Data from: Gigapixel big data movies provide cost‐effective seascape scale direct measurements of open‐access coastal human use such as recreational fisheries

Collecting data on unlicensed open‐access coastal activities, such as some types of recreational fishing, has often relied on telephone interviews selected from landline directories. However, this approach is becoming obsolete due to changes in communication technology such as a switch to unlisted mobile phones. Other methods, such as boat ramp interviews, are often impractical due to high labor cost. We trialed an autonomous, ultra‐high‐resolution photosampling method as a cost effect solution for direct measurements of a recreational fishery. Our sequential photosampling was batched processed using a novel software application to produce "big data" time series movies from a spatial subset of the fishery, and we validated this with a regional bus‐route survey and interviews with participants at access points. We also compared labor costs between these two methods. Most trailer boat users were recreational fishers targeting tuna spp. Our camera system closely matched trends in temporal variation from the larger scale regional survey, but as the camera data were at much higher frequency, we could additionally describe strong, daily variability in effort. Peaks were normally associated with weekends, but consecutive weekend tuna fishing competitions led to an anomaly of high effort across the normal weekday lulls. By reducing field time and batch processing imagery, Monthly labor costs for the camera sampling were a quarter of the bus‐route survey; and individual camera samples cost 2.5% of bus route samples to obtain. Gigapixel panoramic camera observations of fishing were representative of the temporal variability of regional fishing effort and could be used to develop a cost‐efficient index. High‐frequency sampling had the added benefit of being more likely to detect abnormal patterns of use. Combinations of remote sensing and on‐site interviews may provide a solution to describing highly variable effort in recreational fisheries while also validating activity and catch.

Data from: Video education versus face-to-face education on inhaler technique for patients with well-controlled or partly-controlled asthma: a phase IV, open-label, non-inferiority, multicenter, randomized, controlled trial

Background: Education on inhaler technique is critical for effective asthma treatment. However, traditionally used face-to-face education is a time-consuming, costly, and often laborious. The current study evaluated the efficacy of a newly developed video-based inhaler technique education method. Methods: A total of 184 subjects with well-controlled or partly-controlled asthma were enrolled from 12 hospitals in South Korea from 30 November 2015 to 01 June 2016. Subjects were randomly divided into two groups in a 1:1 ratio; a control group that received face-to-face education, and an study group that received video education. All subjects received fluticasone propionate plus salmeterol xinafoate (Fluterol® 250/50 inhalation capsules) for 12 weeks. The primary outcome measure was forced expiratory volume in the 1st second (FEV1) at 12 weeks. The secondary outcome measures were change in FEV1 at 4 weeks, change in asthma control test (ACT) score, and changes in various inhaler technique parameters. These measures were assessed with a non-inferiority margin of 10% between the control group and the study group. Results: FEV1 was significantly improved at 12 weeks in the control group and the study group. After adjustment, FEV1 improvement was not significantly inferior in the study group compared to the control group. The secondary outcome measures, including change in FEV1 at 4 weeks, ACT score, and various parameters pertaining to inhaler technique and satisfaction at 4 and 12 weeks did differ not significantly in the two groups. In subgroup analysis of elderly subjects and subjects with well-controlled asthma, FEV1 was significantly improved at 12 weeks in the study group but not the control group. Conclusion: The newly developed video education technique investigated functioned as a suitable substitute for face-to-face education on inhaler technique (dry powder inhalation capsule) in patients with stable asthma, particularly in elderly patients and patients with well-controlled asthma.

Bus Open Data Service GTFS archive

<p>This dataset consists of an archive of timetables data originally published by the <a href="https://www.bus-data.dft.gov.uk/">Bus Open Data Service</a> in the General Transit Feed Specification (GTFS) standard. The information mainly reflects local public transport services, such as bus, tram, and ferry. It covers all regions in Great Britain.</p> <p>The archive is compiled by taking snapshots of the GTFS data published since 2021. From February 2023, regular snapshots have been taken every Saturday and Tuesday. The timetables data provides specific details, such as the number, day, date, route, and time.</p> <p>The time period coverage of this version is from 2021 to 2023, with consistency since February 2023.</p>

Photizo: an open-source library for cross-sample analysis of FTIR spectroscopy data

<p>With continually improved instrumentation, Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) microspectroscopy can now be used to capture thousands of high-resolution spectra for chemical characterisation of a sample. The spatially resolved nature of this method lends itself well to histological characterisation of complex biological specimens. However, commercial software currently available can make joint analysis of multiple samples challenging and, for large datasets, computationally infeasible. In order to overcome these limitations, we have developed Photizo - an open-source Python library for spectral analysis which includes functions for pre-processing, visualisation and downstream analysis, including principal component analysis, clustering, macromolecular quantification and biochemical mapping. This library can be used for analysis of spectroscopy data without a spatial component, as well as spatially-resolved data, such as data obtained via infrared (IR) microspectroscopy in scanning mode and IR imaging by focal plane array (FPA) detector. The data set made available here was FTIR microspectroscopy spatially resolved data&nbsp;used for demonstrating&nbsp;cross-sample analysis using Photizo including&nbsp;example metadata.&nbsp;</p>

Grey-brick buildings, an open data set of calibrated RC models of Dutch residential building heat dynamics

<p>Building thermal modeling is the founding stone upon which numerous carbon reduction strategies in the building sector are built. Yet, as of today, little to no interpretable and calibrated models founded on real-world measurements have been open-sourced. This work attempts to remedy this deficiency and renders public improved results of a recently published stochastic model identification of building heat dynamics study evaluated over 225 Dutch residential buildings. Calibrated lumped resistance-capacity models are made available, along with thermal characterizations of the buildings and reported meta-data. The paper discusses how open-access building thermal models support a collection of building service applications such as building performance benchmarks, model-based control, demand-side management, policy impact assessment, and data augmentation. Insights provided present a starting point for open access benchmarks of building thermal dynamics, paving the way toward new scientific discoveries from common standards.</p>

<p>The database for a catalog of newly discovered close binary open clusters in the Milky Way from Gaia DR3.</p> <p>It corresponds to the study of Zhongmu Li, Zhanpeng Zhu in 2024, which was submitted to AJ. When one use these data, please cite to that work. &nbsp;</p> <p>The database contains four parts, i.e., a parameter file and four directories. They are explained as follows.</p> <p>The file of ''data_tableI.csv'' gives the spatial positions and parallaxs of 13 newly discovered close binary open clusters (CBOCs).</p> <p>There are 11 columns in this file. The colums are for Name1,&nbsp; RA1, DEC1, Parallax1, Rtidal1, Name2, RA2, DEC2, Parallax2, Rtidal2 respectively.&nbsp;</p> <p>They correspond to the contents of a manuscript that was submitted to AJ.</p> <p>The file of ''data_tableII.csv'' contains the data of&nbsp; the fundamental parameters of 13 newly discovered CBOCs, together with their astrometric information. PBOC means primordial binary open cluster member. Distance modulus, color excess, age, and metal abundance of the clusters were obtained by fitting Parsec isochrones and Powerful&nbsp; CMD code. Proper motion data for the clusters were provided by HR23.</p> <p>Columns 3-14 show the basic parameters (distance modulus, color excess, age, and metal abundance) and errors of the cluster. Columns 15-16 are the proper motion data for the clusters. Column 17 is the number of member stars of the cluster.</p> <p>The file of ''data_tableIII.csv'' contains the data of Parameters for checking gravitationally bound and unbound cluster pairs. The subscripts 1 and 2 indicate the first and second sub-clusters respectively.&nbsp;Rroche is the Roche radius. RV 1, RV 2 and &Delta;RV denote the radial velocities of two member clusters and their difference. Porb and Vorb denote orbital period and orbital velocity.</p> <p>There are 13 columns in this file. The colums are for Name1, Name2, d12, r1, r2, Rroche, Mass1, Mass2, Porb, RV1, RV2, &Delta;RV, Vorb respectively.&nbsp;</p> <p>The file of ''memeber_allp.txt'' gives the list of member stars of 13 pairs of clusters. The models includes both OA embargo data and the relative growth rates of different OA types over time, based on the OA status of 70 million journal articles published between 1950 and 2019.</p> <p>The study also looks at article usage data, analyzing the proportion of views to OA articles vs views to articles which are closed access. Signal processing techniques are used to model how these viewership patterns change over time. Viewership data is based on 2.8 million uses of the Unpaywall browser extension in July 2019.</p> <p>We found that Green, Gold, and Hybrid papers receive more views than their Closed or Bronze counterparts, particularly Green papers made available within a year of publication. We also found that the proportion of Green, Gold, and Hybrid articles is growing most quickly.</p> <p>In 2019:</p> <ul> <li> <p>31% of all journal articles are available as OA</p> </li> <li> <p>52% of article views are to OA articles</p> </li> </ul> <p>Given existing trends, we estimate that by 2025:</p> <ul> <li> <p>44% of all journal articles will be available as OA</p> </li> <li> <p>70% of article views will be to OA articles</p> </li> </ul> <p>The declining relevance of closed access articles is likely to change the landscape of scholarly communication in the years to come.</p>
