During the present study, nesting Lusitanian toadfish males emitted sounds that have not previously been described such as triple croaks (A), long grunt trains (B) and combinations of long grunt trains with other sound types (C). In (C) a long grunt train (thin line) combines with a grunt train (double line) that ends in a croak (thick line), which blends into a boatwhistle (dashed line), which is then followed by another long grunt train (thin line). Note that in (C), the LGT is hardly visible in the oscillogram due its much lower amplitude than the other sounds. Sonograms used a 30 Hz filter bandwidth.

SmartCom XML Scheme Definition (XSD) for a Machine-readable Communication of Fundamental Constants in Metrology
<p>The XSD defines a data structure for an unambiguous, easy-to-use, safe and uniform exchange of fundamental physical constants and mathematical constants in a machine-readable data format. The data elements for constants are defined in the Digital System of Units (D-SI) metadata model from the EMPIR project 17IND02 SmartCom. The development of the data structure was based on an own analysis of minimum requirement for transfering the data of fundamental physical constants "as are" provided by CODATA into a machine-readable form. Furthermore, the considerations for the transformation comprise traceability to the original CODATA values.</p> <p>The availability of machine-readable data of fundamental physical constants that can easy be accessed by software and that are traceable to a international accepted definition is essential for various areas of metrology where the International System of Units (SI) is of key-importance.</p>

<p>Blue-Action coordinated a series of webinars on climate science communication in 2020. These were aimed at early-career researchers, but anyone who wishes to engage people with their research at any stage will find them valuable.</p> <p>This webinar was delivered on 19th June 2020 by <a href="https://www.sams.ac.uk/people/professional-services/paterson-euan/">Euan Paterson</a>, who is the Communications and Media Officer at the <a href="https://www.sams.ac.uk/">Scottish Association for Marine Science.</a> Euan is trained in journalism, and spent over a decade working in print media, before moving to work at the Institute. He brought his years of experience on both sides of the relationship to the webinar, sharing some insights and ideas on how to engage with the media.</p>
