Glacier evolution projections in the French Alps (2015-2100)

Dataset describing the evolution of all individual glaciers in the French Alps for the 2015-2100 period under 29 different RCM-GCM-RCP combinations. The dataset includes annual topographical data (e.g. mean glacier altitude, surface area, slope...), climate data at the glacier's mean altitude (cumulative positive degree-days, winter snowfall, summer snowfall...) and annual glacier-wide mass balance data.

The dataset is available in two formats: netCDF and CSV. The netCDF file is the recommended format, as it is well structured to be browsed across dimensions, particularly using tools such as xarray.

A secondary dataset (.zip file) includes individual raster files for each glacier and year representing the evolving glacier ice thickness for each of the 29 climate scenarios.

Output from the Glacier Energy and Mass Balance (GEMB v1.0) forced with 3-hourly RACMO fields, Greenland and Antarctica 1979-2014

These model output are those presented in the manuscript that provides the first description of version 1.0 of the open-source Glacier Energy and Mass Balance model. GEMB is a column model of ice sheet and glacier surface-atmospheric energy and mass exchange as well as firn state. GEMB has been integrated into the open-source Ice-Sheet and Sea-level System Model which can be downloaded at https://issm.jpl.nasa.gov/. Here, GEMB is forced with 3-hourly RACMO output from 1979-2014.

Monthly glacier mass changes from CryoSat-2 radar altimetry

We generate a record of ice loss across glaciers globally for the first time from CryoSat-2 swath interferometric radar altimetry. CryoSat-2’s orbital sub-cycle of 30 days allows us to resolve changes at high temporal resolution for Alaska, Arctic Canada North and South, Greenland periphery glaciers, Iceland, Svalbard, Franz Josef Land, Novaya Zemlya, Severnaya Zemlya, High Mountain Asia, Southern Andes and Antarctic periphery glaciers between 2010 and 2020.

Map of the rate of elevation change of Mont-Blanc glaciers derived from Pléiades stereo-images

This collection contains three map of elevation changes derived form Pléiades images acquired in 2012, 2021 and 2022 over the Mont-Blanc Massif (Alps) with a horizontal grid spacing of 4 m. They were derived from stereo-pairs acquired 19 August 2012, 15 August 2021, 12 October 2022, 8 August 2022 and 5 October 2022. No data are indicated by the -9999 value.

We generated 4-m DEMs from five Pléiades stereo-pairs using the semi-global matching algorithm of the Ames Stereo Pipeline (Beyer et al., 2018) and the set of parameters defined in Deschamps-Berger et al. (2020). The DEMs were first coregistered on stable terrain, masking out glacierized areas using a glacier inventory from year 2015 (Paul et al., 2020). Spatially-coherent biases in the elevation difference maps were next corrected using a polynomial fit across-track and a spline fit in the along-track direction (Falaschi et al., 2023).

Pléiades stereo-images were obtained thanks to DINAMIS Project, for “Dispositif Institutionnel National d’Approvisionnement Mutualisé en Imagerie Satellitaire”, a French platform that acquires and distributes very high resolution Earth satellite imagery for French and foreign institutional users under specific subscription conditions.
