Associations of self-compassion with shame, guilt, and training motivation after sport-specific daily stress – a smartphone study
<p>By applying a diary study design, we investigated the role of selfcompassion during sport-specific daily stress (SSDS) with regard to the negative self-conscious emotions of shame and guilt and training motivation. We hypothesised that self-compassion would protect athletes from certain self-conscious emotions, namely shame, after SSDS. We also predicted that self-compassion would either increase or decrease the relationship between stress and motivation. Ninety-six athletes (Mage = 22.14, SD = 5.92) reported their level of self-compassion and evaluated their trainings and/or competitions over three weeks in terms of experienced stress, guilt, shame and subsequent training motivation on their smartphones. Multilevel analyses showed that SSDS was associated with more negative self-conscious emotions and reduced training motivation. Moreover, self-compassion weakened the effect of SSDS on shame and was not correlated with training motivation. We discuss the results with regard to sport psychology practice and future research.</p>

Antique Military Compass (USAF WW2 Era)
A compass is an instrument used for navigation and orientation that shows direction relative to the geographic cardinal directions (or points). Usually, a diagram called a compass rose shows the directions north, south, east, and west on the compass face as abbreviated initials. When the compass is used, the rose can be aligned with the corresponding geographic directions; for example, the "N" mark on the rose points northward. Compasses often display markings for angles in degrees in addition to (or sometimes instead of) the rose. North corresponds to 0°, and the angles increase clockwise, so east is 90° degrees, south is 180°, and west is 270°. These numbers allow the compass to show magnetic North azimuths or true North azimuths or bearings, which are commonly stated in this notation. If magnetic declination between the magnetic North and true North at latitude angle and longitude angle is known, then direction of magnetic North also gives direction of true North. Data from study on Self-compassion in the Field of Addiction
<p><strong><span>Abstract</span></strong></p> <p><strong><span>Objective</span></strong><span>: This study investigates the role of self-compassion in individuals with substance use disorders, focusing on its associations with emotion regulation difficulties, depression, anxiety, stress, and thought suppression.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Method</span></strong><span>: The study included 150 participants, aged 30-71 years, of Greek ethnicity enrolled in a rehabilitation program at the Organization Against Drugs (OKANA). Participants completed four self-report measures: the Self-Compassion Scale, the Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale, the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale and the White Bear Suppression Inventory. Data were collected between October 2023 and January 2024.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Results</span></strong><span>: Self-compassion was negatively correlated with difficulties in emotion regulation (r = −.552, p < .05), depression, anxiety, and stress (r = −.530, p < .05), and thought suppression (r = −.428, p < .05). Stepwise regression analysis revealed that self-compassion significantly predicted lower levels of psychological distress (</span><span>β</span><span> = −.230, p < .001) and mediated the relationship between difficulties in emotion regulation and psychological distress. The final model explained 45.2% of the variance in depression, anxiety, and stress (95% CI [0.35, 0.55]). Bootstrap analysis (1,000 samples) confirmed the robustness of these results.</span></p> <p><strong><span>Conclusions</span></strong><span>: The findings suggest that self-compassion may serve as a protective factor in managing psychological distress among individuals with substance use disorders. Incorporating self-compassion-focused interventions into addiction recovery programs may enhance emotional resilience and reduce the use of maladaptive coping strategies.</span></p>
