DIC and DOC 13C tracer data from Shark River Slough and Harney River (FCE), Everglades, South Florida in November 2011

As part of the larger NSF WSC funded project, an SF6 tracer study was conducted in November of 2011 by working groups form ENP, FIU and Univ. of Hawaii. This work included the release of the tracer (SF6), which was sampled in a lagrangian approach as the tracer “patch” moved from the fresh water portion of the system to the mangrove ecotone along the Shark and Harney Rivers. The goal of this study was to measure carbon export through the system. Annie Palya used our new CRDS system to measure the isotopic composition (d13C) of the DOM & DIC (analyzed at RSMAS) during this study, as carbon isotopes may help to resolve different sources of carbon. This analytical approach is relatively new, and will be important for understanding the C-dynamics within the FCE.

Fall 2011 plant monitoring survey -- shoot height and flowering status of plants in permanent plots at GCE sampling sites 1-10

A quadrat survey was conducted in October 2011 to measure the species and size distribution of plants at 10 GCE LTER sampling sites. The quadrats were established as permanent plots at GCE sampling sites in October 2000 by placing wooden stakes at random locations across two nominal zones at each site, designated based on marsh structure (creekbank and high marsh). Several new plots were also added in October 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2009 and 2010 to replace those lost due to catastrophic wrack disturbance or creek bank erosion. The plots were visually surveyed and the species, shoot height, and flowering status was recorded individually for each shoot over 10 cm in height present in each plot. Observations from plots exhibiting signs of disturbance were noted in the data set with additional details recorded in GCE data set PLT-GCEM-1801. This survey will be repeated annually to assess changes in plant distribution and biomass in relation to environmental changes documented by other GCE LTER monitoring efforts.

Fall 2011 plant monitoring survey -- biomass calculated from shoot height and flowering status of plants in permanent plots at GCE sampling sites 1-10

The biomass of plants surveyed in permanent plots at 10 GCE LTER sampling sites in October 2011 was estimated based on allometric relationships between biomass and shoot height and flowering status derived for each site, zone, and species in October 2002 and October 2008. Biomass was only calculated for dominant species, including Spartina alterniflora, S. cynosuroides, Juncus roemerianus, and Zizaniopsis miliacea, as well as rarer species including Scirpus spp, Panicum spp. and Typha angustifolia. This data set is based on GCE plant monitoring survey data set PLT-GCEM-1112a, and allometric relationships were based on GCE data sets PLT-GCEM-0211b, PLT-GCEM-0711, and PLT-GCEM-2011.

Concentrations, turnover rates and fluxes of polyamines in coastal waters of the South Atlantic Bight during April and October 2011

Polyamines are short-chain aliphatic compounds containing multiple amine groups. They are important components of the cytosol of eukaryotes and are present at mmol/L concentrations inside phytoplankton cells, while complex polyamines play a role in biosilica deposition. Concentrations of polyamines measured in seawater are typically in the sub nmol/L range, implying rapid and efficient uptake by osmotrophs, likely bacterioplankton. We measured turnover rates of three polyamines (putrescine, spermidine and spermine) using 3H-labeled compounds and determined their concentrations by HPLC to estimate polyamine contributions to dissolved organic matter and bacterioplankton carbon and nitrogen demand. These measurements were made on transects from the inner shelf to the Gulf Stream across the South Atlantic Bight (SAB) during April and October of 2011 and in salt marsh estuaries on the Georgia coast during August of 2011 and April of 2012. This data set includes measurements of water column variables (temperature, salinity, biogenic Silica), nutrients (nitrite, nitrate+nitrite, ammonium and dissolved inorganic nitrogen), and concentrations and turnover rates of polyamine compounds.

Relative humidity has been measured at 15-minute intervals in two clearings throughout the Hubbard Brook experimental watersheds and at the Headquarters Station since 2011. Data were collected at two additional sites from 2011-2019. These data are gathered at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest in Woodstock, NH, which is operated and maintained by the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station.

Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest: Oak seedling demography, 2011 - ongoing

This data set was built from a larger data set of marked northern red oak seedlings surveyed from 2011-2023. In this data set, only seedlings marked in their year of germination with full environmental and seedlings measures were kept (N = 937). The data set was built for an accelerated failure time model of seedling survival that found year of germination, seedling density, shrub cover and elevation to have the largest effect on survival time. The status of the seedling acorn (attached or missing) was also important. These data were gathered as part of the Hubbard Brook Ecosystem Study (HBES). The HBES is a collaborative effort at the Hubbard Brook Experimental Forest, which is operated and maintained by the USDA Forest Service, Northern Research Station.

Soil water content measurements in plots with experimentally altered precipitation variability at the Jornada Basin LTER site, 2011-ongoing

This dataset contains soil moisture data from a study at the Jornada Experimental Range (JER) in southern New Mexico. The study was designed to assess the effect of interannual variability in precipitation on average aboveground net primary productivity (ANPP) in Chihuahuan Desert grasslands. The study began in 2009 and has five precipitation treatments (see Methods). While the study began in 2009, contains 50 plots (10 per treatment) and is ongoing, these data have only been collected since July 2011 in a subset of 20 plots (4 per treatment). This dataset is intended to provide information about the amount of water in surface and deep soil layers, as well as verify that experimental precipitation manipulations are effective. This is an ongoing dataset that will be updated yearly.

High-frequency, hourly, and daily measurements from Mount Fleming Meteorological Station (FLMM), McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica (2011-2025, ongoing)

As part of the McMurdo Dry Valleys Long-Term Ecological Research program, a spatially distributed, long-term climate monitoring network was established across the McMurdo Dry Valleys region of Antarctica, consisting of fourteen research-grade weather stations that continuously measure a standard suite of environmental parameters. Ecosystem processes in this region are strongly regulated by climatic drivers that exhibit high variability across both time and space, making accurate measurement of environmental variables at high temporal and spatial resolution essential to understanding the biophysical dynamics of this polar desert ecosystem. This data package includes measurements from the Mount Fleming Meteorological Station (FLMM), which was established in 2011 on top of Mount Fleming in Wright Valley, McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica. Parameters include air temperature, relative humidity, barometric pressure, and wind speed and direction. Data are provided at high frequency (typically 15-minute intervals), along with hourly and daily summaries. Users should note that summary statistics may be affected by periods of missing data. Since there is no universally accepted standard for handling gaps in time-series data, users are encouraged to work with the high-frequency data and establish their own criteria for acceptable data completeness to minimize any potential bias.

North Temperate Lakes LTER: Boat Traffic Through Yahara Locks 1976 - 2011

One of the dominant uses of the Madison area lakes is for boating. In order to develop a long term data set on the temporal fluctuations and trends in such activity, the LTER project has obtained records of boat traffic that passes through the locks at the head of the Yahara River on its stretch between Lake Mendota and Lake Monona. This data was gathered by the Dane County Department of Public Works as part of the County''s ongoing monitoring of its own facilities and their use. This data set will be augmented as the Department of Public Works makes updates available. Data is currently only available through 2011. SBC LTER: Ocean: Time-series: Mid-water SeaFET and CO2 system chemistry at Alegria (ALE), 2011-2014

Calibrated pH (Total scale, SeaFET sensor) data was collected from Alegria in the Santa Barbara Channel (site ID: ALE) along with in situ temperature and associated carbonate chemistry parameters. The SeaFET instrument is located about 4 meters from the surface, with other moored instruments. Associated carbonate chemistry parameters were calculated with the CO2calc programs from USGS, and include: partial pressure and fugosity of CO2, concentrations of bicarbonate, carbonate and hyrdroxide ion, Omega (saturation state) of calcite and aragonite. Data have been interpolated to a 20 minute time interval for compatibility with other SBC LTER moored instrument data. Data coverage is 2011-06-21 to 2014-01-07.The update of this dataset was terminated in 2019. SBC LTER: pH time series: Water-sample pH and CO2 system chemistry, ongoing since 2011

Data are a time-series of pH and carbonate chemistry in manually-collected sea water samples from sixteen near-shore locations and 20 locations along the Santa Barbara Channel, California, USA, and intended to benchmark data from moored pH instruments. Data collection began in June 2011 and is ongoing. Time-series for pH sensors deployed in the field (e.g., SeaFET) are available elsewhere. Discrete seawater samples were collected by hand or using a Niskin bottle. In the laboratory, samples were analyzed for pH (total scale) and total alkalinity. Two parameters were used to calculate the full suite of carbonate chemistry parameters using the CO2calc algorithms. Program outputs are included for laboratory conditions as input, and adjusted for situ temperature. See Methods for more information, e.g., Lunden, et al. Data were collected by a consortium of research groups with the intent to leverage their collective assets and expertise. These groups (and sponsors) include Santa Barbara Coastal LTER (NSF), OMEGAS Project (NSF), Passow Lab (Calif. State Water Board), Hofmann Lab (NSF, CINMS, US NPS).

SBC LTER: Beach: Time-series of beach wrack consumers, ongoing since 2011

These data contain the composition, count, and wet biomass of macroinvertebrates along intertidal transects at five selected sandy beaches of the mainland coast of the Santa Barbara Channel. Data collection began in 2012 and is ongoing. This dataset is updated annually. Macroinvertebrates were collected from uniformly spaced cores along the shore-normal transects also used for physical measurements and macrophyte wrack sampling. Cores were pooled and animals and organic material sieved. In the laboratory, all macroinvertebrate species were identified, enumerated, blotted dry and weighed.

Light profiles in the water column of coastal bays of Virginia 2011-2024

Measurements of light extinction were made from a small boat at designated stations. Measurements were taken above the water (AIR), 10 cm below the surface (SURFACE) and at depths from 25 cm (D_025cm) to 250 cm (D_250cm) below the surface. All light measurements were made with a Licor 4-pi quantum Photosynthetically Active Radiation (PAR) sensor LI-193 and a LI-1000 or LI-250a light meter. All light units are in microEinsteins (moles of photons) Calculations of the extinction coefficient (Kd) should NOT include air measurements.

Datasets and R-scripts used for the revision of the Dibrachys cavus complex by Peters & Baur, 2011, Zootaxa 2937.1

<p>In 2011 we published a revision on the Dibrachys cavus complex in Zootaxa (Peters and Baur, 2011, here a link to our <a href="https://doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.2937.1.1">open access paper</a>). It was our wish to also publish two versions of the dataset (one with missing values, one with missing values imputed) as supplementary files. Unfortunately, the data files seem to be no longer available on the publishers webpage. Hence, we publish the data files herewith again in CSV format.</p> <p>We take the opportunity to also publish the R-scripts that we used for calculating multivariate analyses, tests, and the multiple imputation of missing values.</p> <p>All files are available individually and with an own link. EXIOBASE HYBRID v3 - 2011

<p>The hybrid version of EXIOBASE, which is part of wider input-output database , is a multi-regional supply and use table. Here the term hybrid indicates that physical flows are accounted in mass units, energy flows in TJ and services in millions of euro (current prices).</p> <p><strong>EXIOBASE 3&nbsp;</strong>provides a time series of environmentally extended multi-regional input‐output (EE MRIO) tables ranging from 1995 to a recent year for 44 countries (28 EU member plus 16 major economies) and five rest of the world regions. EXIOBASE 3 builds upon the previous versions of EXIOBASE by using rectangular supply‐use tables (SUT) in a 163 industry by 200 products classification as the main building blocks.
