Prenylcysteine Oxidase 1 (PCYOX1), a New Player in Thrombosis
<p>This record contains raw data related to the article "Prenylcysteine Oxidase 1 (PCYOX1), a New Player in Thrombosis"</p> <p>Abstract: Prenylcysteine Oxidase 1 (PCYOX1) is an enzyme involved in the degradation of prenylated<br> proteins. It is expressed in different tissues including vascular and blood cells. We recently<br> showed that the secretome from Pcyox1-silenced cells reduced platelet adhesion both to fibrinogen<br> and endothelial cells, suggesting a potential contribution of PCYOX1 into thrombus formation. Here,<br> we show that in vivo thrombus formation after FeCl3 injury of the carotid artery was delayed in<br> Pcyox1/ mice, which were also protected from collagen/epinephrine induced thromboembolism.<br> The Pcyox1/ mice displayed normal blood cells count, vascular procoagulant activity and plasma<br> fibrinogen levels. Deletion of Pcyox1 reduced the platelet/leukocyte aggregates in whole blood, as<br> well as the platelet aggregation, the alpha granules release, and the IIb3 integrin activation in<br> platelet-rich plasma, in response to adenosine diphosphate (ADP) or thrombin receptor agonist peptide<br> (TRAP).Washed platelets from the Pcyox1/ and WT animals showed similar phosphorylation<br> pathway activation, adhesion ability and aggregation. The presence of Pcyox1/ plasma impaired<br> agonist-induced WT platelet aggregation. Our findings show that the absence of PCYOX1 results<br> in platelet hypo-reactivity and impaired arterial thrombosis, and indicates that PCYOX1 could be a<br> novel target for antithrombotic drugs.</p>

A New Dataset for Spatial, Temporal and Tactical Analysis of Female Handball Player Movements
<p>This repository presents a comprehensive dataset detailing the precise indoor positioning of players from a female amateur handball team across 10 real matches. Utilising Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technology, the dataset captures each player's x and y coordinates every second throughout the games. A preliminary game analysis is included, specifying the initiation and termination times of each team's possession. This analysis provides a variety of labels crucial for training machine learning algorithms, encompassing distinctions such as attack or defense, structured or unstructured play, goal outcomes, and the differentiation between counter-attacks and static phases. The dataset comprises 84691 positioning measurements, offering a valuable resource for in-depth study and analysis of player dynamics and game strategies in female handball.</p>

Data from: Trait compensation and sex-specific aging of performance in male and female professional basketball players
Phenotypic traits are often influenced by dynamic resource allocation trade-offs which, when occurring over the course of individual lifespans, may manifest as trait aging. Although aging is studied for a variety of traits that are closely tied to reproduction or reproductive effort, the aging of multiple traits related to fitness in other ways are less well understood. We took advantage of almost 30 years of data on human whole-organism performance in the National Basketball Association (U.S.A.) to examine trends of aging in performance traits associated with scoring. Given that patterns of aging differ between sexes in other animal species, we also analysed a smaller dataset on players in the Women's National Basketball Association to test for potential sex differences in the aging of comparable traits. We tested the hypothesis that age-related changes in a specific aspect of overall performance can be compensated for by elevated expression of another, related aspect. Our analyses suggest that the aging of performance traits used in basketball is generally characterised by senescence in males, whereas age-related changes in basketball performance are less evident in females. Our data also indicate a different rate of senescence of different performance traits associated with scoring over a male's lifetime.
Dataset related to:"Prenylcysteine oxidase 1, an emerging player in atherosclerosis "
<p>This record contains raw data related to the article " Prenylcysteine oxidase 1, an emerging player in atherosclerosis"</p> <p>Abstract</p> <p>The research into the pathophysiology of atherosclerosis has considerably increased our understanding of the disease complexity, but still many questions remain unanswered, both mechanistically and pharmacologically.</p> <p>Here, we provided evidence that the pro-oxidant enzyme Prenylcysteine Oxidase 1 (PCYOX1), in the human atherosclerotic lesions, is both synthesized locally and transported within the subintimal space by proatherogenic lipoproteins accumulating in the arterial wall during atherogenesis. Further, Pcyox1 deficiency in Apoe-/- mice retards atheroprogression, is associated with decreased features of lesion vulnerability and lower levels of lipid peroxidation, reduces plasma lipid levels and inflammation. PCYOX1 silencing <em>in vitro </em>affects the cellular proteome by influencing multiple functions related to inflammation, oxidative stress, and platelet adhesion.</p> <p>Collectively, these findings identify the pro-oxidant enzyme PCYOX1 as an emerging player in atherogenesis and, therefore, understanding the biology and mechanisms of all functions of this unique enzyme is likely to provide additional therapeutic opportunities in addressing atherosclerosis.</p>
