Ashleypark Co. Tipperary Neolithic Burial Mound
National Monument No. 573. A megalithic burial chamber known as a Linkardstown-Type Cist was exposed in a large burial mound (SMR No. TN015-009----) encircled by two low wide banks with internal ditches giving an overall diameter of 90m. The structure was uncovered during bulldozing operations in 1980 after which the site was excavated in 1985 by state archaeologist, Con Manning. The core of the mound measuring c. 20m in diameter consists of a cairn with a covering of clay. The skeletal remains of an adult male and a child were found here along with a variety of animal bones, a bone point, some chert flakes and Neolithic pottery, including sherds bearing channelled decoration. Radiocarbon dating indicates a calendar date of c.3,350 BC for the burial in the chamber. The prehistoric site is on private land and there is no access to the monument without the landowner's permission. Neolithic rimsherd from 3.400 BC
Rimsherd form a Neolithic vessel, dated to 3.400 BC. Found at the causewayed-enclosures at Sarup, Funen, Denmark. Decorated with zigzag-band filled with stamps in different cord-impressions and with the rim of a cardium-mussel, between 2 og 4. When turning the sherd it can be possible to se the cord in positive! Neolithic Troldebjergbowl from 3.200 BC
Bowl of type Troldebjerg, originally 26 cm wide at rim. Decorated with the caracteristic vertical band embellished with stamp impression, placed alternately on opposite side, like a zip fastener. The zipperband flanked on each side by vertical bands which are hatched. The fragment is 23x17 cm in dimension. The bowl found on the causewayed-enclosure Sarup II on Funen, Denmark. Early Neolithic Stone Houses, Khatm Al Melaha, Kalba, Sharjah Khatm Al Melaha is a facinating archaeological site with Late Paleolithic to Early Neolithic features including an extensive ridge of rock art, shell middens, and stone houses remains that are featured in this model. The site is located near the Oman Sea on the coast of Sharjah, near the commuity of Kalba. 3D model was made using 1266 drone and terrestrial images in Reality Capture software. Neolithic burial reconstruction, Grantez, Jersey
A Neolithic burial reconstruction within the side chamber at Grantez dolmen, St Ouen, Jersey. In 1912, 8 adult skeletons and one child were excavated from inside this dolmen. They were found with deposits of limpet shells, ox, horse, pig and goat bones, speckled feldsite pebbles and quartz pebbles. Some saucer, bowls and vase supports in a red gritty ware were also found here. This reconstruction has been made with an adult female skeleton. The grave goods are limpet shells, quartz pebbles, animal bones, and jewellery and beads made from natural materials like shells and seeds. <p>The repository contains radiocarbon data and code for the paper "Population dynamics and socio-ecological trajectories explain the emergence of farming in Late Neolithic South-eastern Norway", published in the Journal of Neolithic Archaeology.</p> <p><a href="https://www.jna.uni-kiel.de/index.php/jna/article/view/1562">Population Dynamics and Socio-ecological Trajectories Explain the Emergence of Farming in Late Neolithic Southeast Norway | Journal of Neolithic Archaeology</a>.</p> <p><strong>Abstract</strong></p> <p>This paper examines the emergence of farming in Late Neolithic Southeast Norway. A summed probability distribution of radiocarbon dates is used to infer population dynamics and together with a chronological model using dated samples from post-built houses, cultivation layers and cereal grains, it is argued that the introduction of farming was swift and caused by incoming farmers. It is further explored how a low population during the Middle Neolithic period, cause by shifting environmental conditions, was central to the rapid population shift and economic change seen in the Late Neolithic, from ca. 2200 cal BC. </p>
