Rock physics models of gas hydrate bearing sediments – the classification, simulation workflow, and challenges
<p>This study reviews the rock physics models for simulating the elastic properties of gas hydrate bearing sediments. Considering that it is confusing to select the appropriate model for a specific study from the various models, we classify the models into five categories according to different principles. We also summarize a general workflow of the modeling process, elaborate the possible models in each step and bring up the potential sources of uncertainties. Besides, we explicate the general problems of the current models and raise several potential research directions. This study provides us a clear view of the rock physics models, the associated uncertainties, as well as the general modeling workflow of gas hydrate bearing sediments, and also provides some implications for future studies.</p>
Typical & Extreme Meteorological Year and Heatwaves for Dynamic Building Simulations in Belgium based on MAR model Simulations
<p>This dataset contains 3 types of files for 12 cities (v.1.0) in Belgium:</p> <ul> <li>Typical Meteorological Year</li> <li>Extreme Meteorological Year</li> <li>Heatwave Events</li> </ul> <p>These files were produced from simulations of the MAR model forced by the ERA5 reanalyses over the period 1980-2020 but also by 3 ESMs from the CMIP6 database, namely BCC-CSM2-MR, MPI-ESM.1.2, and MIROC6 over the period 1980-2100. The available data for version 1.0 concerns 12 cities in Belgium but may be increased in future versions of this dataset.</p> <p>A detailed description of the methods used has been submitted as an article in the ESSD journal (S. Doutreloup et al., Historical and Future Weather Data for Dynamic Building Simulations in Belgium using the MAR model: Typical & Extreme Meteorological Year and Heatwaves, Earth Syst. Sci. Data, 2021).</p>
Shortening the runtime using larger time steps for the simulation of marine ecosystem models
<p><strong>Abstract:</strong></p> <p>The reduction of computational costs for marine ecosystem models is important for the investigation and detection of the relevant biogeochemical processes because such models are computationally expensive. In order to lower these computational costs by means of larger time steps we investigated the accuracy of steady annual cycles (i.e., an annual periodic solution) calculated with different time steps. We compared the accuracy for a hierarchy of biogeochemical models showing an increasing complexity and computed the steady annual cycles with offline simulations that are based on the transport matrix approach. For each of these biogeochemical models, we obtained practically the same solution even though larger time steps. This indicates that larger time steps shortened the runtime with an acceptable loss of accuracy.</p> <p><strong>Content:</strong></p> <ul> <li>SQLite database including the obtained results</li> <li>Tracer concentrations obtained with different time steps for all used models and parameter vectors</li> </ul>

<p>In this repository, we include the source codes for WRF microphysics parameterization used in the GMD publication "Simulated microphysical properties of winter storms from bulk-type microphysics schemes and their evaluation in WRF (v4.1.3) model during ICE-POP 2018."</p> <p>The four 2-moment bulk microphysical parameterization codes, WDM6, WDM7, Thompson, and Morrison, are divided into 3 WDM, Thompson, and Morrison codes, and each code has been modified so that detailed microphysical processes can be checked in wrfout.</p> <p>The WDM6 and WDM7 schemes include numerical errors for ice microphysical parameterization (Kim and lim, 2021) and for cloud evaporation and melting processes (Lei et al., 2020).</p> <p>Namelist files shows the namelist.input for each case.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
An evaluation dataset for the skills of CMIP5 and CMIP6 models in simulating climate of China
<p>General circulation model (GCM) simulations archived by the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP) are crucial tools for climate science. However, with various GCM results simulated by different countries and institutions, researchers have difficulty in choosing appropriate models for their unique study area. To this end, this dataset provieds Tayler skill scores of 28 GCMs in simulating temperature and precipitation of 631 reference sites across China under daily, monthly and seasonally scales. These scores are calculated based on the observations of meteorological stations and historical simulations of GCMs during 1970-2005. </p> <p>The dataset is very important for researchers to select locally appropriate GCMs. For example, researchers concerned with climate change of Beijing could firstly download the GCMs with sound performance at station 54511 (i.e., NorESM2-LM, INM-CM5-0 and MPI-ESM1-2-LR for temperature and NorESM1-M, IPSL-CM5A-LR and INM-CM4 for precipitation), and then conduct the further works of downscaling.</p>
