Household Survey in Nairobi (Kibera & Eastleigh) for the "Urban Waterscapes and the Pandemic" research project

"Urban Waterscapes and the Pandemic" research project: The Covid-19 pandemic has brought to the fore the importance of water access as an essential service protecting human health. Yet, the prevention of human-to-human transmission of the novel virus may be impacted by uneven geographies of water access. The pandemic presented a dilemma in water-deprived urban areas as residents needed to find ways to adapt to new hygiene standards and local Covid-19 responses. Focusing on Nairobi, Kenya’s capital with historically uneven and highly contested geographies of water, we mobilized the concept of waterscapes in order to understand how Nairobi’s waterscapes have changed during the pandemic; how these waterscape changes relate to new requirements; and how far they reflect adaptive creativity or re-produce urban fragmentation. Funded by DFG, the project is a 12-month-long collaboration between IPS, the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Nairobi, and the British Institute for Eastern Africa.

Household survey in Kibera and Eastleigh: As part of the "Urban Waterscapes and the Pandemic" research project, the project team conducted a household survey in two target areas of Nairobi, namely Kibera and Eastleigh. The survey was conducted in April and May 2022 with the support of 11 enumerators. Spread purposefully over four sub-locations in each target area, the survey included more than 400 respondents per area. The final data set has been quality-checked and cleaned for further analysis; personal details about the respondents and the enumerators that may reveal their identity have been removed.

Replication Data for "Mapping the Structure and Evolution of Software Testing Research Over the Past Three Decades"

In this research (publication included in the package), we have used author-assigned keywords as a quantitative data source for understanding the connections between keywords and research topics in software testing research, based on a large sample of studies from Scopus.

We apply co-word analysis to map the topology of testing research as a network where author-assigned keywords are connected by edges indicating co-occurrence in publications. Keywords are clustered based on edge density and frequency of connection. We examine the most popular keywords, summarize clusters into high-level research topics, examine how topics connect, and examine how the field is changing. This package contains the map and network files used to perform our analyses, as well as the publication sample.

Training dataset from the Da Vinci Research Kit

The use of data sets are getting more relevance in surgical robotics since they can be used to recognise and automate tasks in the lab. Also, it allows to use a common data set to compare different algorithms and methods. The objective of this work is to provide a complete data set of several training tasks that surgeons perform to improve their skills. For this purpose, the Da Vinci research kit has been used to perform a different training tasks. The obtained data set includes all the information provided by the da Vinci robot together with the corresponding video from the camera. Kinematic data has been collected at 50 frames per seconds, and images at 15 frames per seconds. All the information has been carefully timestamped and provided in a readable csv format. The application used to retrieve the information from the da Vinci research kit, as well as tools to access the information are also provided.

Data for "Researchers and their data. A study based on the use of the word data in scholarly articles"

Data is one of the most used terms in scientific vocabulary. This article focusses on the relationship between data and research by analyzing the contexts of occurrence of the word data in a corpus of 72,471 research articles (1980-2012) from two distinct fields (Social sciences, Physical sciences). The aim is to shed light on the issues raised by research on data, namely the difficulty of defining what is considered as data, the transformations that data undergo during the research process and how they gain value for researchers who hold them. Relying on the distribution of occurrences throughout the texts and over time, it demonstrates that the word data mostly occurs at the beginning and at the end of research articles. Adjectives and verbs accompanying the noun data turn out to be even more important than data itself in specifying data. The increase in the use of possessive pronouns at the end of the articles reveals that authors tend to claim ownership of their data at the very end of the research process. Our research demonstrates that even if data handling operations are increasingly frequent, they are still described with imprecise verbs that do not reflect the complexity of these transformations.
