The Why and What of AI Deployment and Innovation in Companies – Results and Learnings from a Systematic Literature Research
<p>These appendices are made available online as a critical part of the research paper accepted for publication at ISPIM 2024 in Tallinn on 10-12June 2024.</p> <p><strong>Abstract:</strong> Despite vast and growing investments in Artificial Intelligence, only a tiny fraction of companies report achieving tangible results. To fill this gap and establish a baseline for companies, we conducted Systematic Literature Research on the status of AI deployment in companies. We analyzed and synthesized 99 peer-reviewed articles for objectives, approaches, results, and learnings. This research confirms that AI is still at the pre-deployment stage in companies. Developing the capability to deploy AI is more challenging and takes more time, concerted effort, innovation, and learning than generally thought. Through the results and the conceptual framework, this research increases understanding of AI deployment and emphasizes the importance of the pre-deployment stages from theoretical and practical viewpoints. The Sensing stage of the dynamic capabilities theory aligns well with the developed pre-deployment stages. More real-life case research is needed, and existing theories verified to deploy AI knowledgeably for business and stakeholder benefits. </p>
Bibliometric and spatially georeferenced datasets of beach research in Mexico from 1993 to 2023
<p><span>These datasets resulted from a systematic review of published investigations on Mexican sandy beaches from 1993 to 2023. The literature search was performed on late December 2023 using three bibliographic repositories: Scopus, Web of Science and Redalyc. In the first dataset all records were standardized following the format of the Scopus database, including the following bibliographic metrics: authors, title, publication year, source, citations, authors' affiliations, and keywords. </span></p> <p><span>The second dataset includes the georeferenced beach location according to information provided in the articles listed in the first dataset. On this regard, the dataset includes the following fields: citation of the literature source; name of the beach as provided in the literature sources; latitude and longitude in grades, minutes and seconds using the geodetic datum WGS84; the research theme; and the research subtheme.</span></p>
washopenresearch: Dataset about open research data information in Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene
The goal of washopenresearch is to provide an overview of open research data related to Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH). The package provides access to two datasets `washdev` and `uncnewsletter`. Trends in research approaches and gender in plant ecology dissertations over four decades
<p>Dissertations are a foundational scientific product; they are the formative product that early-career scientists create and share original knowledge. Methodological approaches used in dissertations vary depending on the research field. In plant ecology, these approaches include observations, experiments (field or controlled-environment), literature reviews, theoretical approaches, or analyses of existing data (including 'big data'). This dataset was created to examine how the emphasis on each of these categories has changed over time, and whether male and female authors differ in the methods employed. The dissertations used for this study were gathered from the <em>Proquest Dissertations and Theses Global</em> (<a href="https://www.proquest.com/pqdtglobal)">https://www.proquest.com/pqdtglobal</a><a href="https://www.proquest.com/pqdtglobal)">)</a> database.</p>

Challenges and Realities in Asian Elephant Research: A Global Bibliometric Analysis Highlighting Conservation Crises and Collaborative Opportunities
<p><span>The Asian elephant (<em>Elephas maximus</em>), also known as Asiatic elephant is facing a significant decline in its wild populations due to habitat loss, fragmentation and degradation, leading to increased conflicts between humans and elephants. Preserving this iconic species is crucial, prompting researchers to explore various aspects of its biology, behavior, ecology, and conservation efforts. </span><span>In light of the profound importance of this subject</span><span>, this study utilizes a descriptive systematic literature review (SLR) to examine global research trends on Asian elephants. Analyzing a dataset of 1,780 articles spanning from 1914 to 2022, the study reveals a notable increase in publications, particularly since 2000, with 142 articles published in 2022 alone. This research provides a comprehensive overview of advancements in Asian elephant studies, promoting international collaboration and knowledge exchange among researchers. While research from leading scientific countries can aid in conservation efforts, there is a call for more inclusive, participatory and fair approaches. The study demonstrates a commitment to Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity (EID) by adopting a multifaceted approach that considers the needs, perspectives and contributions of diverse stakeholders. By addressing disparities and advocating for social justice within elephant conservation, the study emphasizes the urgent need for collective action in conservation, welfare improvement, conflict resolution, ecosystem balance, and overall enhancement of understanding about Asian elephants. Serving as a valuable resource for policymakers, conservation organizations, and researchers, the study not only synthesizes existing literature but also identifies research gaps, highlights areas requiring immediate attention, and offers collaborative opportunities for global scientists to contribute to the well-being and preservation of this majestic species.</span></p>
