<p>Data release for Corrales, L., Gavilan, L., Teal, D. J., Kempton, E. M.-R., 2023, ApJL, in press</p> <p>Provides the optical constants from tholins grown in the laboratory (Gavilan et al. 2017, 2018) and computed cross-sections (Mie) for a wide range of particle sizes, for wavelengths of 0.13-10 micron. Python libraries and code for reproducing this work are provided. A static, refactored version of Exo_Transmit (Kempton et al. 2017, Teal et al. 2022, Corrales et al. 2023) is also provided for computing exoplanet transmission spectra with the new tholin species. </p> <p>See README file for a full list of contents and instructions for use.</p>
Acceptable loss: Fitness consequences of salinity-induced cell death in a halotolerant microalga
<p>Environmentally induced reductions in fitness components (survival, fecundity) are generally considered as passive, maladaptive responses to stress. However, there is also mounting evidence for active, programmed forms of environmentally induced cell death in unicellular organisms. While conceptual work has questioned how such programmed cell death (PCD) might be maintained by natural selection, few experimental studies have investigated how PCD influences genetic differences in longer-term fitness across environments. Here, we tracked the population dynamics of two closely related strains of the halotolerant microalga <em>Dunaliella salina</em>, following transfers across salinities. We showed that after a salinity rise, only one of these strains displayed a massive population decline (-69% in one hour), largely attenuated by exposure to a PCD inhibitor. However, this decline was followed by a rapid demographic rebound, characterized by faster growth than the non-declining strain, such that sharper decline was correlated with faster subsequent growth across experiments and conditions. Strikingly, the decline was more pronounced in conditions more favourable to growth (more light, more nutrients, less competition), further suggesting that it was not simply passive. We explored several hypotheses that could explain this decline-rebound pattern, which suggests that <span>successive stresses could select for </span>higher environmentally induced death in this system<span>.</span></p>

NNS-500 Acceptability judgment task dataset based on the sentences written by non-native English speakers
<p><strong>Acceptability judgment task (AJT):</strong> AJT is a common method in empirical linguistics to gather information about the internal grammar of speakers of a language, which is considered a promising area to evaluate neural language models' linguistic knowledge. There is a Corpus of Linguistic Acceptability (CoLA) whose creators think Boolean judgments sufficient; similarly, some non-English resources cast acceptability as a binary classification task.</p> <p><strong>Dataset:</strong> NNS-500 dataset based on the sentences written by non-native speakers (which is important from the point of view of the source of unacceptable sentences) and labelled by a university English teacher is intended for testing the pre-trained neural networks. It has 350 acceptable and 150 unacceptable sentences, which is 70% of acceptability (this compares to 69.2% in the CoLA out-of-domain set). The dataset markup includes standard data: id number, sentence, indication of acceptability – 1, indication of unacceptability – 0, type of error (morphology, syntax, semantics), and detailed information about the source (group number with the year of admission to the university, number according to list of the group members, and gender of the student). For the use of the assessment of EFL learners' linguistic competence, the first 100 sentences of the dataset (id 1‒100) include the ones written by the study group with a high level of academic performance (Group A) and another 100 sentences of the dataset (id 101‒200) are taken from the writing assignments of students with a poor academic performance (Group B). From each group of students, 5 people were selected (a total 10 participants); 20 sentences were randomly selected from each student's written work (14 ‒ unacceptable, 6 ‒ acceptable); there are more sentences with errors, since they are very important for the error analysis. The rest of the dataset consists of 290 acceptable and 10 unacceptable sentences (id 201‒500) taken from the works of students of different study groups of an intermediate level.</p>

Climate change is causing species with non-overlapping ranges to come in contact, and a key challenge is to predict the consequences of such species re-shuffling. Experiments on plants have focused largely on novel competitive interactions; other species interactions, such as plant-microbe symbioses, while less studied, may also influence plant responses to climate change. In this greenhouse study, we evaluated interactions between soil microbes and alpine-restricted plant species, simulating a warming scenario in which low elevation microbes migrate upslope into the distribution of alpine plants. We examined three alpine grasses from the Rocky Mountains, CO, USA (Poa alpina, Festuca brachyphylla, Elymus scribneri). We used soil inocula from within (resident) or below (novel) the plants' current elevation range and examined responses in plant biomass, plant traits, and fungal colonization of roots. Resident soil inocula from the species' home range decreased biomass to a greater extent than novel soil inocula. The depressed growth in resident soils suggested these soils harbor more carbon-demanding microbes, as plant biomass generally declined with greater fungal colonization of roots, especially in resident soil inocula. Although plant traits did not respond to the provenance of soil inocula, specific leaf area declined and root:shoot ratio increased when soil inocula were sterilized, indicating microbial mediation of plant trait expression. Contrary to current predictions, our findings suggest that if upwardly migrating microbes were to displace current soil microbes, alpine plants may benefit from this warming-induced microbial re-shuffling.

Customer acceptance on Mobile banking adoption in the Netherlands Questionnaire and Data
<p>The purpose of this study is to gain insights into significant decision factors that influence the adoption of mobile banking in the Netherlands. Gaining insights on factors affecting user adoption of mobile banking will help banks to formulate interventions to improve user acceptance. Especially now, with the Corona crisis, such initiatives in mobile technology are even more relevant for banking. The survey is completely anonymous, it consists of 20 different questions divided over sections A, B, C, and D which will take approximately 10 minutes to answer.</p>
Data from: "Discovery and characterization of 80 SNPs and 1,624 SSRs in the transcriptome of Atlantic mackerel (Scomber scombrus, L)" in Genomic Resources Notes Accepted 1 June 2015 to 31 July 2015
This paper reports on SNP discovery in the Atlantic mackerel transcriptome, using next generation sequencing technologies and applying developed methodology already proven successful for the European anchovy. A total of 9,966 high quality transcriptome contigs were assembled, from which 951 putative SNPs were discovered. In all, 479 putative SNPs and 1,624 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) suitable for genotyping were identified. A subset of 96 was selected for genotyping; from these, 80 SNPs were considered polymorphic and reliably scored after genotyping of 105 individuals from three locations in the Eastern Atlantic Ocean. These markers will be valuable for future studies on population genetic structure assessment and for product tracing.
