Prophybiotics for in-ovo stimulation; validation of effects on guthealth and production of broiler chickens.
<p><span>The current study was conducted to validate the effects of <em>in-ovo </em>application of the selected prophybiotic (<em>L. mesenteroides + </em>garlic aqueous extract) as opposed to the use of probiotics alone on the gut health and production parameters of ROSS308 broiler chickens. <span> </span>To our knowledge, our study is the first to use a prophybiotic combination as well as a <em>Leuconostoc mesenteroides </em>strain in an <em>in-ovo </em>application in poultry.</span></p>

<h1>Mutually-Validated Tilt Angle Dataset</h1> <p>This dataset provides reliable sunspot group/active region(AR) tilt angle data and several other parameters from 1996 to 2018.</p> <h1>Overview</h1> <p>The dataset is generated by mutually validating two existing datasets: (1) <strong>A-live-homogeneous-database-of-solar-active-regions</strong> by Ruihui Wang, Jie Jiang and Yukun Luo (<strong>WJL</strong>), and (2) <strong>Debrecen Photoheliographic Data sunspot catalogue</strong> by Baranyi, T., Győri, L. and Ludmány, A. (<strong>DPD</strong>). Machine-learning-based validation of Microsoft Azure Kinect in measuring gait profiles
<p>The dataset was used to validate Microsoft Azure Kinect in measuring gait profiles, employing machine learning techniques to investigate the impact of residual errors due to environmental, methodological, and processing factors on the accuracy of gait profile assessments. Data were collected from healthy and post-stroke subjects using a motion capture system and a 3D camera-based system with MAK, and corresponding gait profiles were estimated and compiled into a dataset. Validation of urine p-cresol glucuronide as renal cell carcinoma non-invasive biomarker
<p><strong>Description of the study</strong>: Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) stands among the most lethal urological malignancies. Most RCCs are incidentally diagnosed as initial symptoms are unspecific. Novel, minimally-invasive diagnostic and prognostic methods for RCC are needed, ideally in urine.</p> <p>Using UPLC-Q-ToF MS untargeted metabolomic analysis in urine, we previously revealed p-cresol glucuronide as potential RCC diagnostic marker. Additionally, urine samples one-year post-nephrectomy revealed isobutyryl-L-carnitine and L-proline betaine as potential RCC prognostic markers. Our present aim was to validate these differences in an independent cohort of RCC patients and healthy controls to strengthen their value as non-invasive biomarkers.</p> <p>In an independent cohort of 69 RCC patients and 52 controls we validated an increase in p-cresol glucuronide in urine from patients at diagnosis compared to controls (<em>P</em>=0.0043). It remained increased one-year post-nephrectomy (<em>P</em>=0.0288). The value of p-cresol glucuronide for RCC diagnosis was assessed with ROC curves analysis (AUC=0.66, 95% Confidence Interval 0.56-0.76). The role of isobutyryl-L-carnitine and <a name="_Hlk172707445"></a>L-proline betaine as prognostic markers could not be validated and will require a larger cohort.</p> <p>Our findings confirm the value of p-cresol glucuronide in urine as diagnostic marker for RCC in an independent cohort. This non-invasive method holds promise for enhancing patient care by reducing the need for potentially risky diagnostic procedures. Further metaproteomics-oriented approaches towards the tyrosine oxidation pathway and microbiota metagenomics studies may promote a holistic management of RCC.</p> <p><strong>Description of the data:</strong></p> <p>We provided data in .d format adquired with Agilent.</p> <p> </p> <p> </p>

A cross sectional study on adaptation and initial validation of a test to evaluate health claims among high school students – Croatian version
<p>Objectives: We validated the Croatian version of the test using multiple-choice questions (MCQs) from the Claim Evaluation Tools item bank of the Informed Health Choices project, and measured the ability of high school students to appraise health claims.</p> <p>Setting: 16 high schools from the urban agglomeration of the city of Split, Croatia.</p> <p>Participants: Final year high school students of at least 18 years of age.</p> <p>Interventions: 18 MCQs from the item bank considered relevant for high school students were translated. After face-validity testing, the questionnaire was piloted and sent to a convenient sample of 302 high school students.</p> <p>Primary and secondary outcome measures: Difficulty and discrimination indices were calculated for each MCQ to determine the validity of translation and the weight of MCQs. We assessed basic metric characteristics and performed initial validation of the test. Two tests were created, the full (18 MCQs) and the short version (12 MCQs). We analysed differences in test score according to gender and school.</p> <p>Results: The response rate was 96% (75% female respondents). Metric characteristics of both tests were satisfactory (Cronbach α=0.71 for the full and α=0.73 for the short version). The mean score (± standard deviation) for the full version was 11.15±3.43 and 8.13±2.76 for the short version. There were 6 easy and 12 moderately difficult questions. Questions concerning effectiveness and dissimilar comparison groups were answered correctly by fewer than 40% of students. Female students and those from grammar and health schools scored higher on both tests.</p> <p>Conclusions: Both tests showed good metric characteristics and may be used for quick and reliable assessments of adolescents' ability to appraise health claims. They may be used to identify needs and inform development of educational activities to foster critical thinking about health among adolescents</p>

The validation of new phase-dependent gait stability measures: a modelling approach
<p><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span><span>Identification of individuals at risk of falling is important when designing fall prevention methods. Current stability measures that estimate gait stability and robustness appear limited in predicting falls in older adults. Inspired by recent findings of phase-dependent local stability changes within a gait cycle, we used compass-walker models to test several phase-dependent stability metrics for their usefulness to predict gait robustness. These metrics are closely related to the often-employed maximum finite-time Lyapunov exponent and maximum Floquet multiplier. They entail linearizing the system in a rotating hypersurface orthogonal to the period-one solution, and estimating the local divergence rate of the swing phases and the foot strikes. We correlated the metrics with the gait robustness of two compass walker models with either point or circular feet to estimate their prediction accuracy. To also test for the metrics' invariance under coordinate transform, we represented the point-feet walker in both Euler-Lagrange and Hamiltonian canonical form. Our simulations revealed that for most of the metrics, correlations differ between models and also change under coordinate transforms, severely limiting the prediction accuracy of gait robustness. The only exception that consistently correlated with gait robustness is the divergence of foot strikes. These results admit challenges of using phase-dependent stability metrics as objective measure to quantify gait robustness.</span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></span></p>

French Validation of the Boyd and Zimbardo (1997) Transcendental-Future Time Perspective Scale.
<p>Focusing on future temporal perspectives, the Transcendantal-Future Time Perspective scale (TFTP; Boyd and Zimbardo 1997) is specifically designed to measure beliefs about life after death as a one-dimensional, 10-item instrument. We sought in this study to contribute to the French validation of the TFTP scale in a French sample of 256 participants (202 females, 54 males) with a mean age of 34,44 years (<em>SD</em> = 12.62). Content validity was assessed using CFC-14, ZTPI-15, and Schwartz’s ten value measure. Independent variables such as religious affiliation and level of religious practice were also included, as well as control variables related to past experience of confrontation with death. Confirmatory Factor Analysis validated the unidimensionality of the French version of the TFTP scale. Content validity was demonstrated with ZTPI-Future, and nomological validity was confirmed. The findings from this study support the validity of TFTP for assessing cognitions about the future in a French context, in reference to the imagined death of the body and beyond.</p>
