''This 'Top Camp' was on a flat-topped, open, grassy rise at the lower end of the first of two closely adjacent, deep, alpine lakes encountered on the climb toward Mt. Wilhelm summit'' (Brass, 1964: 185). ''A considerable amount of fragmented, heavily mossed, low, subalpine forest occurred on slopes in the vicinity of camp, diminishing rapidly up to tree limit at 13,100 to 13,200 feet [3970 to 4000 m], and increasing downward until it almost completely covered the slopes of the U Valley'' (Brass, 1964: 187). The highest record on Mt. Wilhelm for Coccymys shawmayeri is near this ''Top Camp'' (see gazetteer). June 8– 29, 1959.
