FIGURE 2. Schmidt´s second illustration (Schmidt 1796: tab. II, fig. 3) of Hippion obtusifolium. This does not belong to the original material and shows a plant with exclusively pentamerous corollae but again with calyces that could either be tetra- or pentamerous. The illustration was obtained from the original work stored in the Vienna University Library, Departmental Library Botany.

FIGURE 1. Schmidt´s first illustration (Schmidt 1793b: tab. 147) of Hippion obtusifolium cited in the protologue (Schmidt 1793a) and designated as lectotype by Skalický (1969). The illustration shows a plant with predominantly pentamerous corollae plus a single tetramerous one; the presumably unique copy is held by the National Library of the Czech Republic / Národní knihovna České republiky (16 AA 29/T. 2).

FIGURE 3. Voucher of Gentianella obtusifolia in PR (PR 134598) belonging to the herbarium of Philipp Maximilian Opiz. The handwritten label by Opiz gives Bergreichenstein [Kašperské Hory] as collecting locality, the name "Schmidt" in brackets possibly indicates that Opiz had obtained the voucher from Schmidt´s herbarium. It thus possibly belongs to the original material of Hippion obtusifolium F.W. Schmidt.
