Low-frequency hearing thresholds improve as high-frequency hearing sensitivity deteriorates between young adulthood and middle age in normally hearing people
<p>Hearing sensitivity changes throughout a person's lifetime. This work aimed to describe changes in pure-tone audiometric (PTA) thresholds that occur in the transition from young adulthood to middle age in 121 adults with normal or nearly normal hearing. Results showed that older people had worse high-frequency (4000-8000 Hz) thresholds but unexpectedly better low-frequency (125-500 Hz) thresholds than younger individuals, suggesting that hearing sensitivity in the low-frequency range may improve with age. The improvement of low-frequency thresholds may be part of a central compensation for age-related deterioration of high-frequency hearing sensitivity. Further studies of age-related changes in low-frequency hearing sensitivity are needed to confirm our findings.</p>

Physiography, foraging mobility, and the first peopling of Sahul
<p><strong>The route and speed of Sahul colonization by Homo sapiens remains a major research question in archaeology. Here, we introduce an approach which models the impact of the physical environment on human mobility by combining time-evolving landscapes with Lévy walk foraging patterns, this latter accounting for a combination of short-distance steps and occasional longer moves that hunter-gatherers likely utilized forefficient exploration of new environments. Our results suggest a wave of dispersal radiating across Sahul following riverine corridors and coastlines.</strong> <strong>Estimated migration speeds, based on archaeological sites and predicted travelled distances, fall within previously reported range from Sahul and other regions. From our mechanistic movement simulations, we then analyse the likelihood of archaeological sites and highlight areas in Australia that hold archaeological potential. Our approach complements existing methods and provides interesting perspectives on the Pleistocene archaeology of Sahul that could be applied to other regions around the world.</strong></p>

Principal component analysis as an efficient method for capturing multivariate brain signatures of complex disorders-ENIGMA study in people with bipolar disorders and obesity
<p>Multivariate techniques better fit the anatomy of complex neuropsychiatric disorders which are characterized not by alterations in a single region, but rather by variations across distributed brain networks. Here, we used principal component analysis (PCA) to identify patterns of covariance across brain regions and relate them to clinical and demographic variables in a large generalizable dataset of individuals with bipolar disorders and controls. We then compared performance of PCA and clustering on identical sample to identify which methodology was better in capturing links between brain and clinical measures. Using data from the ENIGMA-BD working group, we investigated T1-weighted structural MRI data from 2436 participants with BD and healthy controls, and applied PCA to cortical thickness and surface area measures. We then studied the association of principal components with clinical and demographic variables using mixed regression models. We compared the PCA model with our prior clustering analyses of the same data and also tested it in a replication sample of 327 participants with BD or schizophrenia and healthy controls. The first principal component, which indexed a greater cortical thickness across all 68 cortical regions, was negatively associated with BD, BMI, antipsychotic medications, and age and was positively associated with Li treatment. PCA demonstrated superior goodness of fit to clustering when predicting diagnosis and BMI. Moreover, applying the PCA model to the replication sample yielded significant differences in cortical thickness between healthy controls and individuals with BD or schizophrenia. Cortical thickness in the same widespread regional network as determined by PCA was negatively associated with different clinical and demographic variables, including diagnosis, age, BMI, and treatment with antipsychotic medications or lithium. PCA outperformed clustering and provided an easy-to-use and interpret method to study multivariate associations between brain structure and system-level variables. </p>
An experimental test of the impact of avian diversity on attentional benefits and enjoyment of people experiencing urban green-space
<p>Biodiversity may play a key role in generating the well-being benefits of visiting green-spaces.</p> <p>The ability of people to accurately perceive variation in biodiversity is, however, unclear and evidence supporting links between biodiversity exposure and well-being outcomes remains equivocal. In part, this is due to the paucity of controlled experimental studies that deal adequately with confounding factors that covary with biodiversity.</p> <p>Attention restoration theory (ART) proposes that natural environments contain many softly fascinating stimuli that provide visitors with a sense of separation from their normal settings and routines, switching off direct attention and allowing recovery from attention fatigue. Increased biodiversity could increase these stimuli, and ART therefore potentially provides a mediating effect linking biodiversity to well-being.</p> <p>Here, we conduct a controlled experiment in which participants virtually experience urban green-space containing high and low levels of avian biodiversity (altered by manipulating bird song).</p> <p>Respondents accurately identified the contrast in biodiversity and reported greater enjoyment of the high biodiversity treatment than the low diversity control. Higher biodiversity did not, however, elicit greater self-reported stimulation or restoration, and did not increase perceived restorativeness scores or attentional capacity (quantified using the Digit Span Backwards attention test).</p> <p>Respondents that were more connected to nature, however, had greater attentional capacity following exposure to green-space.</p> <p>Our study provides rare experimental evidence that people can accurately detect variation in biodiversity, that high avian diversity boosts visitor perceptions of urban green-space quality, and that people with increased nature connectedness show enhanced attentional capacity.</p>

<p>A synthetic dataset for <em>visual fallen people detection </em>comprising images extracted from the highly photo-realistic video game Grand Theft Auto V developed by Rockstar North. Each image is labeled by the game engine providing bounding boxes and statuses (fallen or non-fallen) of people present in the scene.<br> The dataset comprises 6,071 synthetic images depicting 7,456 fallen and 26,125 non-fallen pedestrian instances in various looks, camera positions, background scenes, lightning, and occlusion conditions.</p>

Data from: Behaviour changes techniques that constitute effective planning interventions to improve physical activity and diet behaviour for people with chronic conditions: a systematic review
<p><span>Objectives: Action planning is a brief and effective behaviour change technique (BCT) to improve physical activity (PA) and diet behaviour (DB).</span><span> This study</span><span> aimed to identify critical BCTs and </span><span>mechanisms of action</span><span> (MoA) to interpret the effectiveness of planning interventions based on the health action process approach (HAPA) model.</span></p> <p><span>Design: Systematic review</span></p> <p><span>Data Sources: PubMed, Web of Science, CIHNAL (EBSCO), PsycInfo (EBSCO), Psychology and Behavioural Sciences Collection (EBSCO), psyARTICLES, and Medline were searched for studies from January 1990 to September 2021 published in English.</span></p> <p><span>Eligibility Criteria: Experiment involving action planning intervention to improve PA or DB in community-dwelling adult patients with chronic conditions.</span></p> <p><span>Data extraction and synthesis: Two reviewers independently coded the planning interventions into BCT combinations and MoA </span><span>assemblies</span><span>. Outcome was dichotomized according </span><span>to </span><span>the statistical power and Cohen's d. The Cochrane risk of bias assessment tool and the Risk of Bias in </span><span>Nonrandomized</span><span> Studies of Intervention assessment tool were used to assess the quality of RCTs and non-RCTs</span><span>, respectively</span><span>.</span></p> <p><span>Results: From the 52 included studies, 46 BCTs were identified and linked to 21 MoAs. Long-term facilitators for planning intervention </span><span>included 'self</span><span>-monitoring of behaviour', 'problem solving', 'instruction on how to perform the behaviour', and 'goal setting (behaviour)'. The most frequently occurring MoA was "beliefs about capabilities". </span><span>The</span><span> effective intervention groups had higher MoA scores that corresponded to the HAPA </span><span>model</span><span> constructs than </span><span>the </span><span>ineffective groups.</span></p> <p><span>Conclusions:</span><span> The findings</span><span> from this review may inform scientific and effective planning intervention designs for community-dwelling people with chronic conditions in the future.</span></p>
Cisgender Homosexual Body in Dictatorial People's Republic of China
<p>In making the set of my conceptual photography work available to the psychotherapeutic and psychoanalytic societies, two main rationales and objectives have been considered. First and foremost is to generate some intermediating artifacts for the cisgender homosexual community in self-help with mental and psychological health with low cost to the cisgender homosexual males in dire humanitarian situations. The second is to address the pathological dictatorial propagated and propagating controls in and on the civil society. This is the primary cause of mental health disparages on the LGBTQIA<sup>+</sup> persons, especially with gross privacy transgressions in collecting psychological data for the reverse psychological ends of the dictatorial group. This means that psychological and psychoanalytic autonomies of the individuals are paramount and necessary in clinical and therapeutic self-care! The objective of the dataset is on the self-awareness and self-consciousness building on the internal desires of the cisgender homosexual individuals. Such consciousnesses are necessary for the sexual and psychosocial health of the marginalized sexual and gender population, especially under extreme and subtle coercive structures from the permanent five member of the United Nations Security Council with vectorized artificial intelligence backend server manipulations. Apart from eliminating the engraved dictatorial psychic presences in the public mental constructs with the acquired dataset, I also hope that the visibilities of cisgender homosexual emotional structures can be achieved in the intersubjective realm of psychosociology with the gendered power intrusions that often result in triggering the suicidal death wishes of the persons. I hope with the sexological hypnosis data, psychological and mental resilience of the cisgender homosexual male population can be improved</p>
