Data Bundle for PyPSA-Eur: An Open Optimisation Model of the European Transmission System

<p><strong>PyPSA-Eur</strong> is an open model dataset of the European power system at the transmission network level that covers the full ENTSO-E area. It can be built using the code provided at <a href="https://github.com/PyPSA/PyPSA-eur">https://github.com/PyPSA/PyPSA-eur</a>.</p> <p><strong>It contains</strong> alternating current lines at and above 220 kV voltage level and all high voltage direct current lines, substations, an open database of conventional power plants, time series for electrical demand and variable renewable generator availability, and geographic potentials for the expansion of wind and solar power.</p> <p><strong>Not all data dependencies</strong> are shipped with the <a href="https://github.com/PyPSA/PyPSA-eur">code repository</a>, since git is not suited for handling large changing files. Instead we provide separate <strong>data bundles</strong> to be downloaded and extracted as noted in the <a href="https://pypsa-eur.readthedocs.io/en/latest/installation.html">documentation</a>.</p> <p>This is the <strong>full</strong> data bundle to be used for rigorous research. <p>Data for A History of Open Weather in New Zealand (HOWNZ): an open access 1 km resolution monthly 1910-2019 time-series of interpolated temperature and rainfall grids with associated uncertainty</p> <p>There is data for both:</p> <ul> <li>nni: the variable estimate from natural neighbour interpolation</li> <li>unc: the uncertainty of the variable estimate</li> </ul> <p>for four weather variables:</p> <ul> <li>rain: total rainfall</li> <li>tavg: mean air temperature</li> <li>tmin: mean daily minimum air temperature</li> <li>tmax: mean daily maximum air temperature</li> </ul> <p>and these variables help form the file names alongside the year and month.</p> <p>So for example, nni-rain-1910-01.tif contains the natural neighbour interpolated values for total rainfall in January 1910, and unc-tavg-1979-05.tif contains the uncertainty values for mean air temperature in May 1979.</p> <p>For storage efficiency when archiving the data, all data value were multiplied by 10 so that they could be stored as 16 bit integer files. Therefore, <strong>all the data needs to be divided by 10</strong> to restore the actual data values before the data is used for any analysis.</p>

Fedora4: The Open Linked Data Platform

<p>Presentation at Open Repositories 2015 (OR2015), the 10th International Conference on Open Repositories, Indianapolis, Indiana, in session P1A: Linked Open Data (LOD). Note that high quality video files for this talk were not obtainable, so some video quality problems may be noticed.</p> <p>Linked Open Data has moved from being a buzzword to a fundamental building block of modern repositories and information systems. Its explosion, taking in this domain the form of scholarly and scientific datasets, publications, annotations, cultural heritage descriptions and other repository-based content, offers unprecedented opportunity for scientific and societal advancement. It is the interconnections that integrate systems and resources, however, that turn disparate ideas into unanticipated solutions.</p> <p>The Open Repositories community largely understands the value of linked data. The trouble has been in answering the question of &ldquo;how?&rdquo; to do this together, rather than &quot;why?&quot; do it at all. In order to be effective, we need to have solid guidelines, common practices, and well specified toolsets and products. A confluence of developments has opened the door to exactly this.</p> <p>In October of 2012, the initial W3C working draft of the Linked Data Platform 1.0 (LDP) document was published[2]. In July of 2012, the demand for a next-generation Fedora platform was channeled into the Fedora 4 (F4) project, which at the time was termed Fedora Futures. The alignment of these two stars set in motion events that provided both requirements and solutions for the community.</p>
