Automatic extraction of opinions of users of social networks on reproductive behavior issues

<p>The database contains an upload of text comments in Russian from the social network Vkontakte in .tsv&nbsp;format (UTF-8 encoding). Comments are collected from communities, which discuss pregnancy, childhood, motherhood, paternity, etc.&nbsp;Comments are collected from communities, which discuss pregnancy, childhood, motherhood, paternity, etc.&nbsp;<br> The database contains train, test and valid sets for machine learning processing.&nbsp;For the analysis of opinions in the field of reproductive behavior,&nbsp;nine groups of the social network Vkontakte were selected, in the names or descriptions of which the words &quot;childfree&quot; and their variations were clearly present, and 341 groups, in the names or descriptions of which the keywords &quot;mother&quot;, &quot; mothers &quot;,&quot; children &quot;, etc.&nbsp;and the number of subscribers of which was more than 10,000 people. This distribution of groups depended on the different activity of groups -&nbsp;supporters of a childless lifestyle produced significantly more posts and comments on our topics. Using data from different groups of the social&nbsp;network Vkontakte avoids data homogeneity - one of the weak points of sentiment analysis. Thus, the presented database is suitable for the analysis&nbsp;of specific demographic groups, which we conditionally called &ldquo;anti-natalists&rdquo; and &ldquo;pronatalists&rdquo;. Note that in the group of pronatalists there&nbsp;are largely representatives of a small child model of reproductive behavior.&nbsp;The sample contains data about&nbsp;stance&nbsp;on 6 topics: &quot;maternity capital / benefits&quot;, &quot;abortion&quot;, &quot;large families&quot;, &quot;childlessness&quot;, &quot;parental leave&quot;, &quot;individualism&quot;.The topics are selected by a set of keywords such as abortion, childfree, rest, no child and so on.</p> <p>Sentences from the collected sample were randomly selected for annotator marking. Each sentence was marked with three annotators. Since each sentence could discuss several issues, the annotator marked each sentence on all seven topics. The proposals were marked up mainly by professional demographers and linguists.</p>

Data for: Effect of heterospecific and conspecific competition on individual differences in tadpole behavior

<p>Repeated social interactions with conspecifics and/or heterospecifics during early development may drive the differentiation of behaviour among individuals. This behavioural differentiation may occur through individuals behaving more different from each other on average and/or individuals behaving more consistently. Competition is a major form of social interaction and its impacts can depend on whether interactions occur between conspecifics or heterospecifics and the directionality of a response could be specific to different behavioural traits. To test this, we reared tungara frog tadpoles (<em>Engystomops pustulosus</em>) either in isolation, with a conspecific tadpole or with an aggressive heterospecific tadpole, the whistling frog tadpole, <em>Leptodactylus fuscus</em>. In each treatment, we measured the body size, activity, exploration and risk taking in the presence of a predator in focal <em>E. pustulosus</em> tadpoles six times during development. We used univariate and multivariate hierarchical mixed effect models to investigate the effect of treatment on mean behaviour and on among individual variance between and within individuals across behavioural traits. There was a strong effect of competition on behaviour, with different population and individual level responses across social treatments. Within their home tank, individuals were more consistent in their movements under conspecific competition but heterospecific competition caused more variance in the average movement among individuals. Behavioural responses were also trait specific as conspecific competition caused greater variability in movements among individuals in a novel environment. The results highlight that the impact of competition on inter-individual differences in behaviour is dependent on competitor species identity and is trait specific. <p>Proteins are known to be social interaction signals in many species in the animal kingdom. The aim of this project is to explore the potential role of cuticular polar compounds in reproductive recognition on termites. Cuticular polar fractions were extracted from reproductives and workers. These extracts were used for molecular profiling, top-down proteomics and tested in behavioral bioassays to measure behavioral response in termite.</p>

<p>(This is the dataset used in <a href="https://doi.org/10.1101/2022.05.18.492501" rel="noopener" title="Dynamic Structure Of Motor Cortical Neuron Co-Activity Carries Behaviorally Relevant Information">Dynamic Structure Of Motor Cortical Neuron Co-Activity Carries Behaviorally Relevant Information</a>, Abstract below)</p> <p><span>Skillful, voluntary movements are underpinned by computations performed by networks of interconnected neurons in the primary motor cortex (M1). Computations are reflected by patterns of co-activity between neurons. Using pairwise spike time statistics, co-activity can be summarized as a functional network (FN). Here, we show that the structure of FNs constructed from an instructed-delay reach task in non-human primates are behaviorally specific: low dimensional embedding and graph alignment scores show that FNs constructed from closer target reach directions are also closer in network space. Using short intervals across a trial we constructed temporal FNs and found that temporal FNs traverse a low-dimensional subspace in a reach-specific trajectory. Alignment scores show that FNs become separable and correspondingly decodable shortly after the instruction cue. Finally, we observe that reciprocal connections in FNs transiently decrease following the instruction cue consistent with the hypothesis that information external to the recorded population temporarily alters the structure of the network at this moment.</span></p>

Reporting behavior from WHO COVID-19 public data

<p><strong>Objective</strong></p> <p>Daily COVID-19 data reported by the World Health Organization (WHO) may provide the basis for political ad hoc decisions including travel restrictions. Data reported by countries, however, is heterogeneous and metrics to evaluate its quality are scarce. In this work, we analyzed COVID-19 case counts provided by WHO and developed tools to evaluate country-specific reporting behaviors.</p> <p><strong>Methods</strong></p> <p>In this retrospective cross-sectional study, COVID-19 data reported daily to WHO from 3rd January 2020 until 14th June 2021 were analyzed. We proposed the concepts of binary reporting rate and relative reporting behavior and performed descriptive analyses for all countries with these metrics. We developed a score to evaluate the consistency of incidence and binary reporting rates. Further, we performed spectral clustering of the binary reporting rate and relative reporting behavior to identify salient patterns in these metrics.</p> <p><strong>Results</strong></p> <p>Our final analysis included 222 countries and regions. Reporting scores varied between -0.17, indicating discrepancies between incidence and binary reporting rate, and 1.0 suggesting high consistency of these two metrics. Median reporting score for all countries was 0.71 (IQR 0.55 to 0.87). Descriptive analyses of the binary reporting rate and relative reporting behavior showed constant reporting with a slight "weekend effect" for most countries, while spectral clustering demonstrated that some countries had even more complex reporting patterns.</p> <p><strong>Conclusion</strong></p> <p>The majority of countries reported COVID-19 cases when they did have cases to report. The identification of a slight "weekend effect" suggests that COVID-19 case counts reported in the middle of the week may represent the best data basis for political ad hoc decisions. A few countries, however, showed unusual or highly irregular reporting that might require more careful interpretation. Our score system and cluster analyses might be applied by epidemiologists advising policymakers to consider country-specific reporting behaviors in political ad hoc decisions.</p>

Data for: From individual behaviors to collective outcomes: fruiting body formation in Dictyostelium as a group-level phenotype

<p>Collective phenotypes, which arise from the interactions among individuals, can be important for the evolution of higher levels of biological organization. However, how a group's composition determines its collective phenotype remains poorly understood. When starved, cells of the social amoeba <em>Dictyostelium discoideum</em> cooperate to build a multicellular fruiting body, and the morphology of the fruiting body is likely advantageous to the surviving spores. We assessed how the number of strains, as well as their genetic and geographic relationships to one another, impact the group's morphology and productivity. We find that some strains consistently enhance or detract from the productivity of their groups, regardless of the identity of the other group members. We also detect extensive pairwise and higher-order genotype interactions, which collectively have a large influence on the group phenotype. Whereas previous work in <em>Dictyostelium</em> has focused almost exclusively on whether spore production is equitable when strains cooperate to form multicellular fruiting bodies, our results suggest a previously unrecognized impact of chimeric co-development on the group phenotype. Our results demonstrate how interactions among members of a group influence collective phenotypes and how group phenotypes might in turn impact selection on the individual.</p>
