality requirements are essential for the&nbsp;success&nbsp;of development projects. While the term &ldquo;quality&rdquo; is pervasive in the field of requirements engineering and while the body of research on requirements quality is large, there is&nbsp;no&nbsp;meta study of the field that overviews and compares the concrete quality attributes addressed by the community. To fill this knowledge gap, we conducted a systematic mapping study of the scientific literature. We retrieved 6,905 articles from six academic databases, which we filtered down to our 105 relevant primary studies: explicitly defining,&nbsp;improving, or evaluating quality attributes while including an empirical research component. We found that research on requirements quality focuses on&nbsp;improvement&nbsp;techniques, with very few primary studies addressing evidence-based definitions and evaluations of quality attributes. Among the 12 quality attributes identified, the most&nbsp;prominent&nbsp;in the field are ambiguity, completeness, consistency, and correctness. We identified 111 sub-types of quality attributes such as &ldquo;template conformance&rdquo; for consistency or &ldquo;passive&nbsp;voice&rdquo; for ambiguity. Ambiguity has the largest&nbsp;share&nbsp;of these sub-types. The artefacts being studied are mostly referred to in the broadest sense as &ldquo;requirements,&rdquo; while little research targets quality attributes in specific types of requirements such as use cases or user stories. We present and discuss our detailed analysis along the various quality attributes. Our findings&nbsp;highlightthe need to conduct more grounded research aimed at &ldquo;definitions,&rdquo; to use more diverse research methods, and to address a more diverse set of requirements types.</p>

Value-based Software Engineering: A Systematic Mapping Study

<p><strong>Abstract</strong><br> <strong>Background: </strong>Integrating value-oriented perspectives into the principles and practices of software engineering is fundamental to ensure that software development activities address key stakeholders&rsquo; views and also balance short-and long-term goals. This is put forward in the discipline of value-based software engineering (VBSE)<br> <strong>Aim:</strong> This study aims to provide an overview of VBSE with respect to the research efforts that have been put into VBSE.<br> <strong>Method:</strong> We conducted a systematic mapping study to classify evidence on value definitions, studies&rsquo; quality, VBSE principles and practices, research topics, methods, types, contribution facets, and publication venues.<br> <strong>Results:</strong> From 143 studies we found that the term &ldquo;value&rdquo; has not been clearly defined in many studies. VB Requirements Engineering and VB Planning and Control were the two principles mostly investigated, whereas VB Risk Management and VB People Management were the least researched. Most studies showed very good reporting and relevance quality, acceptable credibility, but poor in rigor. The main research topic was Software Requirements and case study research was the method used the most. The majority of studies contribute toward methods and processes, while very few studies have proposed metrics and tools.<br> <strong>Conclusion:</strong> We highlighted the research gaps and implications for research and practice to support VBSE.</p>

Several technologies for skin-based immunisation in humans are being developed to maximise these key advantages. This route is more conventionally used in veterinary medicine. Skin-based vaccination of pigs is of high relevance due to their anatomical, physiological, and immunological similarities to humans, as well as being a source of zoonotic diseases and their livestock value. We conducted a systematic mapping review, focusing on vaccine-induced immunity and safety after the skin immunisation of pigs. Veterinary vaccines, specifically anti-viral vaccines, predominated in the literature. The safe and potent skin administration to pigs of adjuvanted vaccines, particularly emulsions, are frequently documented. Multiple methods of skin immunisation exist; however, there is a lack of consistent terminology and accurate descriptions of the route and device. Antibody responses, compared to other immune correlates, are most frequently reported. There is a lack of research on the underlying mechanisms of action and breadth of responses. Nevertheless, encouraging results, both in safety and immunogenicity, were observed after skin vaccination that were often comparable to or superior the intramuscular route. Further research in this area will underlie the development of enhanced skin vaccine strategies for pigs, other animals and humans.</p> <p><strong>Keywords:&nbsp;</strong>epicutaneous; epidermal; intradermal; needle-free; percutaneous; pig; skin; transcutaneous; transdermal; vaccine.</p>

Paper Repository and References for "Early software defect prediction: A systematic map and review"

<p>Context: Software defect prediction is a trending research topic, and a wide variety of the published papers focus on coding phase or after. A limited number of papers, however, includes the prior (early) phases of the software&nbsp;development lifecycle (SDLC).<br> Objective: The goal of this study is to obtain a general view of the characteristics and usefulness of Early Software&nbsp;Defect Prediction (ESDP) models reported in scientific literature.&nbsp;<br> Method: A systematic mapping and systematic literature review study has been conducted. We searched for the&nbsp;studies reported between 2000 and 2016. We reviewed 52 studies and analyzed the trend and demographics,&nbsp;maturity of state-of-research, in-depth characteristics, success and benefits of ESDP models.&nbsp;<br> Results: We found that categorical models that rely on requirement and design phase metrics, and few continuous&nbsp;models including metrics from requirements phase are very successful. We also found that most studies&nbsp;reported qualitative benefits of using ESDP models.<br> Conclusion: We have highlighted the most preferred prediction methods, metrics, datasets and performance&nbsp;evaluation methods, as well as the addressed SDLC phases. We expect the results will be useful for software&nbsp;teams by guiding them to use early predictors effectively in practice, and for researchers in directing their future&nbsp;efforts.</p>

Supplementary Material - Uncovering the Effects of Quantum Computing on Software Engineering: A Systematic Mapping

<p>This is the supplementary material regarding:&nbsp; &ldquo;On the Influence of Quantum Computing on Software Engineering: A Systematic Mapping&rdquo;, the idea being to make it possible to reproduce the methodology applied in the Systematic Mapping (SM) used in the study. It consists of:</p> <ul> <li>Spreadsheet with the data of the papers selected in each step of the filtering phase of the SM development</li> <li>Fluxogram detailing the Methodology of the SM step-by-step<strong></strong></li> </ul> <h3><strong>Objectives</strong></h3> <p>The main objective of the SM was to provide a detailed analysis on how quantum computing has affected four software engineering topics: Software Testing and Quality; Software Reengineering/Modernization; Software Modeling and Software Processes and Development Platforms</p> <p>Based on the results of such Mapping, four research questions were defined realted to the quantum software engineering topic:</p> <ul> <li> <p>RQ1: <span>How has QC impacted software testing and qual</span><span>ity? This RQ aims to identify proposed methods for </span><span>testing quantum software and topics related to quantum </span><span>metrics and bugs.</span></p> </li> <li> <p>RQ2: How has QC influenced software reengineering and modernization practices? This study seeks to analyze the treatment of reverse engineering and refactorings within this context.</p> </li> <li> <p>RQ3: How is quantum software modeled? This research aims to investigate the impact of QC on modeling languages and the granularity level used.</p> </li> <li> <p>RQ4: How have development processes and platforms been shaped by QC? The goal is to assess the current maturity of processes and platforms for QC.</p> </li> </ul> <h3><strong>Preparation</strong></h3> <p>In this part we outline the resources, digital libraries, the search string and inclusion and exclusion criteria used in this SM on the influence of quantum computing on software engineering.</p> <p>The platform used to manage the articles and define the search string and inclusion and exclusion criteria was Parsifal. When the authors published a new and more complete version of the same content, we remove the previous paper.</p> </li> </ul> <h3><strong>Conduction</strong></h3> <p>During the conduction of the papers filtering process there were four stages to which the set of papers were applied to until reaching the final set:</p> <ul> <li> <p>First stage: Removal of every paper that was duplicated, leaving only one instance of each paper.</p> </li> <li> <p>Second stage: Removal of papers that are not a primary study.</p> </li> <li> <p>Third stage: Removal of papers which keywords, title and abstract are not related to the topics of the Systematic Mapping;</p> </li> <li> <p>Fourth stage: Removal of papers whose content is not related to the topics of the Systematic Mapping.</p> </li> </ul>
