UAV-derived DEM and DOM along the co-seismic surface ruptures produced by the Mw5.7 aftershock during the 22-01-2024, Mw7.0 Wushi earthquake, Xinjiang, China

<p>This unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) dataset was acquired by a DJI Matrice 300 RTK and a DJI Phantom 4 Pro, on February 3 and 5, 2024, respectively. The Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and Digital Orthophoto Map (DOM) were processed using the Agisoft Metashape Professional software. These data were used to map the co-seismic surface ruptures produced by the 29-01-2024, Mw5.7 aftershock following the 22-01-2024 Mw7.0 Wushi mainshock, Xinjiang, China, and to measure the associated vertical offsets along the surface ruptures.</p>

Dataset for Figure 2 in 'Tales on co-response-ability in times of environmental polarization'

<p>This dataset contains part of the asnwers to surveys collecting feedback from participants in four participatory workshops within the project SharedDialogues (shareddialogues.org), focussed on exploring the environmnetal crisis of the Mar Menor lagoon (Murcia, Spain). It has been used for generating Figure 2 in the paper entitled 'Tales on co-response-ability in times of environmental polarization' published in the journal Ecology&amp;Society.&nbsp; Participants were asked to rate in a likert scale 1-5 to what extent they personally felt 'safe', 'listened by others', 'understood by others', 'confronted', and to what extent they felt the overall affective tonality of the workshop as 'respectful', 'collaborative', 'tense'. Answers were anonymous and number of participants participating and answering the survey varied from workshop to workshop. Inhibition of striatal dopamine release by the L-type calcium channel inhibitor isradipine co-varies with risk factors for Parkinson's

<h3><strong>ABSTRACT</strong></h3> <p>Ca<sup>2+</sup> entry into nigrostriatal dopamine (DA) neurons and axons via L-type voltage-gated Ca<sup>2+</sup> channels (LTCCs) contributes respectively to pacemaker activity and DA release, and has long been thought to contribute to vulnerability to degeneration in Parkinson&rsquo;s disease. LTCC function is greater in DA axons and neurons from substantia nigra pars compacta than from ventral tegmental area, but this is not explained by channel expression level. We tested the hypothesis that LTCC-control of DA release is governed rather by local mechanisms, focussing on candidate biological factors known to operate differently between types of DA neurons and/or be associated with their differing vulnerability to parkinsonism, including biological sex, &alpha;-synuclein, DA transporters (DATs), and calbindin-D28k (Calb1). We detected evoked DA release <em>ex vivo </em>in mouse striatal slices using fast-scan cyclic voltammetry, and assessed LTCC support of DA release by detecting the inhibition of DA release by the LTCC inhibitors isradipine or CP8. Using genetic knockouts or pharmacological manipulations we identified that striatal LTCC support of DA release depended on multiple intersecting factors, in a regionally and sexually divergent manner. LTCC function was promoted by factors associated with Parkinsonian risk, including male sex, &alpha;-synuclein, DAT, and a dorsolateral co-ordinate, but limited by factors associated with protection i.e. female sex, glucocerebrosidase activity, Calb1, and ventromedial co-ordinate. Sentiment analysis of tech media articles using VADER package and co-occurrence analysis during the COVID-19 pandemic (01.2020-06.2020)

VADER is specifically designed for social media analysis, but can be also applied for other text sources. The sentiment lexicon was compiled using various sources (other sentiment data sets, Twitter etc.) and was validated by human input. The advantage of VADER is that the rule-based engine includes word-order sensitive relations and degree modifiers.</p> <p>As VADER is more robust in the case of shorter social media texts, the analysed articles have been divided into paragraphs. The analysis have been carried out for the social issues presented in the co-occurrence exercise.</p> <p>The process included the following main steps:</p> <ul> <li>The 100 most frequently co-occurring terms are identified for every social issue (using the co-occurrence methodology)</li> <li>The articles containing the given social issue and co-occurring term are identified</li> <li>The identified articles are divided into paragraphs</li> <li>Social issue and co-occurring words are removed from the paragraph</li> <li>The VADER sentiment analysis is carried out for every identified and modified paragraph</li> <li>The average for the given word pair is calculated for the final result</li> </ul> <p>Therefore, the procedure has been repeated for 100 words for all identified social issues.</p> <p>The sentiment analysis resulted in a compound score for every paragraph. The score is calculated from the sum of the valence scores of each word in the paragraph, and normalised between the values -1 (most extreme negative) and +1 (most extreme positive). Finally, the average is calculated from the paragraph results. Removal of terms is meant to exclude sentiment of the co-occurring word itself, because the word may be misleading, e.g. when some technologies or companies attempt to solve a negative issue. The neighbourhood&#39;s scores would be positive, but the negative term would bring the paragraph&#39;s score down.</p> <p>The analysed paragraphs are selected the following way:</p> <ul> <li>The articles containing the given social issue are identified</li> <li>The paragraphs containing the social issue are selected for sentiment analysis</li> </ul> <p>*Hutto, C.J. &amp; Gilbert, E.E. Forests 2022, 13, 440. doi: 10.3390/f13030440.</p> <p>&nbsp;</p> <p><strong>Summary:</strong></p> <p>Global change is affecting species areal distribution in many regions. A better understanding of how land-use change and climate warming affects shrub growth is essential for improved predictions of forest dynamics at the alpine treeline. Evaluation of radial stem growth of the clonal shrub <em>Alnus alnobetula</em> (= <em>Alnus viridis</em>) and the co-occurring tree species Swiss stone pine (<em>Pinus cembra</em>) within an alpine treeline ecotone revealed that mean ring width of nitrogen fixing <em>A. alnobetula</em> was about four times lower compared to <em>P. cembra</em>. Our findings are based on ring width data from <em>A. alnobetula</em> and <em>P. cembra</em> stems sampled at the alpine treeline ecotone on Mt. Patscherkofel (47&deg;12&rsquo;N, 11&deg;27&rsquo;E, Central European Alps, Austria, elevation range 2050 to 2190 m asl). Ring width time series include 86 radii from 51 stems of <em>A. alnobetula</em> (stems had mean age of 18&plusmn;7 yrs) and 24 radii from 16 stems of <em>P. cembra </em>(18&plusmn;4 yrs). We explain our findings by different carbon allocation strategies, i.e., preference of &ldquo;vertical&rdquo; stem growth in late successional <em>P. cembra</em> vs. favoring &ldquo;horizontal&rdquo; spread in the pioneer shrub<em> A. alnobetula.</em> By favouring clonal propagation over individual stem growth <em>A. alnobetula</em> is able to quickly spread at the alpine treeline ecotone.</p>

A meteorology and snow dataset from adjacent forested and meadow sites at Crested Butte, CO, USA

<p>This dataset contains meteorology and snow observation data collected at sites in the southwestern Colorado Rocky Mountains during water years 2019-2021. Data collection had&nbsp;an emphasis on paired open-forest sites and included three forested elevations. In total, we present 270 snow pit observations, 4,019&nbsp;snow depth measurements, and three years of meteorological forcing from two weather stations (one in a meadow, the other in an adjacent forest). The dataset is described in a forthcoming&nbsp;publication of the same name:&nbsp;<em>A meteorology and snow dataset from adjacent forested and meadow sites at Crested Butte, CO, USA</em> (Bonner et al., 2022).</p> <p>All snow observation and meteorological forcing data are available as both .nc&nbsp;and .mat files.<br> Additionally, original digitized copies of snow pit observations are provided as .gsheet/.xlxs&nbsp;files.</p> <p>This dataset will continue to be updated, via this repository, as additional years of data are collected.</p>
