Medieval Tombstone, Montemor-o-Novo

Tombstone in semi-rectangular shape, made out of marble, with an orbicular cross, usually known as the "Templar cross". This piece is actually in deposit at the Museum of the Convento de S. Domingos, in Montemor-o-Novo. Provenance: This piece comes from the Castle of Montemor-o-Novo, probably from the archaeological deposit of the Church of Santiago, which existed there until the 1980s. In the medieval village inside the fortified walls there were four parish churches (Santa Maria da Vila, Santa Maria do Bispo, Santiago and S. João Baptista), and cemetaries were built around each one. During the Middle Ages it was customary to mark the graves with tombstones, which were nothing more than slabs of stone placed standing straight, on which were engraved religious symbols and on which sometimes was indicated the profession of the deceased. This set of stelae comes safely from the ancient medieval cemeteries inside the castle, although it is not possible to determine to which church (s) it was associated. Astrolabe - medieval - reconstruction

An astrolabe is an astronomical instrument enabling the user to identify stars and planets and their positions as well as being an aid to navigation. I have based this model on an instrument in the collection of the British Museum (1909,0617.1) dating back to 1326 - click this link for more information https://www.britishmuseum.org/collection/object/H_1909-0617-1 To learn more about the use of these instruments click this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Astrolabe I have used images for reference that are copyright of the Trustees of the British Museum and they are for non commerial use only - so I have made this model 'non-commercial use' I made the model in Zbrush and created a set of alphas in Procreate on the ipad closely following the markings on the original instrument. I used these in Substance Painter to create the etched details. This model is not really for 3d printing - the markings will not appear on the print. Source: Objaverse 1.0 / Sketchfab
