π 11B and B/Ca measurements of the modern and fossil Porites corals from the east coast Hainan Island in the northern South China Sea
<p>This datasets contain the π <sup>11</sup>B and B/Ca determinations of three modern <em>Porites</em> corals and four ancient <em>Porites</em> collected from the east coast of Hainan Island in the northern South China Sea. The measurements of skeletal boron isotopes were carried out with a MC-ICP-MS, and the B/Ca was determined by ICP-MS. </p>

A Flat-lying Transitional Free Gas to Gas Hydrate System in a Sand Layer in the Qiongdongnan Basin of the South China Sea
<p>Most marine gas hydrate systems follow a vertical pattern with gas hydrate overlying free gas. Here we document the discovery of a novel flat-lying transitional gas to hydrate system in a horizontal sand layer in the Qiongdongnan Basin of the South China Sea. Eight wells were drilled by the Guangzhou Marine Geological Survey in 2021-2022 to investigate the occurrence and mechanisms responsible for the formation of the system. We describe a free gas-bearing sand reservoir at the center of the system sustained by advecting hot fluids and gas; away from the advecting zone, the cooler, surrounding sand reservoir is filled with gas hydrate. Observations at this site show that temperature has a large control on hydrate formation in sands and may be a key mechanism which allows gas migration and hydrate formation in high-saturation hydrate filled sands.</p>

Shifting Dynamics in International Trade Networks: A Longitudinal Analysis of Major Exporting Economies (1992-2020): A case of the US, China, India, Japan and South Korea
<p>This article aims to analyze the changes in trading networks by bringing out aspects of centrality and reciprocity among participating countries. The research considers the trade relations of five export countries, namely, The U.S., China, India, Japan, and South Korea from 1992 to 2020. We examine whether trade networks are truly becoming more bidirectional over the long term and how the political and economic crises that have occurred in the past 30 years affect the structure of trade networks. The article presents key findings on the changes in the network structure of international trade over the past 30 years. The network structure has become more reciprocal for most product categories, and the center of the trade network has shifted from the United States to China. The analysis also demonstrated that the center of the network has shifted from U to C for all product categories, except for raw materials. The study also highlights the significant impact of global events and crises on the international trade network structure, emphasizing the importance of considering geopolitical events and economic shocks in understanding trade dynamics.</p>
Three-dimensional morphology of the biramous appendages in Isoxys from the early Cambrian of South China, and its implications for early euarthropod evolution
<p>Early euarthropod evolution involved a major transition from lobopodian-like taxa to organisms featuring a segmented, well-sclerotized trunk (arthrodization) and limbs (arthropodization). However, the precise origin of a completely arthrodized trunk and arthropodized ventral biramous appendages remain controversial, as well as the early onset of anterior-posterior limb differentiation in stem-group euarthropods. New fossil material and micro-computed tomography inform the detailed morphology of the arthropodized biramous appendages in the carapace-bearing euarthropod <em>Isoxys curvirostratus </em>from the early Cambrian Chengjiang biota. In addition to well-developed grasping frontal appendages. <em>I. curvirostratus</em> possesses two batches of morphologically and functionally distinct biramous limbs. The first batch consists of four pairs of short cephalic appendages with robust endites with a feeding function, whereas the second batch has more elongate trunk appendages for locomotion. Critically, our new material shows that the trunk of <em>I. curvirostratus</em> was not arthrodized. The results of our phylogenetic analyses recover isoxyids as some of the earliest branching sclerotized euarthropods, and strenghens the hypothesis that arthropodized biramous appendage evolved before full body arthrodization.</p>
