Wildland-Urban Interface maps for the Polish Carpathians for 1860s, 1970s and 2013

<p>The dataset contains three (1860s, 1970s, 2013) detailed&nbsp;Wildland-Urban Interface (WUI)&nbsp;maps of the Polish Carpathians, including information on building density. The maps, available in the form of 10m raster GeoTIFF files,&nbsp;are based on&nbsp;the WUI definition of US Federal Register&nbsp;(USDA and USDI, 2001) as operationalized by&nbsp;(Radeloff et al., 2005), which distinguishes two kinds of WUI: intermix, where housing intermingle with wildland vegetation, and interface, where settlement abuts the wildland areas. Either WUI type requires a housing density higher than 6.17 houses/km2 (1 house/40 acres in the US context). In intermix WUI, there has to be also &gt; 50% wildland vegetation, while the interface WUI, has &lt; 50% wildland vegetation but is within 2.4 km of a wildland vegetation patch larger &gt; 5 km2. Given the ecological context of the Polish Carpathians, we defined wildland vegetation as forests, because forests are the climax vegetation type below the treeline. To assess settlements, we analysed all buildings locations (residential and non-residential), because all buildings reflect human activities. The building density and forest cover share were calculated by using a 500m circular moving window algorithm.</p><p>Acknowledgements<br>The study was supported by the National Science Centre, Poland, contract no. Automated Insights Dataset (AID) and User Interface Depth Dataset (UID)

<p>The Automated Insights Dataset (AID) brings metadata from the 200 most downloaded free apps from each of the 32 categories on the Google Play Store, totaling 6400 apps, with information that goes beyond that presented by app stores, also bringing metadata from AppBrain. The User Interface Depth Dataset (UID) brings a high-quality sampling of the AID, and delves into the identification of 7540 components of 50 component types and the capture of 1948 screenshots of the interface of 400 apps. The component set was based on components of Google Material Design and Android Studio.</p> <ul> <li>The datasets can be viewed in the spreadsheets named "Automated Insights Dataset (AID).xlsx" and "User Interface Depth Dataset (UID).xlsx".</li> <li>The "UID - Screenshots.zip" file contains screenshots of the apps present in the UID, organized in folders by app IDs.</li> <li>The "Source code of the developed tools.zip" file contains Python codes and complementary files used to collect the datasets.</li> <li>The "Discarded apps.zip" file contains the apps discarded in the analysis, it presents screenshots of some apps, collected elements and the reasons that led to these apps being discarded.</li> <li>The "Data explanation.zip" file contains graphical representations of the UID components and textual representations of each data present in the UID and AID, allowing a better understanding of the criteria used.</li> </ul>

Hyperscanning brain-computer interface based on synchronous and asynchronous interindividual SSVEP signals

<div> <p>Here we provide hyperscanning EEG (electroencephalogram) data recorded during BCI (brain-computer interface) control. The BCI was intended for the decoding of brain synchrony during visual stimulation, specifically the stimuli flickered at two different fequencies.<br>Each of seven pairs of participants performed more than 100 trials, which included 5s visual stimulation of synchronous or asynchronous flicker. <p>Raw data for Journal article: "Nanogels with tailored hydrophobicity and their behavior at air/water interfaces"</p> <p>Abstract:</p> <p>The interfacial behavior of micro-/nanogels is governed to a large extent by the hydrophobicity of their polymeric network. Prevailing studies to examine this influence mostly rely on external stimuli like temperature or pH to modulate the colloidal hydrophobicity. Here, a sudden transition between hydrophilic and hydrophobic state prevents systematic and gradual modulation of hydrophobicity. This limits important correlations between interfacial behavior and quantitative physicochemical measures for network hydrophobicity. To address this challenge, we introduce a nanogel platform that allows accurate tuning of hydrophobicity on a molecular level. For this, via post-functionalization of active ester-based particles, we prepare poly(N-(2-hydroxypropyl)methacrylamide) (PHPMA) nanogels as a hydrophilic benchmark and introduce gradually varied amounts of hydrophobic propyl or dodecyl moieties to increase the nanogel hydrophobicity. We study the deformation and arrangement of these particles at an air/water interface and correlate the results with quantitative measures for nanogel hydrophobicity. We observe that increasing hydrophobicity of nanogels, either by increasing the hydrophobic moiety ratio or the alkyl chain length, leads to decreased particle deformability and aggregation of an interfacially-adsorbed monolayer. Contrary to what may be intuitively assumed, these changes are not gradual, but rather occur suddenly above a threshold in hydrophobicity. Our study further shows that the effect of hydrophobicity affects the nanogel properties differently in bulk and when adsorbed at liquid interfaces. Thus, this study establishes the transition of interfacial behavior between soft gel-like particles to a solid spherical morphology triggered by the increase in hydrophobicity.</p>

UIS Log: Synthetic User Interface with Screenshots Log

<p>These data correspond to the set of problems for evaluating the proposal detailed in Mart&iacute;nez-Rojas et al. 2022.&nbsp;The evaluation utilizes a set of synthetic problems that simulate realistic administrative use cases. Each problem includes a UI Log with a synthetic screenshot corresponding to each event, capturing 3 distinct processes (<em>P</em>) marked by varying complexity levels. These levels are defined by the number of activities, the process execution variants, and the visual features influencing decisions between these variants.</p> <p>The implementation of this proposal can be found in the tool available at&nbsp;<a href="https://github.com/RPA-US/screenrpa" target="_new">this GitHub repository</a>, which utilizes the logs of these 3 processes for validation. Here they are described:<br><br></p> <ul> <li><em>P1 Client creation</em>. A process with&nbsp;<strong>5 activities and 2 variants</strong>. The single decision in this process is made based on the existence of an attachment in the reception email.</li> <li><em>P2 Client validation</em>. A process with&nbsp;<strong>7 activities and 2 variants</strong>. The decision is made based on the user&rsquo;s response to a query.</li> <li><em>P3 Client deletion</em>. A process with&nbsp;<strong>7 activities and 4 variants</strong>. The decisions are made based on two conditions: (1) the existence of pending invoices and (2) the existence of an attachment to justify the payment of the invoices.</li> </ul> <p>These processes all contain a single decision point, although the one in P3 is complex. All processes include</p> <ol> <li>synthetic screen captures for their activities and</li> <li>a sample event log with a single instance for each variant.</li> </ol> <p>To generate the objects for the valuation, we generate event logs of different sizes (|<em>L</em>|) for each of these processes by deriving events from the sample event log. We consider log sizes in the range of {10, 25, 50, 100} events. Note that we consider complete instances in the log and thus, we remove the last instance if it goes beyond |<em>L</em>|.<br>Some of these logs are generated with a balanced number of instances, while others are unbalanced (<em>B</em>?) which present more than 20% of different frequency between the most frequent and less frequent variants. To average the result over a collection of problems, 30 instances are randomly generated for each tuple &lt;&nbsp;<em>P</em>, |<em>L</em>|,&nbsp;<em>B</em>? &gt;.<br>In this dataset there are 3 zips, one for each family. Each family corresponds to a process:</p> <ul> <li><em>Basic </em>corresponds to P1</li> <li><em>Intermediate </em>corresponds to P12</li> <li><em>Advanced </em>corresponds to P3</li> </ul> <p>Within these folders, we find 30 different scenarios (folder), in which the look and feel of the applications present in the screenshots have suffered little variations. Within each of these scenarios, variations are carried out respecting to the data entered in the forms and the images or attachments present in the user interface to generate log instances depending on the characteristics of each process.<br>For each scenario, we find 8 folders with the concrete problem which is defined by Log_size (in {10,25,50,100}) and Balanced (in {Balanced, Unbalanced}). Cryo 4D-STEM Data Set: isotactic Polypropylene/ Ethylene-Octene Copolymer Interface

<p><strong>Sample:</strong> Data is taken of a iPP/EO (DOW ENGAGE<sup>TM</sup> 8540) blend interface. The blend was cryo-microtomed to a nominal slice thickness of 50nm. Transmission electron microscopy was performed using the TEAM I microscope at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory using a Gatan K3 detector and Continuum spectrometer.</p> <p><strong>Data Set 12: </strong>This work was performed at -185&deg;C under liquid nitrogen cooling with a 300kV accelerating voltage and a semi-convergence angle of 0.5mrad which yielded a diffraction-limited probe with a full-width half-max of 2nm. The beam was rastered with a step size of 5nm&nbsp;over a 505 &times; 500nm<sup>2</sup> field of view. The electron dose per sample area over the entire scan is 20 e<sup>-</sup>/&Aring;<sup>2</sup>. However, 4D-STEM is a converged probe technique in which ~80% of the beam fluence is contained within 1.74 &times; the FWHM of the probe. Using 1.74 &times; the FWHM of the probe as the diameter to calculate the irradiated sample area yields a dose of 60 e<sup>-</sup>/&Aring;<sup>2</sup> for this data set. &nbsp;Gold nanoparticles were used to calibrate the reciprocal space pixel size as well as measure the elliptical distortion present in the data set.</p> <p><strong>Data Set 18: </strong>This data was taken at -185&deg;C under liquid nitrogen cooling with a 300kV accelerating voltage and a semi-convergence angle of 0.14mrad which yielded a diffraction-limited probe with a full-width half-max of 10nm. The beam was rastered with a step size of 10nm over a 1.4 &times; 1.4&mu;m<sup>2</sup> field of view. The electron dose per sample area over the entire scan was 0.50 e-/&Aring;<sup>2</sup> while the dose per probe area was 0.64 e-/&Aring;<sup>2</sup>. Gold nanoparticles were used to calibrate the reciprocal space pixel size.</p> <p><strong>Data Set 19: </strong>This data was taken over the exact same area as Data Set 18 to give a comparison under larger dose accumulation. The data was obtained with the exact same parameters and under the same experimental conditions as Data Set 18.</p>

Simulation Files for Organic Contaminants and Atmospheric Nitrogen at the Graphene–Water Interface

<p>This data set provides files needed to run the simulations described in the manuscript entitled &quot;Organic contaminants and atmospheric nitrogen at the graphene&ndash;water interface: A simulation study&quot; using the molecular dynamics software NAMD and LAMMPS. The output of the simulations, as well as scripts used to analyze this output, are also included. The files are organized into directories corresponding to the figures of the main text and supplementary information. They include molecular model structure files (NAMD psf), force field parameter files (in CHARMM format), initial atomic coordinates (pdb format), NAMD or LAMMPS configuration files, Colvars configuration files, NAMD log files, and NAMD output including restart files (in binary NAMD format) and some trajectories in dcd format (downsampled). Analysis is controlled by shell scripts (Bash-compatible) that call VMD Tcl scripts. A modified LAMMPS C++ source file is also included.</p>

Edge effects and vertical stratification of aerial insectivorous bats across the interface of primary-secondary Amazonian rainforest

<p><span>Edge effects - abiotic and biotic changes associated with habitat boundaries - are key drivers of community change in fragmented landscapes. Their influence is heavily modulated by matrix composition. With over half of the world's tropical forests predicted to become forest edge by the end of the </span><span>century, it is paramount that conservationists gain a better understanding of how tropical biota is impacted by edge gradients. Bats comprise a large fraction of tropical mammalian fauna and are demonstrably sensitive to habitat modification. Yet, </span><span>knowledge about how bat assemblages are affected by edge effects remains scarce</span><span>. Capitalizing on a whole-ecosystem manipulation in the Central Amazon, the aims of this study were to i) assess the consequences of edge effects for twelve aerial insectivorous bat species across the interface of primary and secondary forest and ii) investigate if the activity levels of these species differed between the understory and canopy and if they were modulated by distance from the edge</span><span>. Acoustic surveys were conducted along four 2-km transects each traversing equal parts of primary and ca. 30-year-old secondary forest. Five models were used to assess the changes in the relative activity of forest specialists (three species), flexible forest foragers (three species), and edge foragers (six species). Modelling results revealed no evidence of edge effects, except for forest specialists in the understory. No significant differences in activity were found between the secondary or primary forest but most species exhibited pronounced vertical stratification. Our study highlights that forest specialist bats are more edge-sensitive than both flexible forest and edge foraging bats and suggests that the influence of edge effects on aerial insectivorous bats may exceed 2 km. The absence of pronounced edge effects and the comparable activity levels between primary and old secondary forests indicates that old secondary forest can help ameliorate the consequences of fragmentation on tropical aerial insectivorous bats.  </span></p>
