Research Software Funders Global South

<p>The Research Software Alliance&#39;s (ReSA) mission is to bring research software communities together to collaborate on the advancement of research software. Given the ReSA mission, it is important to understand the landscape of communities involved with research software. In 2020, ReSA completed an initial exercise to scope the international research software community landscape. This work was reported by ReSA&#39;s Software Landscape Analysis task force via a <a href="https://www.researchsoft.org/blog/2020-03/">blog post</a>. The majority of the communities in the previous analysis represented the global north. To improve the extent of this landscape analysis, ReSA announced a paid opportunity for short-term contractors located in <a href="https://www.researchsoft.org/2022-mapping/">the global south</a> to collect data on communities and funders in their region in early 2022. This document describes how the work was undertaken, a summary of findings, the gaps and opportunities perceived by the data collectors and some highlights. This work identified 126 organisations and communities and 62&nbsp; funder bodies that support research software in the global south. Research data for "Exploring the configurational space of amorphous graphene with machine-learned atomic energies"

<p>This dataset supports the paper: &quot;Exploring the configurational space of amorphous graphene with machine-learned atomic energies&quot; (<a href="https://doi.org/10.1039/D2SC04326B">https://doi.org/10.1039/D2SC04326B</a>).</p> <p>Trajectory data for the 200-atom structures (Fig. 3)&nbsp;and the final configurations for the 612-atom structures as well as the GAP-17-optimised 610-atom structure from Toh et al are provided (Fig. 4). Additionally, the structures used for data analysis in Fig. 5 are given.</p> <p>The files&nbsp;are&nbsp;in extended xyz&nbsp;(.xyz) format and contain&nbsp;the raw data for coordinates, forces, and&nbsp;atomic energies (labelled &#39;c_1&#39;). The files also contain&nbsp;the atomic energies relative to pristine graphene, labelled &quot;Energy_per_atom&quot;, and the locally averaged energy relative to pristine graphene,&nbsp;labelled &quot;NN_Energy_per_atom&quot;. Topological information is included&nbsp;at the end of the .xyz file&nbsp;for the 612-atom structures (&#39;fig_4&#39;/)&nbsp;and for the structures in &#39;fig_5/&#39;.</p> <p>All raw atomic&nbsp;energies were computed using LAMMPS default settings and were output with six significant figures, with the exception of the Toh et al. structure (for which&nbsp;ASE was used,&nbsp;outputting&nbsp;a higher number of significant figures).&nbsp;</p> <p>The data can be read using, for example,&nbsp;the Atomic Simulation Environment (ASE), or visualised using Ovito.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p>

Research Data Management: Data Lifecycle

<p>This diagram has been created by the team of data steward at the University of Bologna (Alma Mater Studiorum - Universit&agrave; di Bologna, UniBo) in October 2022. It proposes a data lifecycle model inspired by the University of Virginia Library&rsquo;s model (<a href="https://guides.lib.virginia.edu/c.php?g=515290&amp;p=3522215">https://guides.lib.virginia.edu/c.php?g=515290&amp;p=3522215</a>). It has been developed in parallel to the Research Data Management Decision Tree, available here: <a href="https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7190004">https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.7190004</a></p> <p>Emphasis is put on a careful planning of data management, which should always precede data collection (and re-use of existing data). A reference to the opportunity of creating and maintaining a Data Management Plan (DMP) has been added. This is not always compulsory, but is increasingly required by funders.</p> <p>Collecting, analysing and storing data (and possibly sharing them with a group) remain at the heart of the lifecycle, constituting what we called &ldquo;data handling&rdquo;. Here, the process is not linear, and researchers tend to move from one stage to another in a recursive fashion. &nbsp;</p> <p>At any point during data handling, it is possible to deposit data: the responsibility for storing and safekeeping is passed on to the repository, the time-scale shifts from short-term to long-term, and data become citable (and possibly discoverable) by the wider scholarly community and beyond. Importantly, deposited data can always be re-used as the basis for a new round of collection/analysis/storage that will lead to a new deposit, and so on.</p>

Social Network analysis on European countries involved in agroecology research

<p>All the 124 (68 European and 56 Transnational) agroecology research projects identified in the mapping activities carried out by the task 1.3 of the AE4EU project were used to perform a weighted social network analysis (SNA) having the participating countries as nodes and collaborations in projects as edges.</p> <p>This dataset contains data related to this SNA and consists of two sheets:</p> <ul> <li><strong>Indexes</strong> where values of some measures for each identified country in the social network analysis are reported (number of European agroecological research projects coordinated by the country; number&nbsp; of transnational agroecological research projects coordinated by the country; Degree Centrality; Closeness Centrality)</li> <li><strong>Edge_weights</strong> where the weights for each edge between two countries are provided according to the times two countries cooperated together for a European or a transnational project.</li> </ul>

PLOS ONE – a case study of citation analysis of research papers based on the data in an open citation index (The OpenCitations Corpus)

<p>This is a dataset used in and produced by research described in article "PLOS ONE - a case study of citation analysis of research papers based on the data in an open citation index (The OpenCitations Corpus)" that is translation of the original Polish text "PLOS ONE – studium przypadku analizy cytowań prac naukowych na podstawie danych otwartego indeksu cytowań (OpenCitations Corpus)" published by EBiB bulletin (2017, No 176).</p> <p>Data were extracted, as nodes (PLOS_cited_nodes.csv) and edges (PLOS_edges.csv) files from the OpenCitations Corpus (http://opencitations.net/download) on 2017.07.25 and describe all cited papers published by PLOS ONE (nodes), and all citing relations (edges). The research was conducted using Gephi (https://gephi.org/) platform so the same source data are also avaiable as GEXF file (for "one-click" import capabilities). In addition, the same data are published in NET format (but be warned that due to this format limitations, information about the publication year of papers has been lost) used by PAJEK platform, as it is very popular tool for analysis of network data.</p> <p>Published figures have prefix names corresponding to figures captions in the original paper, where they have been thoroughly discussed. This data set contains also the additional figure not published in the article, showing most cited paper with citing chains of articles of lenght not greater than 3.<br> These pictures have much better quality than those published in the article, which allows for "drill down"/zoom-in analysis and large format printing.</p>
