Land use, 1999, Ipswich Watershed, Parker Watershed, Plum Island Ecosystem, Massachusetts - vector
The MassGIS Land Use datalayer has 37 land use classifications interpreted from 1:25,000 aerial photography. Coverage is complete statewide for 1971, 1985, and 1999. Additionally, more than half the state was interpreted from aerial photography flown during 1990, 1991, 1992, 1995 or 1997. The 15 towns on Cape Cod also contain land use data for 1951. Please see the Land Use Status Map, which displays the years for which land use data were interpreted for each town. In ArcSDE the layer is named LANDUSE_POLY. Note: Complete metadata is available within the downloaded zip file. This metadata can be viewed with ESRI ArcGIS software, and can be exported to FGDC and ISO metadata formats.
Land use, 2005, Ipswich Watershed, Parker Watershed, Plum Island Ecosystem, Massachusetts - vector
This is a statewide, seamless digital dataset of land use / land cover for the State of Massachusetts derived using semi-automated methods and based on digital imagery captured in 2005 with 0.5 m pixel resolution. The project area encompasses the State of Massachusetts. The minimum mapping unit (MMU) for this dataset is 1 acre overall for the dataset. However, there are some exceptions: a MMU of 0.5 acre has been used for rural areas where there may be isolated residential, commercial, or industrial structures. In such cases, areas less than 1 acre and more than about 0.5 acre are mapped. In urban areas, the MMU is 1 acre. This implies that a water tower or a communication tower in the middle of a residential or commercial area may not be mapped out separately if it occupies less than 1 acre of land. In areas where assessor parcel data was available, Multi-family Residential, Commercial, and Industrial areas may be as small as 0.25 acre. The land use classification scheme used for these data is based on a coding schema used in previous land use datasets in Massachusetts with some modifications for the 2005 classification. Note: Complete metadata is available within the downloaded zip file. This metadata can be viewed with ESRI ArcGIS software, and can be exported to FGDC and ISO metadata formats.
Zoning districts, Ipswich Watershed, Parker Watershed, Plum Island Ecosystem, Massachusetts - vector
The MassGIS zoning datalayer represents the boundaries of municipal zoning districts. Because zoning is established at the town level, there is no standard district classification across the state. While districts in different towns may have similar or even identical names, their definitions are often quite different. Generalized codes have been added to make these data useful for regional display. A related table contains detailed information about the districts such as setbacks or text descriptions from each town’s zoning bylaws. Data are available for all communities. (Only primary district information is available for the City of Boston, not additional infomation for its bylaws.) MassGIS stores the data in a statewide ArcSDE layer named ZONING_POLY. Zoning district boundaries change frequently and MassGIS currently has no formal process in place to regularly update these coverages. These data should therefore be used for regional analysis only and not as official zoning maps. The town’s own official zoning map and current copy of the by-law should be considered as the final word on zoning boundary questions or issues. In August, 2007, data were updated for these 93 towns: Adams, Agawam, Amherst, Aquinnah, Ashburnham, Ashby, Athol, Ayer, Belchertown, Billerica, Bourne, Brewster, Chatham, Chelmsford, Cheshire, Chester, Chesterfield, Chicopee, Chilmark, Clarksburg, Clinton, Cummington, Dalton, Dennis, East Longmeadow, Edgartown, Egremont, Falmouth, Fitchburg, Gardner, Georgetown, Gosnold, Granby, Great Barrington, Groton, Hadley, Hampden, Harvard, Hatfield, Hubbardston, Huntington, Lancaster, Lanesborough, Lawrence, Lee, Lenox, Leominster, Lowell, Ludlow, Lunenburg, Mashpee, Monson, Monterey, New Ashford, North Adams, Northampton, Oak Bluffs, Otis, Palmer, Petersham, Phillipston, Pittsfield, Richmond, Rowley, Royalston, Russell, Salisbury, Sandisfield, Sheffield, Shirley, South Hadley, Southampton, Southwick, Sterling, Stockbridge, Templeton, Tisbury, Townsend, Tru

The geographic coverage for a single TIGER/Line file is a county or statistical equivalent entity, with the coverage area based on January 1, 2000 legal boundaries. A complete set of Census 2000 TIGER/Line files includes all counties and statistically equivalent entities in the United States, Puerto Rico, and the Island Areas.
